T.O. Speaks

You have to read it to believe it...that's all I'm saying. it's from time magazine:

10 Questions for Terrell Owens

What should the NFL do about Michael Vick? Don Shipman, STAFFORD, VA.

Hmm. That's a very touchy subject. He's done the right thing by accepting the plea. He realizes that he has to be accountable for what he has done. We all make mistakes--and I'm sure he will grow from it. Everyone deserves a second chance. We're all human. That's what the world has really lost sight of.

Why are you so self-absorbed? Randall L. Dunn, CINCINNATI, OHIO

I don't feel that way. You can only base your opinion off the media's portrayal of me if you don't know me personally. But I definitely feel I have the skills to be able to put me on the plateau I'm on. I'm really confident in who I am, and you know, sometimes you have to be a little selfish to be great in what you do.

Were you offended when your ex-publicist explained that your accidental painkiller overdose last year wasn't a suicide attempt by referring to your contract, saying you had "25 million reasons" to live? Patrick Hurley, BUFFALO, N.Y.

At that time, there was so much going on that it didn't really have an impact on me until I got back home and started seeing the media making fun of it. I'm pretty sure it was something she wished she wouldn't have said. Look, we all make mistakes, just like I have. You just have to recognize the mistake and move on.

Why are wide receivers so high maintenance? Reda Shihadeh, JACKSONVILLE, FLA.

I'm not sure. You know, we're kind of looked upon as the go-to guys on the team. We're a very, very intricate part of the offense; we're expected to put points on the board. I don't think I'm any different than any of the other great receivers that have demanded the ball or seemed a little high maintenance themselves.

Do you regret how your relationship with quarterback Donovan McNabb turned sour in Philadelphia? David Sansone, PHILADELPHIA

You know what? I do regret some of the things that happened. Donovan is a great guy. Honestly, I do miss being around him. I learned some things from Donovan. It was a bad situation, and if there were a way I could go back and handle some things differently, I definitely would.

If you could choose any quarterback in the NFL to be the No. 1 in Dallas, who would it be and why? Patrick McLeod, PANAMA CITY

Man, that's a tricky question. I don't want to cause trouble ... O.K., I would say Peyton Manning, then Donovan McNabb. Peyton has history on his side, with his dad being a quarterback, and you can't say enough about how studious he is in the film room.

Terrell, any thoughts on when the 'Boys will win their next Super Bowl? Eli Blanton, CITY UNKNOWN

Eli, get your popcorn ready. Get your popcorn ready with a little extra butter. We have a very talented team. I know that just by talent alone, you don't win games. But we definitely have a group of guys that are ready to bring that sixth Super Bowl trophy to Dallas this year.

If T.O. stood for something other than Terrell Owens, what would it stand for? Madison Welch, ARLINGTON, VA.

I don't know ... ah ... Terrific One. Terrific One. I like that.

Is Barack Obama black enough for your vote? Annie Mac'Kie, CALGARY

[Laughs.] You know what? It doesn't matter what color the person is. May the best person win. Whoever does the best job, then that's who I'm for. But Obama is making a lot of the right moves.

What's your favorite TV show and why? Sascha Falahat, SOUTH BEND, IND.

I'm going to mention two shows. The first is America's Next Top Model. I just like to see how people interact--women can be catty once they're together. And my other favorite is the channel HGTV. I like to do my own decorating. No, I don't have a garden.

I don't see anything Earth shattering there- if you're incredulous about the "kinda missing Donovan"- it's obvious why he said that... He misses the 12 targets and 3 long bombs per game.

If he could choose 1 QB in the league to play with it would be Manning, closely followed by McNabb.

You don't find it a little odd that after throwing him completely under the bus for about a year and imploding that team to get out, he'd choose McNabb above any other QB but Manning...including his current QB?

Odd? No. He realizes now what he had, and badly he blew it. If there's one thing T.O.'s never been accused of, it's dishonesty. He says what pops into his head, but usually it's what he really feels. It's obviously a selfish motive, but he misses being the center of the offense- like when he was here. Hence he misses Donovan (not the person I'm guessing, but the QB throwing to him every other down)...

