Hines Ward got sued either last year or two years ago by a former business partner because allegedly Ward stiffed him out of money owed from a joint venture in a bar in the Burgh.
Apparently, Ward filed for bankruptcy (on behalf of the bar), then turned around and bought the bar?
He's still money on the field though.

Les Bowen gives a little bitchslap to Reggie Brown:
"Reggie Brown, who made his less-than-memorable 2008 debut Sunday, catching no passes, might want to check out tape of that third-quarter Troy Polamalu interception of Kevin Kolb, the one that volleyballed off L.J. Smith, then seemed about to hit the ground before Polamalu dived in and somehow got a hand on it. (I'm still not sure Polamalu caught the ball, but the replay official was convinced.)
Yo, Reggie: The ball did not hit Polamalu in stride. He had to chase it down and dive for it. It IS possible to do more than just turn your head and follow the track of a pass that isn't thrown right into your breadbasket. That Donovan McNabb fellow, the one who dispenses the ball most of the time? He might be more inclined to send it your way if you were willing to click out of cruise control and get dirty in order to catch it. I'm just sayin'."

Reggie Brown sucks.
Gotta give credit to Mike Tirico, when referring to the Chargers' Buster Davis, he said, "Well, Buster has sure lived up to the first 4 letters of his name"

Probably doesn't belong in this thread, but the new book out now "Boys will be Boys" (about the Cowboys during the Aikman/Irvin/Emmitt run) sounds hysterical.
Apparently Irvin stabbed a teammate in the neck, there are a lot of stories about the White House, some weird Charles Haley tales, and the general assholiness of their team.

I don't think they went into much detail in MMQB, but the guy who wrote the book was on DNL a couple weeks ago and I meant to post about it at that time.
Apparently, the whole story was:
- Cowboys had a locker room barber.
- Rookie was getting hair cut in locker room.
- Irvin came in and demanded he have his hair cut.
- Players, messing around, took sides (some yelling at the rook to give up his seat in mid-haircut and other telling the rook he didn't have to take that crap).
- Irvin became incensed and tried to force the rook out of the chair.
- Confrontation escalated and the rook decked Irvin, knocking him to the ground and embarrassing him.
- Irvin gets up, grabs the barber's scissors, and stabs the rookie in the neck.
- The kid is taken to the hospital and almost dies.
- Irvin, already on probation from prior brushes with the law, was going to jail for a long time if this came out.
- All players were directed to never speak of the incident again by the team.
- The rookie who was stabbed was given a settlement in "then high six figures" by Jerry Jones to keep quiet about it.
It's crazy, crazy, crazy shit.

There was also a story about Irvin punching a volunteer ref at a charity basketball game for a missed call, among a million other stories about the team.
The book sounds absolutely insane and I can't wait to read it. If it isn't made into a feature film at some point in the future, I'd be shocked.

Spoiler Alert:
Here's the stuff on Charles Haley. It's pretty graphic and beyond fucked up.
Jeff Pearlman is a very good author. I have two of his books: the one on the 1986 Mets and the Barry Bonds biography.

I hope you're all sitting down.
You're never gonna believe this, but the Hoff says we should be grateful for the leadership of Banner and Reid.
Not that entirely I disagree with him because it undeniable that these two have brought an unprecedented run of "competitive" years to this franchise, but they also need to accept some blame for not being able to get the team over the hump.
The repeated failures in championship games cannot be entirely attributed to injuries and luck, as they would like us to believe. Yo, click it

Oh, Rich. When you start a column like this:
It is a lonely, singular burden, that of being Andy Reid's defense attorney. But I soldier on.
It just sniffs as a pale comparison to Spuds.

Que ridiculo.
The justification for not challenging is that he doesn't like to do it, which is the same justification for not running the football. Brilliant.
Challenging the spot of the football (with the exception of touchdowns) is the easiest challenge to "win" because chances are, the referee was off by a hair. If there's any movement of the ball, you win. I don't think I've ever seen a coach "lose" a challenge in this manner (even if the changing of the spot didn't result in the desired outcome with regard to first down), and if I were coaching, I'd challenge the spot at least once per game.
I'd also run the football, acquire a dominant wide receiver with size, and not act like a giant pussy.
And yet the Eagles never call.

I guess i needed blue there.
He used to wave more red flags than Russia in the 1980's. I'm not sure what happened, but that was obvious instance to challenge
However, I am thankful a bi-curious, pothead hippy from NY isn't coach

I was referring to da Hoff's latest appalling column, but you got in there and punt blocked me.
FWIW, that photo is an optical illusion. The shot is not directly over the goal line. Otherwise, you wouldn't see the right side of the body of that Eagles player on the left side of the picture.
