F-d, all you have to do is watch Bill on the sidelines to tell. Is he still wearing gray hoodies, or has he stepped up his game to Michael Irvin chinchilla furs and panda-skin shoes?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's true he does seem to be the most cocky stubborn coach in the NFL (thats saying a lot considering we have Reid) I wouldn't put it passed him he does act as if he is untouchable...

On a side note I had a funny (in a Philly way) thought... What if he continues to coach that way leaving Brady in there in almost the exact situation next week, BUT Brady gets hurt and is out for weeks or better yet the season... We all know what happens then, the Pats with all their talent go on a losing streak to end all streaks, because hoodie isn't taking advantage of these leads to get Brady's back-up experience... I didn't even know who he was until I saw the highlights and they said he came into the game and threw an INT... I still can't remember his name...

My thought is simple:

Why don't any of these teams get pissed at this showboating and take a whack at Brady? It wouldn't be hard to get a shot in with a simple roughing the passer penalty.

A perfect candidate for this would be the Eagles, who will be long out of the playoff chase and will likely be losing to the Pats 72-0. Of course, this team of talentless character guys would never do something like this.

If only Buddy were here, this season would still be interesting...

Probably because that would open the floodgates for NE to tee off on McNabb.

Oh wait....

If McNabb gets hurt, Reid gets to play his precious Kolb, and gets a free pass from apologists like Rich Hoffman.

By the way, I wonder how many Mondays in a row Rich Hoffman will keep writing these "it's not over yet, but it's getting close" columns.

I think Hoffman has reasonably critical this year.

F-dallas,

You can't be serious. Have you seen Hoffman on some of the football shows lately. He is one of the buffooons actually ok with the pass happy offense of Reid. He thinks the amount they pass is on par with the rest of the league.

I don't watch those TV appearances anymore, but his articles have been critical.

Not "Eckel" critical, but reasonably critical.

"Hourglass quickly running out on an era" (after the Bears)

"Linebackers need to turnover a new leaf" (saying the defense has become softer and softer as the Ray Rhodes holdovers fade away)

"Passing game has to improve"

"Without Westbrook, Birds have no chance"

"It's not over, but it won't be pretty" (when they were 0-2)

I don't mind Hofmann, but I feel like he's kind of told the story as it has unfolded over the past few years.

But some of the stuff he's written hasn't been critical more than obvious. Even Spuds can throw some daggers from time to time.

His indictments have mirrored Spuds, in that the coach is seemingly off limits. Most of the problems here are rooted within the head coach, but he focuses on the branches instead.

I disagree. His most recent article brought up the fact that they have no game-changers, pointed out the fact that when this team was winning the other teams in the divison sucked, etc.

What's the guy supposed to say?

He's been largely positive over the last 7 or so years, but the Eagles have only missed the playoffs once...not much to bitch about unless you want to look like an idiot every year (ie Eckel).

I've said it during this entire run, but there is a fine line between a "homer" or "Lapdog" and a "realist" or "darksider".

Tattoo (no offense to Tat) is a registered homer. His pre-season predictions have been far more accurate over the last 7 years than any darksider on this board.

That's what I'm saying...Hofmann being mostly positive and supportive of Reid/McNabb over the past few years has been a product of them mostly deserving little criticism during that time.

Hell, burying them now, as a writer, is still a bad idea if you care about your credibility.

This piece by Gregg Easterbook is relevant here for two reasons:

1) He does a great job of painting Indy vs. NE as a battle of Good vs. Evil.

2) Much further down in his column, he makes mention of the point spread of the NE-MIA game.

Bullshit......Manning was in the shot gun with less than 4 mintues remaining and a 15 point lead. Fuck that article. Fuck Manning and his antics as QB (flapping wings, throwing his offensive line under the bus for the fiasco a couple of years ago against Pittsburgh when HE was calling the plays). I like Dungy, and I definitely consider him a class act. Bellecheat is an asshole, so is Brady, Bruschi, etc.

Both teams are annoying. Manning really needs 5-6 TD passes per game to beat teams handily? What the eff EVER.

I just don't see that EITHER team deserves respect. Dungy nonwithstanding.

In contrast to the Patriots, for the multiple reasons Easterbrook cited, the Colts look like God's team. The Patriots are clearly the spawn of Satan.

Nothing but hype.

Some of his reasons are speculation (Manning's charitable giving, while Brady's goes unmentioned - not as if athletes haven't given anonymously before; and Manning's "family life" compared to Brady's), but it's just typical ESPN hype.

Easterbrook used to be better than this. And let's not forget Manning running up the score years ago to get the TD record.

Tattoo (no offense to Tat) is a registered homer. His pre-season predictions have been far more accurate over the last 7 years than any darksider on this board

none taken, I love the Eagles and even though I can see the faults of Reid and the team they have been very entertaining over the last 7-8 years, even when they are losing(for the most part) BUT I don't get all pissy or down in the dumps when they lose it's a game that I have nothing to do with and no control over the outcome... So I see no reason to "be a fan" and hate on a team that has been a consistant winner... Nobody is perfect and IMO I believe it is time for a coaching change in Philly, not because I think Reid is finished as a coach (I think he's got years to go) but I think he needs a fresh start build from scratch somewhere else...

Now onto the two best teams in football... I would like to see both Brady and Manning get hurt(nothing too serious) out 2-3 weeks (and both get hurt late in the 4th with the games well in hand), knocking their teams down a peg or two... since neither has a decent back-up they would most likely lose those games.

Never let it be said that Lurie and the Linc were able to change the way a Philly fan thinks or what we cheer for...

I actually looked at the game log for this Miami thing finally. They were up 21 when Brady was put back in, not 10 or 14, so that makes it even worse.

It was definitely a 14 point lead when they put Brady back in.

That team really is disgusting, though. I think Bill is now covering his tracks for padding scores by applying the same insane principles standard blowouts now.

He went for it on 4th down TWICE yesterday with a 40+ point lead.

That's weird...NFL.com's play by play had the 3rd quarter ending with the score 42-14, but it was actually 42-7.
