I think Gruden is capable of stepping and taking this team with its current components to the Superbowl and winning. Something FB has proven that he can do. JMO.

Reid's problem is simple. He feels that repeatedly bashing your head against a wall may actually break the wall. His head isn't going to break.
His bullshit for the nth time:
* wins when he runs but doesn't seem to make that connection
* doesn't realize that anybody will do at any position other than QB. That is a corporate mentality. The value of a team is in the composition of its players' skills and HIS ABILITY TO MAKE THEM MESH. TO's crazy, but why does his insanity seem to be under wraps in Dallas? His mentality is a child's but a VERY talented child at that. Fine, I'm with the majority that he's an ass, but no moves to get quality. Softserve made the Birds interesting....Curtis just doesn't seem to have the same chemistry (so far) with McNabb.
Anyway
* burned timeouts....coulda been handy last week
* predictable play calling
* control freak
Not good.
While we are at it....I don't care for JJ's defense anymore. I think that somone who had a more sound rather than risk taking approach would get a TON out of this unit. The Birds have the talent to be a pretty good defense, but somehow they don't get what they should out of their personnel. When Reid employed JJ, it was because of his crazy blitzing scheme. Well, that was more than 8 years ago and people catch on. Moreover, when JJ started, he INTENTIONALLY utilized the scheme to mask the shortcomings of an undermanned defense. That approach needn't have been continued. Small LB's, smaller lineman and exhausted players. Of course, a pass happy offense accentuates the defensive fatigue.
He just has to BREAK FROM HIS OWN MOLD from time to effin' time.
I don't want to be counted in the majority to fire everyone, but Reid can't be GM and Heckert needs to be in a completely different line of work. He sucks balls.

while i agree that a pass oriented offense leads to more time on the field for the defense, there's nothing that says the defense cant step up and get off the field in 3 plays almost every time. hell, take the damn ball away more than 1-2 times per game.
T.O.P. is not just a barometer of the offense's ball control. the defense contributes to 50% of that number.

The rank fumes of last week's horrible loss have fermented by mid-week into open calls for the coach's head. And it's just week 2. Yeah, it's football season again.
Tell you what though -- they blow the doors off Washington this week and things will settle right down. Problem is, I don't have a handle on how this team's going to perform this year yet.

For the record- i never called for his head, nor do i want him shiatcanned.
I just think he will leave, and while once i woulda been upset with it, today and likely goin forward, i will be alright with it.
JJ is the main guy Im ready to see put to pasture, if truth be told and I could pick one person now, to be unemployed.

I think the main problem is that too many coaches (FB/JJ are more guilty of this than most) become enamored with a SYSTEM and try to fit players into it, rather than the reverse.
The truly brilliant coaches/assistant coaches (Walsh, Lombardi, Parcells, Belicheater, Buddy) built systems to take advantage of the personnel they had and offensive tendencies at the time. The WCO was built specifically to take advantage of Montana's limitied height/arm strength. The 46 defense was built specifically to force teams to pass quick, which they weren't accustomed to doing.
FB continues to try to fit people into his system, instead of molding his system to the personnel he has. Until he does the latter, the big success will continue to remain as elusive a power running game.

WCO goes back before Montana to when Walsh was OC with the Bengals. Forget the name of the QB, but he couldn't throw it more than 20 yards downfield, hence all the short passes.

If FB's leaving meant bringing in a new coaching perspective, I'd be ready to sign up for that even given the risk of things getting worse.
Problem is, if Reid goes, you KNOW you're just looking at spending the next five years with Morningwood (and not the good kind).
