Here's a funny paragraph from Bill Simmons' column today:
Funniest e-mail of the week, from a Philly fan calling himself "Andy Reid": "So, I pulled into my local drive-thru. After analyzing the menu for 25 minutes I quickly placed my order. As I pulled to the first window I was shocked to see Donovan McNabb working the register. Unfortunately, I pulled a foot away from the window. I had no idea how to get my money in there. Do I hand it in or try and throw it? I decided it would be better to waste five minutes backing out and pulling back in. After I handed Donovan my money, he threw my change five feet over my car. After receiving my food, I double-checked to make sure I had the right order. I checked for three minutes and knew they messed it up. I pulled back to the window to complain. After giving the employee a stare of mild confusion, he informed me that I had received what I ordered. I pulled away stunned."

He also mentioned some other stuff, and although I'm not a big fan of BS, he's got a point here:
So, what would the Bengals-Eagles documentary be called? I vote for either "Four Hours Of Life That Nobody Will Get Back" or "The Longest Turd." Either of these will do. I don't care. And, yes, I wanted this show even before McNabb pushed the epicness (epicity? epiciousness? epicism?) of such a memorably putrid game by admitting he didn't know the overtime rules. I thought Warren Sapp summed it up well:
"Donovan, your legacy will be throwing up in the Super Bowl, Rush Limbaugh and now -- not knowing there were ties!!!"
I'd also throw in Campbell's Chunky Soup commercials, but, yes, that's probably it. I have watched far too much of the Eagles this season (again, for fantasy purposes) and would evaluate McNabb's 2008 performance like so: out of shape, careless, semi-competitive and uninspiring. The fact that Philly can't run the ball in short-yardage situations but McNabb never, ever, EVER runs QB draws or sneaks should tell you something. I think he just doesn't want to get hit anymore. He seems like a guy on his way out of the league to me.

And you had to believe Lucha Latte was cackling with glee when McNabb said what he said. His prediction:
Andy Reid calls over Donovan McNabb just before kickoff and says, "Just wanted to alert you - we're playing four quarters today. Sixty minutes. I'm going to do everything in my power to not get us into overtime because I don't want you to be mentally taxed with such a difficult concept."

I think there's a chance the Eagles win today. They want to pass and their only option will be passing against the Ravens. The Ravens offense isn't explosive, either.
However, this could also (regardless of outcome) be the week McNabb gets the hook. After Reid read his team the riot act and declared jobs were on the line, what do you do if McNabb stumbles badly out of the gate and you enter the locker room down 10-3 or something like that? Is this the week you send Kolb out in the 3rd quarter?
I think things could get interesting today, but I'm ultimately rooting for whatever gets FB fired the fastest.

so, you're ultimately rooting for his arteries to call the final timeout then?
cos he goes on HIS terms IMO. They wont fire him.

Yes, especially when he breaks it down so well in one paragraph and one line:
The offensive line is in marked decline. Brian Westbrook is at half speed due to injury. The play calling is hilariously bad. The tight end situation is incomprehensible. The defense is outstanding against rookie and backup quarterbacks. McNabb played poorly.
Reid benched McNabb.

"It's not all about one guy," Reid said after making it about one guy.
"We're not all going to sit here and point at Donovan," Reid said after pointing at Donovan.
"It's not all about Donovan," Reid said after making it all about Donovan.
At least when it comes to the Eagles, that was Phil's finest hour.
There will be too many of these to post today. Yesterday's game is like an angry writer's dream.

There is no going back after Reid made McNabb the scapegoat for the systemic rot he, Reid, has allowed to weaken this football team.

WARNING! Rich Hoffman has begun to turn on his master!
Piling on Reid for the way he benched McNabb will be standard fare for the day, but the fact that Rich also went after him for this, an incident that had me screaming like crazy during the game, is living proof that Hoffman must have doubts about Reid's job security:
But it wasn't only that. Reid completely botched the time management at the end of the first half, delaying a timeout call for nearly 20 seconds on the Ravens' final possession. The Ravens snapped the ball for an unsuccessful third-down running play with 47 seconds left and Reid didn't call timeout until there were 22 seconds remaining, at which point the Ravens tried a 53-yard field goal and missed.
Normally, this time-management rap against Reid is overblown - but this was bad, especially considering that the Eagles' subsequent drive died for lack of time on the Ravens' 44-yard line.
Just a terrible day. Reid was right when he said, "If your football team doesn't play better than what we played today, it's about me." link

Ford: McNabb is Toast
He benched McNabb and that, of course, is the big story on Inaction News. The sight of a healthy McNabb standing on the sideline with his hands stuffed in the pockets of a warm-up jacket was shocking. It wasn't undeserved, although the quarterback is far from the team's only problem. He was awful against the Bengals and maybe worse against the Ravens. There's not much a five-time Pro Bowl player can say about a 13.2 passer rating except that it won't help secure a sixth appearance.

Nice to know Da Hoff hasn't COMPLETELY turned on Reid:
I am in the municipal minority because I think Reid should be back next year. I am as aware of his faults as anybody but I also am aware of the good side. He has not done a good job this season with what he has had to work with, and that is his fault. But he also is saddled right now with a self-destructing quarterback/star and a one-legged running back/star. Even if he had better managed his roster -- and he should have, and that is on him as the king of personnel -- this was going to be hard.
He never did say what the "good side" was.

So it's Reid's fault that he saddled himself with this problematic roster, but Reid shouldn't be blamed for the problems because he's been saddled with a problematic roster.
Thanks, Rich. I guess NovaCare saw your other piece this morning and decided that you needed reprogramming.