I not saying I condone his actions or his mouth, just saying that I appreciate how good of a WR is is/was. The speed/strength thing was amazing. One of the toughest/most physical in his prime I ever saw. Sort of like the Earl Cambell or Jim Brown of WRs. You know what- I liked Barkley too, but i know people that said they stopped watching basketball BECAUSE of Barkley. I understand.
Doesn't change my mind either way.

I don't see anything strange about someone saying "I wish I could go back and do that thing over again." Understanding that doesn't make one a TO homer, it makes them a human who's capable of learning from experience.

I'm not commenting on T.O. as a player, just the fact that he's a total nutjob.

After all the shit he pulled on McNabb and the Eagles, he "misses being around him" and would choose him as his dream QB over anyone but Manning 18 months later.

That's just weird.

Nobody disputes the fact that he's nuts, f-d. I just don't think that out of all the things he's done, showing a little (miniscule amount) of humility and saying he made mistakes when it came to the McNabb situation isn't all that weird, IMO.

Brady wouldn't target him 12 times a game, he'd spread it around. Come on fellas, think about it. He had to choose Manning (best QB) or else risk "looking like a fool".

I know, I know

agree with the rest... i was expecting something a lot nuttier after the caveat "you have to read this to believe it"

what he said about mcnabb is odd considering he's notorious for holding a grudge, but, eh, whatever.

Hey, if I'm the only one who thinks that's batshit crazy, I'm the only one.

It's one to no longer hold a grudge, but literally 18 months ago he said he'd rather have a 54 year old Favre as his QB over McNabb and now McNabb would be his second choice after Manning and ahead of the 3 time Super Bowl Champion, Carson palmer, Tony Romo (the logical answer to the question)...

He didn't just say he wishes he could do things differently. he said he missed being around McNabb and is his #2 choice of QB in th NFL, which is why I found it completely crazy.

F-d, keep in mind the season he had last year. Totally pissed at and frustrated with Drew for the first 6 games. Had him questioning his decision to trash the Eagles and Mcnabb until Romo got in there and started pumping him the football. Even then, Romo doesn't have the strongest of arms, and T.O. realizes the grass was MUCH greener in Phila.

fd - a narcissist's perspective is shaped only by what he thinks and what he feels at this exact moment. Some people are just like that. I think TO is like that. What happened 18 months ago just isn't that serious or important to him any more.

Hey, if I'm the only one who thinks that's batshit crazy, I'm the only one.

Well ya got my attention and NO - you're not nuts, thats effed up BIGTIME!

Dude, the guy made it his JOB to turn an entire team against the guy who he thought was the one to topple to have the team become HIS Team- and the fans already sold out, so it was a no - brainer- "I got the fans , F mcNabb if he wont go along w/ my taking over No.1 status on HIS team"

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT THINK THESE QUOTES SPEAK TO A DEEP SEEDED INSANITY NEEDS TO EITHER CHECK THEIR AGENDA AT THE DOOR OR REALIZE THAT PERHAPS THEY FAILED TO CONSIDER THE PAST IN THEIR ASSESMENT

Seth - I'm not quite sure which side of the line, which you drew, I fall on.

I suppose it depends what you mean by deep-seeded insanity. If you mean toys-in-the-attic, goes home and plays with de-bristled toothbrushes, barbie doll heads, and matchbox cars with no wheels, then no, I don't think that TO has a deep-seeded insanity.

I think he has a personality disorder and doesn't quite function within the bounds of what most of society would deem normal. But, I don't think it's severe enough to call him insane. I know plenty of people who are capable of completely ignoring what they say and do in the past, even when it is totally counter to what they are saying and doing now.

I'm not sure that is insanity. He admits that things could have been better and he was specifically asked about regret. Is it insane to regret bad decisions? His melodrama surrounding those events probably makes it more difficult to openly admit it without concommittantly admitting shame (by default).
