P-FUCKING-U
(And no, ... I haven't been hitting the Silver Bullets today. Should have though.)
I'm available to "field" punts. Sure I may finish the season with 0 return yardage, but I promise NOT to put the ball on the turf!
Sad, ... just a sad display of special teams. Cost 'em the contest.
'Nuff said.

So is that an "official" endorsement of my skills there Dean-o? I accept, and will take significantly less than the $440K (or whatever it is now) based on your recommendation alone.
(...but I agree on your assessment...)

You know, I was starting to get drunk enough to handle the loss until I started watching the post game Favre love fest.
BLEAH!!!!
Everyone on Fox is labelling this as a Favre win? The fucking ST lost it for the Eagles! I'm in full-on Hate Tank mode! (M.O.D. for the uninitiated)
(and it's still not helping...)

Little late for game talk. But, what a joke on special teams. Starting a game AND ending the game the SAME way is inexcusable. I'm not surprised.

If you're begging for Mahe to come back, you might as well place a call to his uncle. Because at least HE took one all the way without falling forward.
ST will be a problem all year. Besides the punts, just wait until Rocca misplays a snap on an important FG. That is NOT going to be pretty.

I doubt anyone really wants Mahe back but something has to happen, they can't just throw guys back there that don't have a clue. did you see Greg Lewis on the sideline after his muff? He looked like Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest after the lobotomy, what a dumbass.
And to top it off I had a bet with a co-worker who actually flew to Green Bay for the game.
And to top THAT off I will have to endure a week of "The skins are going all the way" talk ad nauseum.
Today was a bad day.

BTW, this is in no way JR Reed's fault. He's never returned punts in his life. hw did exactly what he should have done...he sucked at it.
Same goes fro Greg Lewis. It's not his fault he sucks at returning punts. It's the coaches fault for putting a guy out there who has never returned punts before and just assuming it would work out.
They gave him his first opportunity last week in the pre-season and what did he do? Suck at it.
This is 100% on Reid and Heckert...not Lewis and Reed.
I thought Reed looked okay in the kick return game, but they were both abominations as punt returners (which is exactly what they should have been).
Fuck Reid, Heckert, and the future 6th round pick they wouldn't give up for a solid returner like Allen Rossum.

Totally agreed FD. It's idiotic. Plain and simple. Not the players fault. You could see on both fumbles they were timid as hell to start with.
Much less, it was obvious that Lewis was NOT going to fumble again when he took the smacking he took before they relieved him of his pr duties. No way should that ball have been touched. However, he's afraid of the turnover.
A polished return man (or at least anyone whose done it a few times) would know that.
I'm not totally surprised that they had either one them back there. You know how the front office boys are...they're the smartest......they're the ones who are all knowing. It's kind of what they get. I would expect more out of the coaches.

Yeah, it's foolish to blame JR and Lewis. JR has been playing football how long? And GLew is good how?
Both were guys that you could argue don't belong on the team. Don't blame them for that - blame the GM for thinking that just about anyone can returns punts, and for thinking that their depth was so good that anyone could do it.
FD< you're not right about Rossum. We need those 6th round picks to get those overweight linemen so Spuds can fantasize about bubbles or whatever.
I fully expect the PR job to be a comedy of errors all season, and we'll probably see other notables like Curtis, Avant, and Buck.

Perhaps the only saving grace is that this poorly-planned, mismanaged returner situation was completely exposed for a fraud in week one.
Better now than seeing it be 2/3 lousy for the first half of the season, with Reid giving them a "they're working hard" speech every time, before they actually think about trying to fix it.

I was toying around with this thought, but then it was quickly followed by "would be one of the worse ideas right now". The worst being Mahe, GLew, JR, and not anyone else (not in that order).
They had their chance, they blew it - only thing they can hope for now is that one of their 18 WRs on the PS can fit the bill.

Do any of you remember a game, in college or pro, where a team's special teams indeptitude played such a complete role in the outcome of a game?
I'm not talking about one single mistake deciding a game. I'm talking about where one team's entire offensive production was decided almost entirely by the other team's inability to play special teams.
I've watched quite a bit of college and pro football over the last 10 or 15 years, and I don't think I've seen another game that even comes close to this.

Roach, I have seen a couple of games that were decided by GOOD return men having several good returns to set up position and or score themselves; but I agree it's a rarity for ST's to be this responsible. It's almost mirical in the meadowlands reversed on us...
I don't think anyone gets cut, GLew if anyone, I actually liked Reeds returns on KO, knowing he has taken several the distance I trust him for that, I'm just surprised that none of the back-ups like Hansen or Mickell haven't done PR's before; I guess the only guys that have experience are the few guys we don't want to risk back there like Lito, Sheldon and BWest...
I am just hopeful that after this "game" that NO Eagles player puts the ball on the turf again during PR's. I think it'll be burned into al their heads "we don't want that to happen again" so we'll see a lot of fair catches and guys letting the ball bounce and waving teammates away from the ball...

Yeah it is original and brilliant.
It’s so "original and brilliant" that after posting here for about 5 years I've never seen anyone else use the word "section" in their username except for you.
So if you’re going to use half my screen name the least you could do is have the common decency to refer to me as Mr. Douche bag.
And while your at go slit your wrists - it will lower your blood pressure.

Asskiss actually criticized Reid last night, saying he's too stubborn to get out of the mode that his PR/KR has to do something else on the team, which is part of the problem.
GLew's comments last night on SF about the punt - "Well, the guy hit me at the same time that the ball got there". Really? You think he was running up to you for your autograph? He was absolutely clueless, and it showed not only in the game, but in his comments.
Oh well. Let's follow the opinion of the unwashed masses and put Westbrook back there. Winning one game now is better than losing 8 later should he get hurt, right?

"I feel like I let my team down," said Lewis, whose muff of Green Bay's first punt was recovered in the Eagles' end zone for a 7-0 Packers lead early in the first quarter. "But I'm not going to dwell on it. I talked to the guys and they told me to keep my head up, and that's what I'm going to continue to do, just try to get better each and every time I go out there, and hopefully, what happened today won't happen again."
I'd prefer he not dwell on it too much after they cut his sorry ass today

Keep your head up? Keep your head up??? How about offering the guy some fundamental advice such as, “PUT YOUR HAND UP”, … and signal for a fair catch. Hell, the next time he’ll be so lucky if his head isn’t detached instead of the ball.
