These mistakes on special teams are correctable. It just bothers me that they weren't handled before the season starts. Wouldn't Jeremy Bloom have done ok here?
I much more concerned about the problem that the offensive line had handling the Green Bay defensive line and the problem McNabb had getting the ball batted down.
They ran the ball pretty well but be careful what you wish for. The pass game didn't look too well.
The one problem they didn't have was the problem I thought they would have. Defense. Defense looked ok, or was it that Bret Favre couldn't hit anybody?

Nah. Dallas fans have to be sure that they have won before they will post. If they beat the Giants, they MIGHT show up. It's all about the public status with the majority of them.

We brought up Mahe a few times today too. Not that he's the answer, but G-lew and Reed should be cut tomorrow.
I'd love to see some emotion from FB, at some point during the game. He should have had seacreat by the throat in the 4th quarter. These guys have been playing football their whole lives - there is no excuse for the way special teams played today.

I am in Giants country. A Giants fan looked at the schedule and had Eagles winning nfc east. But....he noted that the schedule gets rough at the end of the year and the Eagles had to do well in these early games.

The rough spots are the "new" spots. Shawn Andrews was injured and he had some holding penalties and the offensive line seems to have problems today. Kick returner was the other. Tight end (L.J. Smith) didn't look too comfortable. The freak. He got some pressure but also didn't get any sacks.
Except Omar Gaither and Chris GoCong. They seem to have done ok.

Reed is actually OK on kick off returns, but he should not be anywhere near a punt. As for g-lew, his one or two good catches a year are not worth the roster spot.

What's sadder - the play of the return teams, or the fact that some actually believe their salvation can be found in Reno?
Foolish all around - foolish for the Birds to not have a backup plan if Bloom wasn't going to make the team instead of inserting some scrub to catch; foolish for them to still consider Reno viable, just foolish.

OK, here's the even crazier talk:
At least Reno never coughed the ball up. Dude had some good returns, but overall he was axed because you knew he could never break the big one. This game showed that even having someone with sure hands (and a half a brain) is worth something in the PR game. Had Reno played and not made the big mistakes in the Green Bay game, the Eagles win handily.
I don't think anyone is saying that Reno is the be all / answer to the return game, but his "sure" hands wouldn't have lost this game. Everyone is merely harkening back to the fact that the PR facet used to never be a question, and that is all that would have been necessary to force OT (if not outright win) this game.

OK, maybe more like battered wife syndrome. But do you mean to tell me that there is nobody from NFL Europe, or arena league, or a late cut that can safely field punts and maybe break one once in a while.

J.R. Reed has some experience. I am surprised he made the decision he did.
And what's wrong with the offense anyway?

Apparently there is no one with "character" that "knows the system".
If anyone could have successfully fielded a fair catch on every punt, the Eagles are looking at 1-0 and being talked about as an NFC playoff favorite already. Now, they are being laughed at as having no foresight for "1/3" of the game and gambling on something that ultimately lost them at least one game so far this season.

...and the offense did enough to win the game. Did they suck? Hell yeah! What was up with the 12 (whatever it was) straight passing plays in the second half that was another huge contributing factor to the loss?
Still, the offense did enough to win, the defense did enough to win, the ST gave the game away. That is the end of the story as far as I'm concerned.

I'd like to think that they will learn from this, but I thought that they had learned to lean on the running game a little more.

On another note, Will James is horrible. Sheldon Brown should have NO fear of his job security. Mark my words, he will be exposed as Toast (unbuttered and a bit burned).
