Take a look at his splits, seriously, for each year. All the numbers are extremely similar.

Yeah...but now they are lower (that's the only difference).
A kicker doesn't just start missing 50% of his attempts. The different between an 89% kicker (one of the best in the league) and an 80% kicker (mediocre) is a couple kicks per year and he's consistently missing a couple more kicks per year.

He doesn't miss that many, and his whole career his % went up and down ever year.
Up from 99-00, down from 00-01
Up 01-02, down 02-03.
Up from 03-04, down from 04-05, etc.
Each time his % went up, it's b/c he made more attempts than the year before, and as a result, the % wasn't as affected as negatively.
Also, his % went down when he had more attempts from the 40 and 50+ range. His % was better in '00 than '01, he had fewer of those attempts.

I gave you his rankings compared to other kickers in the league, too.
It could be one thing or another, but the bottom line is he's been 15th in the league or lower for the past 5 years after being among the top 9 in each of his first 3 full seasons. That has to mean something, doesn't it?
I'll say this...he certainly doesn't fill me with confidence like he used to. Could just be in my head, but the numbers and rankings seem to bear it out.
He has to be leading the league in TBA (touchbacks avoided) over the past few years, too.
Akers = massive gay.

one thing you can't say about akers is he's a pussy (except for the whining).
he's one of the few kickers who looks to make (and has made) some legit open field tackles to prevent a KR from taking it to the house.

So a guy who whines about his holder, his snapper, and windy stadiums while wearing a gold chain and practicing karate isn't a massive gay?
I'm just kidding, but he's become pretty annoying over the past couple years with the dramatics when he hurt his hamstring and forcing the Eagles to keep Detmer/bring him back all those years.

I think the one thing those numbers show is that he doesn't change that much. Kickers around the league may get better or worse, but he's never been a model of consistency, as the numbers show. Rankings only show him in relation to other players.
He's been an up and down kicker his whole career. Attempts and long kicks have more of an effect than him being a pussy, or whatever the detractors say.

You're pretty much using your feelings to read into the hamstring situation. He's never faked an injury before, and he's a pretty tough guy, so I don't understand why he would act like that all of a sudden.

KB- i dont think he's a puss, i do think he's taken to whinning lately- around the same time as his return from injury.
I think its simply to mask the fact he doesnt have the same leg/confidence in the leg. Thats all.
Wind was never made such an issue of, aside from the 1st month at the Linc and the 1 endzone.
Turf? Ive never heard a PK refer to diferent turfs (including- OMIGAWD- the almighty Linc!!) as much over the past couple yrs....
and before anyone thinks otherwise- I actually like the guy.
Seems down to earth, likes the fanbase, playin here, and he's tough on coverages (and sidelines).
Just think that he's shown a noticeable change in his public persona since his injury and i attribute it directly to the injury.

Turf??? The Linc is rapidly heading toward the condition of the vet.... Look at the MNF game... The field in the "burgh" is in pristine condition.... Can't wait to see an article on the field condition being detrimental to the team

I don't think he faked the injury...I just never saw anyone act as though the back of their leg was attacked with a chainsaw when they pulled a hamstring. I'm just breaking his balls on that one because I thought it was a little over the top definitely not gangsta.

With the weather and Temple, the Linc takes a beating.

Since we are talking about Akers (I can't believe Eagles fans are actually so desparate for football discussions that it has come down to talking about the friggin kicker), maybe Childress is playing headgames with Akers. He just signed Neckbeard.

Les Bowen gives out his midseason report cards, and (no surprise) he gave the coaching staff a failing grade:
COACHING: F
The Eagles have lost two games they definitely should have won. Their initial offensive approach did not reflect that Donovan McNabb was still in the early going in his recovery from ACL surgery, a judgment so inexplicable it spawned internet theories about plots to make McNabb look bad. The Eagles can't seem to figure out how to run the ball consistently, or how to run red zone plays the opponent hasn't sniffed out before the snap. Their defense, stalwart in several games, nonetheless fell in a heap at the feet of Brian Griese and then decided covering Jason Witten while ignoring Terrell Owens was a great idea. There hasn't been a game yet where you said afterward: "Boy, that was a great job by the coaching staff."
I think you could give a nod to the Detroit game, but I think he's spot on with this, overall.

