Man, seen this on the ESPN ticker could not

believe it. As said earlier, his knees

must be shot, the young guys can contribute

on ST's and Trotter can't take the

pounding. Its a shame the guy was a true

Eagle and will always be remembered as one

of the true warriors that we were able to

root for. Good luck Trot, thanks for the

effort.

Fagel-

The worst part is, my theory of "rootin for the laundry" is bitin me in the ass today cos im actually upset that this cat's done.

He was the only guy where i didnt strictly root for the laundry. I won't even feel like this when 20 goes.

Ugh.

Root for the Laundry my eye. Im goin to miss hearin Dan Baker on Sunday's-

"The stop made for no gain-
tackle made by number FIFTY FOUR....
Jeremiah
TRRRROTTER!"

I think I'd feel worse if I felt like he was getting jobbed.

Based on how everything went down (they didn't dance on his grave for PR purposes like they normally do) and th fact that it had nothing to do with money makes it easier to deal with.

Trotter couldn't play forever and this just happens to be the end of the road. To me this isn't as sad as when they run a player out of down and trash him on the way out the door.

It is shocking. I never imagined he'd get cut. But Seth, weren't you talking about him being 2 yrs past retirement. I didn't read the thread, but yeah, I thought he was just hanging around.

That said, I'm stunned they let him go. I kinda like the no nonsense attitude though

Seriously, no matter the name, these pricks aren't kidding around anymore. That's all I'm saying.

Trotter was past his prime and the fact they pulled the trigger...IDK, this is different than others being kicked out the door. I can see this one, but I'm still surprised.

Shock is a good term.

True, but is TKO gonna play MLB? That's what I read up top. If that's the case, eventhough he's not ever played it before, what's to make us think he can't?

That dudes a stud.

spuds has said flat-out that Gaither is the MLB and TKO stays on the weakside. Gaither was interviewed today as the starting MLB, too.

i consider myself to be primarily a 'root for the laundry" type fan, but i will most assuredly miss this guy. i always felt he was a great intermediary between the fans and the players, as he was loved and respected by both, and gave it back in equal measure.

one of my favorite all-time philly sport quotes, by trotter, years ago in his first go round with the eagles:

"As God as my witness, I will hold down the middle"

I would have wanted to see Trotter retire with the Eagles. The cut sucks.

I hope he finds happiness going forward.

Yeah, I heard this on ESPN radio around 6:30AM PST (9:30 Eastern) on my way into work, and I think I had the same problem Seth had logging in today. Reported on the radio that he was offered the choice of retiring or being cut, Trotter asked to be cut.

This is bringing up that story from earlier about Reid telling Trotter "Do I have to get Gaither in here?" If that's the case, I think Jay and Silent Bob are going to have a new sidekick, BluntHolder.

I'm gonna miss ol' Trot. My last memory of him was at training camp when Seth and I watched him dive over the top of the line to pull down Kolb. I'm still shocked they actually cut the guy.

EaglefanOK- I likely said that, and Ive acknowledged before how he was in jeopardy to make the 2007 roster, back in the winter after the seemingly endless "Trotters knees are shot" talk on the EMB, from 2006 recap articles, to JJ's own quotes.

But he slimmed down some, and the talk changed to him being a situational LB and I was fine with that.

I dunno, ive calmed down a little in that if history serves- this is why the Eagles under this regime have remained extremely competitive- they will replace you if you cant do your job as before, regardless who you are (ask almost equally popular guys like Hugh, Duce, Vincent for example) and they were right on all those too.

Just sucks is all. I think that the LBs in camp (Gaither and Bradley which I was surprised to read) were doing very well @ MLB. I just thought they were deep.

Now we'll see how deep, cos its the Gaither show in the middle.
Im more than fine with him in coverage, as opposed to "Fi-Fo", but lets see him stuff the run even half as well.
Im sure he'll be better on the stretch plays that Indy worked to death vs Philly last yr, sideline to sideline- I mean, lets see him bust in the gap and knock a center or guard on his ass and stand up the runner.

Good luck.

Ugh.

"These are the days I envy those who just "root for the laundry". Those guys who aren't "attached" to certain players. "

i am one of those laundry guys, but today still sucks. i hoped trotter, dawk and kearse could have stayed together this yr to help win it all, and get rings for themselves. obviously, trott wont be here if it happens.

one thing about reid, like it or not, he will NOT let this team get old together at the same time..which is one reason i've always rooted for the laundry, especially since FA started.

( yes, i have favorite players, juqua, omar and bwest, but there will be new favorites in the yrs to come. maybe celek, hunt and kolb, who knows )

as i said, like it or not, their philosophy since reid got here has been continuing success and staying youthful, not getting old to gear up for just one yr.

This stinks.

I'd feel better if I knew that Trotter knew this was coming for a while. Or if I knew he was offered a chance to be a backup and just chose not to.

I guess we'll never know.

Keep in mind he bolted to a division rival, then came crawling back and licked Reid's boots for the Vet minimum.

My first reaction was shock. I saw it scroll across the bottom of ESPN and I had to rewind on the TIVO.

Still can't believe it.

My greatest memory (and it is not a game moment) was when Seth, Dean-O and I flew to Chicago for that playoff game a few years ago. Seth was wearing his custom 54 jersey and was hearing it from the Urlacher nimrods wearing their 54 jerseys.

I just remember Seth repeating to them over and over ..."You will see the REAL 5-4 tomorrow, BABY!"

My favorite game moment of him was probably the pickle juice game in Dallas - when he returned a pick for a TD and was all over the field throughout the game.

heard today from gargano, who knows trott as good as anyone in the media, that the backup LB's are expected to play special teams, and that trott just isnt fast enough and didnt want to do that at this point in his career.

The "no special teams assumption" makes more sense than him just being unwilling to be a backup. The Eagles are well under the cap, and how awful would it really be for a guy with hamburgers for knees to sit on a bench and collect a paycheck for a few games until someone gets hurt?

The Redskins are playing LB shuffle. I don't know how badly he burned his bridges over there or how much of that coaching staff is left, but you know how they love picking up ex-Eagles. I'd hate to see that, but you never know.

Best case is that Trotter spends some time with his kids and the insane knee-healing machine he keeps in the house, then comes back mid-season as a savior injury replacement.

Damn man...I know it's part of the game...but this guy quickly became one of favorites again upon his return. As Seth said, the writing was on the wall a while back, but I just don't understand why he was cut now. I've been proven wrong every single time I've second guessed Reid's decisions on popular players before, but the timing of this release has me puzzled. How is it that Trotter couldn't at least provide some decent situational relief at the minimum?
