Didn't we already have this discussion? About which head coach you'd rather have than Reid? Funny how the wind changes, eh?

The only dif., well one of em here FB, is that NOW its come at a time when you can honestly point to a littany of things/trends as well as off field stuff and not just your favorite player in TO being shown the door.

You're right about Fisher, and he probably would've been canned hadn't the Titans rebounded last year.

So who you looking at now, Seth? Still taking Reid over Cowher, Shanahan, Gruden, etc...? Or do you fancy some flavor of the month college guy? Seth is GM for a day...

Another thing that's funny- one of my main criticisms of Reid in "T.O.-gate" is now being brought up- the lack of fire and seeming dispassion of Reid being reflected in the team as a whole. Remember, "the man doesn't curse"! It's no the ONLY reason I was dissing reid back then, but you're right- the way he handled the whole T.O. thing rang the alarms for me.

I don't know...we all saw how well a new (position) coach did his first time out.
Actually, I think that teams need fresh blood at the coaching positions from time to time, but I just think Reid and Co. will last as long as McNabb is still an Eagle. I still think that Andy would be a better GM than a head coach, but he has let someone else "call the plays" finally, and the Eagles were running fairly effectively in the GB game...until it really mattered...
Maybe Marty got locked in the bathroom at halftime?

Sure...as long as someone else made the draft decisions...and chose which free agents to sign...and decided to permanently erase Mahe's phone number.

This discussion ought to get AirborneEagle to chime in. He loves his Big Red... and coming close.
Anyway, I disagree, I think Reid could be great head coach (as opposed to GM) if that was all he did. Give up personnel decisions and let somebody else (Marty) call the offense.
Reid would be employed the next day as a head coach if the Birds cut ties after the season.

totally agree with Johnson. Get a real GM and keep Reid as coach. I am not ready to give up on a guy who's brought the Eagles to the playoffs (mostly deep in) for 6 of the last 7 years.
They are 0-1, not 0-8.

1) They'll never fire him. EVER. 2 straight sub .500 seasons and he would still be here. I believe that.
2) FB- nobody cited your point. Im not talkin philosophy reflected in the teams demeanor- im talking about philosophies regarding WHAT TYPES of players to aquire for WHAT TYPE of system(s) to run, to HOW TO APPOINT Assistant coaches and WHO BEST TO RE-SIGN/GIVE EXTENSIONS TO.
3) Im not lookin at ANY 1 coach out there already. Nope. Just saying that anything short of a SB appearance and I would half expect him to walk- and I wouldnt react with panic. How's that?

Good Eagle coaches in my lifetime:
Dick Vermeil
Andy Reid
Buddy Ryan (arguably)
All I'm saying is I do not want what is behind door #2.

Dungy was the best coach in the history of the Bucs, they canned him, and immediately won a Super Bowl.
I'm not saying I disagree with you, but there is a very, very, very fine line between consistency and complacency.

Interesting takes. Seth, I like the "family issues" exit idea and I agree that it's the only way Reid leaves anytime soon. For all of the things we gripe about, the guy has brought huge success to this team for nearly a decade - SB ring or not. Frequent playoff appearances increase the value of the team and the quantity of the fanbase, and that's the bottom line from an ownership perspective.
Getting back to the returner for a sec, don't count me as someone that wanted JR Reed back. I think more of us just wanted them to sign SOMEONE with talent at the position and give that guy a few weeks in preseason to catch a few balls and practice a bit. Instead we get over-confidence and a fiasco.

And nobody knew what was behind door #2 when Reid first signed on here.
This isn't like promoting Rich Kotite (though if Morningwood becomes interim, then yeah it is). If Reid decides to step down, I'm not afraid that somehow the team will return to the dregs of the NFL. Lurie and Banner still need the team to be successful.

Because Gruden's done so well in Tampa since he won with Dungy's team.

Would you rather have Gruden's 1 title and 5 mediocre seasons, or Reid's no title and 5 successful seasons? Might as well run around in circles.
Besides, didn't TB's GM leave for Atlanta after they won the SB?

Obviously I'd rather have the title. I'm just not convinced that a Reid replacement necessarily gives them a better shot. I guess my memory is too long when it concerns Eagles coaching changes.

The coaching staffs under Lurie have been successful, more or less (except Rich Kotite, but he inherited him). Which is why I'm not as concerned that a return to the 3-13 years is a given should Reid step down.
Unless they're thinking about bringing in Vermeil for one final run. That'd be...interesting.

Less - Ray Rhodes
More - Andy Reid
So they've made 1 good hire.

What other teams can say that?
Of course, this place could be like Cleveland, firing the guy that would eventually become the best of the modern era*.

well, I think we agree that it's a moot point - no way do they fire Reid. So if he steps down, we can worry about the next coach.