Jason Whitlock decided to beat on white people for a change.
Funny thing I never thought about is how this situation would be perceived if this wasn't Andy Reid and his family, a coach like Marvin lewis and his family.
I'm not a racial conspiracy theorist, but I find it hard to believe the media would be so gentle if Marvin Lewis had two sons running around Cincy dealing drugs, threatening people in their cars with guns, etc.
Here's Whitlock's article, though:
Reid getting a pass from the media
Jason Whitlock
FOXSports.com
An absentee father, a mother at home with five kids, two boys with guns and drugs scattered throughout the house and a cranky, mouthy judge at sentencing time.
You've heard this ghetto tale a thousand times. Only this time, we're not talking about boyz 'n the hood or menaces II society, and it didn't transpire in sugar hill or some new jack city.
We're talking about an American Wanksta: The life and times of Andy Reid's boyz.
What's interesting and enlightening is examining the fallout and reaction to the Reid's family crisis. As best as I can tell, there's a lot of compassion and understanding coming from the mainstream media and a lot of judicial/investigative restraint being exercised by the courts and the police.
For the most part, everyone is conducting themselves in the proper fashion.
Britt Reid, a drug addict who pulled a gun on a motorist, was sentenced to 8-23 months and can apply for a special drug-counseling program in five months. Garrett Reid, a drug addict and dealer, was sentenced to 2-23 months and will apply for a special drug-counseling program.
It's time for Andy Reid to forget about the Eagles and focus on his family. (Rusty Kennedy / Associated Press)
Before I go further, let me repeat that the authorities have treated the Reids appropriately, including the judge who put the Reids on blast, comparing their home to a "drug emporium."
But I do want to spell out how this would have been handled differently by the authorities and interpreted differently by the media and the public had this been your typical ghetto tale involving poor black, brown or white people or black and brown people of any income level.
No one — and I mean no one — would believe these boys could be using, dealing and housing drugs and guns without the knowledge of their parents. I don't care how big the house is, parents know what's going on. My mother could be dead asleep in her bedroom, worn out from working overtime, and tell me exactly what I was doing in the living room.
Only the uninformed, butt-kissing media members or delusional Eagles fans believe any of this transpired without Andy and Tammy Reid knowing. The judge didn't buy it. That's why he was critical. I credit the judge for talking to the Reids the same way he would D'Angelo Barksdale's mama, Brianna (the final season of The Wire starts in January).
If this was a ghetto tale, police would look at Tammy Reid the same as Brianna Barksdale, as a silent co-conspirator or possible user. Garrett Reid would have to squeal on his suppliers or participate in a sting. He certainly wouldn't be viewed as salvageable. He'd be seen as a tool to make a bigger case.
Garrett Reid's admittance that he's a drug dealer and the fact that large quantities of drugs and weapons were found at the Reid home would make their house subject to seizure by the state. The Reids would be targets, not victims.
But let me tell you what's most troubling about all of this: Andy Reid's cowardice and the fact that we're letting him get away with it.
We, the media, particularly black members of the media, are always crying when athletes won't speak out on important issues. We want 22-year-old LeBron James to have a position on Darfur, a place he's probably never been. We scolded Michael Jordan for not having a social conscience. We're mad Tiger Woods won't lend his name to the plight of six black cowards who stomped and kicked one white boy in Louisiana.
But white sports figures aren't required to have a social conscience. They can satisfy themselves chasing supermodels and filming cute commercials.
America's morally bankrupt war on drugs, a cause that has killed and destroyed more lives than Vietnam and Iraq combined, has finally put Andy Reid's kids on the front lines (incarceration), and Andy Reid doesn't have a damn meaningful thing to say about it.
That's unacceptable. It's cowardly.
Andy Reid knows my pain, and he's too worried about a freaking football game to verbalize it. He could make Middle America and the power structure understand the helplessness and the pain you feel when people you love get caught up in America's political ploy called a "war on drugs."
Yeah, Andy has the money and clout to make sure his kids get treated with a little bit of compassion. He needs to spend time talking with his boys and let them inform him how the poor get run over by the system and institutionalized. He needs to talk with Garrett Reid about how kids, especially kids with fathers who spend too much time away from their families, get swept up in pop culture's glorification of drug dealers and criminals.
"I liked being the rich kid in that area and having my own high-status life," Garrett Reid told a probation officer, according to reporters covering his court proceedings. "I could go anywhere in the 'hood. They all knew who I was. I enjoyed it. I liked being a drug dealer ... These kids were scared of me. I was even selling to their parents."
It's shameful that Andy Reid is still coaching the Eagles. With his acquired wealth and impeccable coaching reputation, he could step away from football for two or three years, focus on his family and walk right back into a top coaching job.
Hmm. Maybe tales from the neighborhood are just as dysfunctional as tales from the 'hood.

I agree with the article for the most part.
Facts are facts.
Now, it may be worse for Lewis cos his home could be accused of being like his lockerroom- undisciplined.
OR
Reid should be gettin MORE shiat cos he is such a stickler for character- no swearing in the room (guns at home? thats ok.)
I think they've gotten a HUGE pass on all this and especially the mother.
Has anyone heard that one of the guns confiscated was in HER NAME!?!?!?
I swear I heard that somewhere last nite as I was half asleep with ESPN or CSN on....

I you are a drug addict, that is your problem.
If you are a drug dealer, that is a community problem.
