Interesting Cuts/Moves

I figured with everyone dumping rosters right now, it might be a good time to consolidate the intersting cuts from other teams.

- Skins cut Renaldo Wynn.

- Jags cut Leftwich.

- Giants cut JR Reed and Wil Demps.

- Allan Rossum was traded to the Steelers.

- The Browns cut Chris Barclay. He's a young running back, but he averaged 37 yards per kick return in the pre-season (5 returns) and had an 88 yard return for TD.

- Texans cut Wali Lundy and Bethel Johnson.

- Vikes cut Pinner, Stephen Spach, and Billy Ball.

- Aints cut Banjo Man and Antonio Pittman, their 4th round pick out of OSU.

- Cards cut Buster Davis and I think he was a 3rd round backer out of FSU this year.

If you see anything interesting, post it...

Not really a cut or move, but Dallas QB coach Wade Wilson got suspended for 5 games for using performance enhancers. He said it was to help with his diabetes.

That's.......out of the ordinary. The suspension, not the reason (I'll wait for Dr. Jules to tell me if it's legit).

- Bungles release Edge Hartwell.

- Raiders released Zach Crocket, Donovan Darius, and Quentin Moses. Moses was the 1st pick in the 3rd round and was projected as a top 10 selection after his junior year at Georgia when he had 11 or 12 sacks. Wow. Kiffin made an example of the guy for some reason, but I'd be throwing my waiver claim out there in about 2 seconds. Darwin Walker was in the same kind of situation and he paid off.

- Richard Seymour has been Pup'd, so he's out for at least the first 6 weeks of the season.

- The Jets did not release Chauney Stuckey, who was taking it to the Eagles as a returner in the last pre-season game.

- The Jags traded Alvin Pearman, another potential returner for the Eagles, to Seattle.

Hmmm. JR Reed as a kick returner?

He might be as good as Bloom with a toe injury.

I would assume JR Reed can no longer run, hence, the cuts.

It's a damn shame because he was such a weapon a few years ago. It seemed as though the Eagles were never starting further back than the 45.

Football players have to remember to avoid so many things: climbing jagged fences, riding motorcycles without a helmet, murdering their ex-wives...

The Eagles signed 36 year-old DT Kimo von Oelhoffen. In turn, the artist formerly known as Ian Scott was put on IR.

Kimo was great two years ago when the Steelers made their run. I don't remember him ever doing anything of note with the Jets last year.

I wonder if he's ever returned kicks?

I like the von Oelhoffen pick up, even if he's just a situational player. At his age, his tank is probably pretty limited, but if kept fresh, and used to help spell on goal line or short yardage situations, he could provide a nice 300lbs boost.

I am interested to see what happens at the KR/PR spot.

This just in....

Safety J.R. Reed enjoyed the trip home from his fiancée's home in North Jersey on Sunday morning after the Eagles called to let him know they claimed him off of waivers.

The only problem was that they had a hard time reaching him. Reed's phone was on silent and it took head coach Andy Reid a few tries before he got through. Reid only hopes that opposing special teams units have just as hard a time getting a hold of Reed.

The former fourth-round draft pick in 2004 was claimed along with middle linebacker Pago Togafau on Sunday. To maintain the 53-man roster limit, the Eagles released linebacker Akeem Jordan and safety Marcus Paschal."

The new MLB is 5-10, 250 rookie from Idaho State....

Like the moves, the old DT is large and very experienced hope he has some tricks up his sleeve yet.

J.R. Reed welcome back! It would be a great story to see him return and become what he was before the fence incident. Got to be better than pretty boy bust Bloom.

If Reed can still run, he has to be better than Buck or Choppahs.

That being said, I really wonder if he could be counted on to play safety. With Dawkins' age and Considine's inability to knock anyone down (aside from himself), it wouldn't be surprising if all four safeties logged significant time on the field this year.

