Well the season kicks off tonight in Indy.
Don't like either team but will try and stay up to watch the first half as a betting interest only.
Colts are -6
O/U is 53
Kinda of liking the Colts here. Don't think the Saints will be as good as last year minus the emotion of the Katrina factor.
I'll take the Colts -6.

I think the Saints won't trail off as much, but even a SB hangover won't close the gap between the AFC and NFC.
Colts by 17.

Colts looking good. Too bad. Would love to see a collapse after the SB win. Don't think it will happen. This team should cruise.

Brees should've stayed in San Diego. That interception was brutal.

Yikes...that's the best the NFC has to offer, huh?
The Indy Mannings can make anyone look bad, but that was a historically awful performance by Brees and I can only hope the Saints are as plodding and overmatched every week.
The thing that was most interesting was the fact that Indy highlighted a number of obvious weak areas in the Saints:
- Their RT is a complete and utter stiff.
- Colsten is painfully slow and no different than Keyshawn Johnson...today.
- Henderson is a one trick pony.
- Bush still falls on his ass and runs into his blockers.
- Jason David covers as well as he always did...not at all.
Good to see an NFC "powerhouse" get their teeth kicked in and I'm glad I don't bet the first couple weeks of the season because I thought the Saints would cover.

Old fashioned ass whoopin last night. See that? That was a championship caliber team. The Eagles? Good team, but man would they get their ASS handed to them by the Colts in a non-gentlemanly manner. Best team doesn't always win, and it's a long season, but you realize watching that Colts team last night how far away the Birds are from having a GREAT team.

He didn't have much choice. He didn't become really good until after they picked Rivers, and SD was going to go with him eventually. It's not like he really could've stayed in SD.
On the bright side, at least he's not in Miami. Yeesh.

Shed-whoopin' aside, I still think the Saints are a good team...in the NFC. There's no point in comparing any good NFC team to an AFC one, because the gap is so large.
Should see more butt-whoopin' goodness when the Chargers beat down the Bears.

OK, but in '04 the gap was just as large. I believe there were THREE teams with 8 - 8 records who made the playoffs in the NFC that year. The Falcons were the 2 seed and we all know they're pretenders. But you still felt the Eagles could square off against the elite in the AFC and not embarrass themselves (Pittsburgh game notwithstanding). They haven't played a game yet this year but just analyzing the team as a whole you can't say with any confidence they are a championship caliber team. Where my Kool Aide at?

I think the Birds are a championship caliber team - if we're talking just the NFC title. Even the best NFC team last year wasn't good enough to beat either AFC title contenders. The gap is a bit wider between conferences than in 04 because the Birds were better then overall than the Bears are now. (They did embarrass themselves in the SB, btw, but that's a side issue) The gap between NFC teams, however, is closer than it was in 04.
The Saints got exposed last night, but they're still a good team in a mediocre conference (and their schedule mirrors a college powerhouse).

AFC may be better than NFC, but I felt that yesterday's game really showed how much Jason D. of the Saints defense was exploited by Peyton Manning, and how much better the Colts defense is, especially when they have the other team having to play catch-up and can rush the passer on every down.
Plus it's the Colts. They killed the Eagles when they played last, and I don't think that's completely indicative of the rest of the AFC.
