Hello everyone! Glad to be part of a great site like this. I love the Eagles! This is my very first day on the site, and what a topic to begin with.

I am sure that McNabb did the HBO interview a while back...before the Monday night game. He wasn't being a baby, he was giving his honest opinion. He wasn't playing the race card, he was describing how he felt as he saw it. I am African-American and I live in the deep South where racism still exists, contrary to popular belief. White America, as a whole looks at Black America as a whole as being less than them and beneath them to a certain degree. White Americans don't see it because they are white, but Black Americans see it everyday. The Civil Rights movement was not that long ago. White America has never had to protest for their rights, but Black American has. And if everyone is so equal, why aren't there just as many Black head coaches, owners, and GMs as there are White head coaches, owners, and GMs?

A black man trying to play the position of quarterback in the NFL is under more pressure. If Michael Vick was a running back or wide receiver, he would not have gotten near the media coverage. Vick was not the "Bret Farve, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Tom Brady like quarterback," and white America hated him for it. They act as if dog fighting is the worse crime in the history of humanity! Come on now.

And another thing....As long as McNabb didn't mention the fact that he was black I take it he was accepted, but the moment he mentioned he was black all of a sudden he's stupid and a cry baby. Wake up America! Whether you agree with it or not, race is still an issue in this country. Glory be to God that He only sees the heart.

And another thing...do you Eagle fans not know anything about sports and sports injuries? He is 10 months removed from a destroyed knee, he is a ahead of schedule but still not fully recovered, and my gosh...tell the owners to open the wallet and buy some receivers!

McNabb was "accepted" when he was making accurate throws, making plays with his legs, avoiding stupid mistakes, and leading his team to NFC Championships. When he led the Birds past the Falcons and into SB XXIX, 99.99% of fans wouldn't have given a shit if he'd revealed he was actually a methane-breathing space alien from Alpha Centauri.

When you're making an eight-figure sum to be the leader of an offense and you're throwing passes into the turf and into Row 4, getting sacked because you're reluctant to scramble, and leading an offense that can't get out of its own way, you're gonna get booed in Philly whether you're white, black, yellow, or red. You're a "crybaby" when you start attributing this fallout solely to race, instead of things like poor execution, slow recovery from an injury, the unwillingness of the FO to get a WR worth a damn, or any of a thousand other factors that are more important in the minds of those same 99.99% of Eagles fans.

Might want to read around. We're making fun of McNabb right now, but I think 90% of the site is putting the blame thus far on Reid and the front office (not McNabb).

The people bashing McNabb are WIP callers and the Eagles own media department.

If fact, while you're looking around the site, you should see that the majority of people here have been criticizing the Eagles' front office for a calculated assassination on McNabb's character, just to make sure he's not here next year. That, by itself, is shady. Not to mention the way this org's treated him lately has made him paranoid.

A QB doesn't get 'hated on' because he's black, he gets hated on because he's screwing up. There's plenty of white QBs who have endured their share of angst. Grossman, Dilfer, and at certain times Garcia, Brad Johnson, etc.

Point is, QB is a high profile position, and is going to be subject to a ton of criticism no matter what. However, McMartyr thinks he gets more criticism because he's black.

fans constantly praise and call for his backup...john walton, one of the NFL's first black QB's, who went on to have a few good yrs in the usfl.

few cared about race, most of these fans had their ( misguided ) perception that walton was better..so play him.

winning was the bottom-line, as it has been and always should be.

Phil Sheridan talked about Jaws' days, and how the way the media has changed into a 24-hour, in-your-face sensationalist organism makes things different. I agree that times are different just based on this fact alone.

How bout this....I agree with you Efanok about McNabb's problems. What I find trouble with is that the USUAL rehab time for an ACL is on the order of 18 months. He's 8 months ahead of schedule. Palmer looked tentative his first several games last year and he came back early as well. Then again, McNabb doesn't have Chad Johnson and TJ Whathisname for WRs.

You cited all the usual problems that he has, but I think those things are magnified while he a: regains his sense of balance and timing and b: has confidence in his surgically reconstructed ACL. It may not happen this year or with this team.

Atlanta, Chicago, Baltimore and Miami would be top candidates.