Oh yeah, and the best thing to come out of all of these moves is the fact that Mahe is still serving crab fries. Hopefully, this is proof that he has been officially bumped off of Reid's speed dial.

not too crazy about the Oelhoffen move. He's been in the league 13 years. Also, he was Defensive End in a 3-4 defense. I am not sure that translates to DT. But what do I know. I am under the impression that the Jets had a lot of talent last year at the position so it wouldn't be too surprising if it turns out he is still a good player tht couldn't get playing time. I think the move mostly shows that the Eagles were couting on Ian Scott and this was the next best thing they could find.

I am glad they picked up J.R. Reed, but I am not expecting him to light up the field any more than Mahe would. I am just glad to see him get a chance. J.R. says he is as fast as ever, but it is hard to believe he would be as good in his cuts. But I saw make a pretty good interception in the pre-season moving across the field, so who knows.

Togafau is a rookie free-agent inside linebacker? Was released by the Cardinals.

So what does this say about our current linebackers?

Jordan got released? Hmmm. PS, maybe?

"Meh" about von Kerfluffen or whatever. At best, he's another big body. At worst, he's a forgotten memory. At least it's not Dhani Jones.

Have to wonder about Reed. Wonder why the Birds didn't look at getting him before the Giants did (was it because they still had faith in Bloom?), and I wonder why they cut him in the first place.

Oh yeah, and the best thing to come out of all of these moves is the fact that Mahe is still serving crab fries. Hopefully, this is proof that he has been officially bumped off of Reid's speed dial.

I wish. Mahe only has to do one more year and he'd be eligible for NFL pension. Which makes the likeliness for a return both scary and probable.

Yes, and I think that's rather obvious.

and I wonder why they cut him in the first place.

I'm fairly certain that he didn't look so good making cuts when he returned a year after the injury. I think we'll all find out real fast whether or not he can make those cuts.

Kinda shocked by the moves.

I figured KVO was finished as a player and he's never played the 4-3 (far as I know). He's a great 3-4 guy (or was), but at 36 years Old I'm just not sure what he could have left. Interesting, but surprising.

Seeing Scott go isn't that surprising, though.

The LB...Togafau? Undrafted, signed with the Cards, and they saw so much in him they immediately threw him back on the street. His reported weight, according to the Eagles, is 250. As a Jr. in college he was listed at 210. At his Pro Day in March he was weighed at 235. Either he's juicing, he's getting extremely fat, or something strange is going down. Guess we'll just have to wait and see here...

JR Reed. I love JR Reed, but he's finished. He's been cut by 4 teams in the last 12 months (Eagles, Rams, Falcons, Giants). The Giants didn't even use him in the return game in the pre-season. I'd love this story to work out, but there is really no chance it will, right?

Also, he doesn't return punts. Greg Lewis is still the punt returner.

This has to be some kind of joke.

I have some hope for JR. He was cut be the Eagles when he wasn't completely healthy. He was cut by the Falcons when they changed their coaches. The Giants never really signed him in the first place. They just wanted some temporary bodies. He doesn't have to be great. He just needs to be better than who we cut.

according to pravda

reed claims he's faster now than before the injury and that cutting is not an issue.

togafau led idaho state in tackles for each of his 3 yrs as a starter at MLB, and he had 16 special teams tackles in 4 gms this yr.

I also would really, really like to see JR make the team.

Welcome back,
Your bum knee was your ticket out.

Welcome back,
jumping that fence you couldn't laugh about.

Well some names have changed since you hung around,
Eagle green coaches remained and they're turned around.

Who'd have thought they'd claim ya (Who'd have thought they'd claim ya)
Here where they need ya (Here where they need ya)

Yeah we tease him a lot cause a freak injury blasted a nerve, welcome back,
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back, JR Reed.

Practice squad update.

The Eagles named six players to their practice squad on Monday: defensive tackle Jeremy Clark, fullback Jason Davis, wide receiver Michael Gasperson, defensive end Marques Murrell, wide receiver Bill Sampy and tight end Lee Vickers. The Eagles can carry as many as eight players on their practice squad.

The Chiefs claimed Rashad Barksdale.

I liked his upside quite a bit more than Grahams and I feel this is the latest in a comedy of errors perpetrated by the Gold Standard over the past 4 or so days.
