I still think Jackson will be something special. Iverson? I don't think he's anywhere near that level of talent or drama.

Part of this is hype. The team knows it needs to get a star WR to make Donnie happy. However, they don't want to pay one/trade for one enough to meet the needs required (and probably for good reason too), so they're left with home grown talent.

Jackson was the number one WR I had tagged for this years draft. That he's actively going out and learning from guys like Rice what to do (and not just avoid the jam) is another plus. He'll play likely as a 4th or 5th option this year max though, it will be years 2 and 3 that he'll push for playingtime (coaches permitting).

I still say if Jackson does well, that means Brown becomes a bust though.

Its by a sportswriter, no balls necessarily.

Paul Domowich ranks the NFL's top teams.

You'll be happy to know that he ranks both Seattle and The Browns ahead of Philly.

I would not.

The others are no brainers.

He's got the Birds ranked 11th.
I'd have em around 8 or 9 as the rosters stand now.

Based on the way things are listed there, I'd agree (8 or 9). Seattle, Green Bay, and the mistake by the lake can get the nod based on their finish last year, but I think the Eagles are as good or better than any of those teams.

Right now, Andy is on Eskin's how- they are in a heated duel, trying to out unfunny each other to death.

Just painful. As was Reid's response to Eskin asking him about Westbrook's comments on thinking "as an elite player in the league, he deserved a raise".
A lot of stammering, stuttering, and "well, every player is gonna say that".

Nevermind that he's one of the best in the league, right Andy?

Even better- McNabb will be on Eskin's show next Wednesday taking calls.

I won't miss that, you may even hear me make my debut

"Even better- McNabb will be on Eskin's show next Wednesday taking calls"

So will Spuds call in 50 times using different voices? Or will his head explode when they ask a tough question?

Actually, I think McNabb can handle it just fine. It will be interesting to see if he stays by the company line, or let's himself be more candid.

There's no good place for this, so I thought I'd just put it here.

Spuds did an interview with that creepy bean counting rat, Joe "Cheese Sandwich and Brown Cardigan" Banner.

This was one of his quotes:

"Last year, when we took our first-round pick and traded to Dallas, I remember doing an interview and saying, 'We got Kevin Kolb, Stewart Bradley and Brent Celek and we think those players will compare favorably to the player Dallas selected, linebacker Anthony Spencer.' In fact, as I said, last year we got more out of those three picks than Dallas got out of its one."

Celek wasn't actually part of that deal. CJ Gaddis was the guy they took with the pick acquired from Dallas.

Someone brought that to the attention of Spuds on the Eagles message board and this is the response Spuds gave:

"Mr. Banner is aware of whom the Eagles took in the draft with what picks. He chooses to portray it this way"

I don't know why, but that got a NTF from me.

"Mr. Banner is aware of whom the Eagles took in the draft with what picks. He chooses to portray it this way"

what's funny is that you actually could defend banner's comment in a way that doesn't make you sound like a teenage fanboy with tears welling up in your eyes.

I know several variations of this line has been used on the board before, but the thought of Joe Banner eating a cheese sandwich and wearing a brown cardigan just makes me laugh for whatever reason.

Les Bowen with a little shot at GCobb, methinks:

Also, Lorenzo Booker, the Brian Westbrook complement the Eagles got from Miami. Booker is more of a third-down back than Westbrook - he doesn't have Westbrook's stubby, powerful frame. But he sure seems to be able to run a pattern and catch a pass. Andy Reid likes backs who do that, the Daily News has learned.

Pretty good read on how when Reid took that leave of absence, Banner kinda started behind the scenes, taking control within the Front Office.

Very good article. Nice behind-the-scenes maneuvering, and it changes my stance that Reid will be here for a long(er) time.

So Banner was the one pushing for a marquee wide receiver?

Now I have to like Joe Banner?!?

This turns my whole world upside down.

That article is certainly interesting, but I didn't see a lot of facts or reporting in it. It seemed more like random musings to me.

It does not seem like they are as into Heckert as they used to be and promoting Roseman at the expense of Licht smelled like Banner, but there really wasn't any evience provided that Banner wanted Moss or Reid didn't.

It does feel like Banner has become the guy around there, but I wish this article felt more factual and less made up.

Rich Hoffman begins by making a bold statement, then acts like a human vagina by saying, "To tell them the name of the wide receiver they should acquire is to pretend to know the personnel end of the business better than they do, which is foolhardy," then talks tough again, then uses Reidian backward logic to say, "The counter-argument goes like this: The expectation is that Brown should be OK for Opening Day against St. Louis, and that Curtis will have his surgery and do his rehab and get back relatively quickly. Given that, why would you spend a fortune on another wideout who will be a redundancy by Columbus Day," then talks tough again.

This guy plays from both sides so often you'd think he's bi.

I'm reading the article, and this line just makes you scratch your head:

This is not to say they have been wrong in the past about how they evaluated wide receivers - because they were not wrong. Curtis, Brown and Co. are a skilled-enough group to win a lot of games in the NFL if McNabb is healthy and confident. The Eagles really do have that part of it right.

Yes, so the play of the WRs depends on whether or not McNabb believes in them. It has absolutely nothing to do with them being below average.

I wonder why we even read his articles, because he's trying to play both sides of the fence - not totally without credibility like Asskiss, but trying to represent Joe Fan. He's nuts.

I think he's totally without credibility because he always tows the company line.

He posts pieces like this one because he wants to earn credibility by voicing the will of the people (FYI, at present, 94.2% of people polled online in the Inquirer want the Eagles to pursue another receiver.), yet he always makes sure to defend the team in these pieces.

He is pathetic.

Agreed, Bass. This is a textbook definition of 'talking out of both sides of your mouth'.

For all his faults, Eskin never does that.

I often dissagree with you guys about Hoffman and I do in this case as well.

What's he saying that isn't accurate?

- The Eagles need help.
- There probably isn't any help out there.

Right?

Redundancy - noun - 1) excess. 2) unnecessary repetition.

Which one is like Boldin? Baskett or Lewis? It's only lunchtime on a Thursday, but bartender ... I'll have what he's having.

No. They absolutely have been wrong. Look at all the wasted draft picks for proof.

They were right with T.O. (a no-brainer), and they might be right about Desean Jackson. As for the rest? W-R-O-N-G.

Curtis, Brown and Co. are a skilled-enough group to win a lot of games in the NFL if McNabb is healthy and confident. The Eagles really do have that part of it right.

If "a lot" equals 9 games, then I guess they have it "right."
