So if Reid was sober, he would still be having the same problems that he gets into while intoxicated?
possibly. i don't know of any addiction that causes someone to pull a gun on somebody who cuts them off in traffic.

Well yeah it can. But most addicts tend to pull guns while not wearing any pants!
Addiction can cause anyone to do anything.

rich kids make the worst addicts because so many people around them are enablers. Poor addicts either get sober or die.
I'd say these boys are a mess regardless and would still get in trouble with or without the drugs and booze.
The drugs and booze certainly ain't helping them.
Whatever is wrong with them goes far deeper than their boozing and drugging.

Addiction can cause anyone to do anything.
by that reasoning, you can blame any anti-social behavior by an addict on his addiction and remove all personal responsibility.
we're not talking about a kid who ripped off an old lady's purse because he was going out of his mind with withdrawal symptoms (which still wouldn't be an excuse). we're talking about a little punk who pulled a gun on somebody because he thinks he's a tough guy.

I think you got it backwards, they're ASSHOLES with the possiblity of being addicts... No question that Britt is an a-hole, the question remains is he an addict... (although I heard that if you try H you almost always get addicted so chances are he's addicted too)

Not at all. People are addicts by choice and are soley responible for what they do in active addiction

Reid will not step down. I thought Dungy would and he stayed. This just might be the fire Big Red needs to get these pussies to play....nothing like taking out your anger with the homefront at work!

i guess i misunderstood you. but the point remains: britt reid's actions (particularly with the first arrest; guns, ammo, gun-brandishing) didn't scream "desperate addict" to me, it screamed "gangster-wannabe asshole"

Right,
But Britt was/is a user. I tend to think that being in active addiction could make him act on his wannbe impulses and might even play a role in him having them in the first place.

update
Britt Reid, son of Eagles head coach Andy Reid, had more than 200 pills in his truck when he was stopped last week on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to published reports
200 pills?
Seems to me that Britt is doing some distribution on top of using. And he fell back into it right after "rehab".
Next step is that they are sending him for a mental evaluation. I pray for his sake that he gets a cognitive therapist and not a 12-stepper in disguise that the courts love to use.

for the record, i believe the vast majority of the pills were prescribed to him. however, i think the judge noted that he had both vicodin and bupronex (sp), an opiate withdrawal med, which no doctor would proscribe at the same time to the same patient.

Flesh,
Was that the 33 pills they found the first time or the 200 they found this time that were prescribed to him?
From what I have heard, bupronex is sort of like methadone lite and really doesn't do much for withdrawal symptoms. I haven't read any studies on it, but that seems to be the sentiment from the few people I know who used it to try to kick their addiction.

Ok I read some more articles and found this:
"I think some of them are [prescription], maybe all of them," Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor said. He said the results from the analysis on the drugs were not available yet. "We didn't get them in their bottles."
So the DA knows that the pills are of the prescription variety. But they don't know whom they were prescribed to and what bottles they came from.
I am just interested because if Britt was written new scripts after the first arrest, there is a doctor out there who has some explaining to do. Also, people with arrests usually get flagged in pharmacy computer systems and it would be strange if Britt's name fell through the cracks.

it's actually called subetex (buprenophine is the generic name). it's being considered something of a wonder drug for shorter-term opiate addicts. i have a good friend on it and it turned his life around almost immediately.

by the way, britt was also found with a rolled up ten dollar bill with white residue, so that changes things a little bit.

i believe the article said they found one hydrocodone (vicidin) pill in the original 33.

I am very happy for your friend Flesh.
subetex I only know one person who tried it and she spoke highly of it.
The other complaint I heard about bupronex is that it is equally addictive and creates it's own form of withdrawal symptoms.
