Wait a minute. A guy on the Eagles' payroll — who later in the column said that linebacker Joe Mays “looks great in a uniform” and who declared a “man-crush on Takeo Spikes” during training camp last summer — is going to lecture the media on credibility?
That actually made me laugh out loud. As did the line of WHEN the Eagles beat New England....

..the concluding thought to the line about beating New England was better. He's going to feel better than his wedding day or the birth of his children. The sad thing is that this guy bribes people into this Homerish ways of thinking with elaborate Training Camp meals paid for on the Eagles credit card.

This guy's picture should be on this thread's header, since, after reading the article, he is the definition of it. Except that he's too frickin' ugly. But his point is right on the money.

If this town were really as negative as Spadaro portrays it to be, the head coach would have been run out of it for what happened in his personal life last year.
Honestly, I don't know how he was able to hold onto his job. If you can't control your kids, how can you control a team?

"What Spadaro and the Eagles don't seem to understand is that this is a fight they can't win."
Be this a reference to most Americans believe what they read in print?
Food for thought

It's odd that I don't find Steve Coates half as annoying as Spuds. Coates never pretends to be objective and will say the reason he says what he says is because there's a Flyers logo on his paycheck.
When Spadaro covers himself in this condescending cloak of "journalism", it makes my blood boil. The character assassination, the fawning over marginal players, the ludricrous statements that do nothing but further the FO's agenda. I despise him.

I find Coates annoying, but at least you know where he's coming from. And I know that I don't look to him for objectivity.
It's the essential problem that the Eagles have with the media - they want to control everything that comes out, because any type of negativity means to them that people will be unhappy with the product, and that somehow will translate into less sales (I'd reckon).
I thought I was going to be sick gushing over Spadaro calling himself a "journalist", but why waste the energy? He is who he is - a paid shill.
There's some meat in his articles, no doubt about it - just gotta sift through the other mess to get to it.

And that "discussion" on 610 was interesting, but what has he said that hasn't been said before?
And the "if Desmurf Jackson was running guns, would you report it?" question shouldn't be looked at as him denying the public info, but just how the NFL runs in general.

-Agreed.
Instead of hosting another Eagles Live, maybe Spuds should just start posing for the Cheerleader's lingere calender--it would suit his role better.

I see both sides here.
I definitely think Spuds (and Reid) were completely out of line scolding the media.
I also agree with the greater sentiment Spuds was trying to get across...the failure of the media. He's talking about 3 different reporters writing articles about the cloud hovering over the Eagles training camp (one calling it "team turmoil") without anything to back it up.
The reporter said "are you telling me there aren't some players unhappy with their contracts?" and Spuds accurately responded "Show me any team in the league where all 80 players are happy with their deal?".
It's completely true...only shitty players are "happy" with their deal and some of THEM even think they are underpaid.

Coates doesn't take himself too seriously and appears tanked half the time. He's there, like WIP, For Entertainment Purposes Only. Everybody knows that, and he doesn't even try to be something he clearly isn't.
I think the perfect comparison is Therien and Morganti. Both guys toe the company line without going overboard on the Post Game Show, but on the morning show (FEPO) they are a bit more critical and really don't give a shit. Spuds' homerism travels everywhere with him, and it has reached the point where you wonder if he actually believes half the grabage that comes out of his mouth or if he is simply terrified that 'Big Brother is Watching'.
Either way, he's a chump because he's either lost his balls (Won't criticize the Eagles even when warranted) or his self-respect (Sold his opinion to the highest bnidder) or both.

Everyone at Bannercorp can't seem to grasp that we now view success as a Super Bowl championship and nothing less. They may even feel the same way, although they'd never let on to it because such a philosophy does not yield the kind of profits that one could mine from a sustained and lengthy period of above average seasons that perpetually tease the fanbase into buying tickets and merchandise.
Nevertheless, everyone from the top on down thinks they can somehow lecture the fans and media out of this "win it all or you've failed" mindset, but that's just not going to work because we've been here (and suffered) a lot longer than they all have.

I believe a Super Bowl is too much pressure...give them some time.
For now, I'll just be satisfied with the smiles on their faces. I just want to see them have fun.
They grow up so fast, you know.

Decent if not odd read on Philly.com today.
Apparently DeSean Jackson's Dad has a little Carl Lindros in him.
And is defensive about his being very very hands on with his son. It was an issue at Cal apparently, between their HC and TedFord Jackson, DeSeans pop. (Tedford? Super).
This quote kinda sets me up to think that there could be friction- if not between 'TedFord' and Reid, at least in DeSeans ear via Tedford.
Tedford.
"...I've heard Andy Reid doesn't want me anywhere near his facility. I'm like, 'Damn, what did I do?"
And then there's this one by Bowen, summarizing part of his conversation with Tedford:
"Tedford said if the Eagles fashion the proper environment for Jackson, he will work hard and he should succeed."
Not panicked or anything, just kinda found the article a tad odd, and the guys remarks kinda let me think we're goin to come to know "Tedford" as a house hold name.

Let's get all the "Tedford and Son" jokes out of the way now, since the media will run it into the ground if/when Papayo becomes an issue.

His Dad's name is Bill Jackson, from the article. I think there might have been an error and some confusion that they edited out at some point because the Tedford quotes are from his college coach, Jeff Tedford.
However, the most disturbing quote from his father had to be this one:
"With Donovan McNabb . . . I think DeSean will be the next Iverson in Philadelphia,'' Bill Jackson said.

Actually glad I blew that TedFord bit FD, thanks.
It woudla been tough to not abuse that name durin the kid's entire career.
That one wasnt as upsetting to me, cos it kinda made no sense/coulda been taken several dif. ways.
Seems like (in the sentence prior) he is all set (Daddy Jackson) to scrutinize the QB play here, as he has never liked the QBs his son's had to work with.

I don't agree in any way with the way PAPA Lindros acted, but at least his son was a certified super star the minute he stepped on the ice in the NHL.
Jackson is a 5'9 168 pound Kick and Punt Returner, who will average less than three catches a game his rookie year.
