Seems like Welker would've been a better fit than Curtis, but he's helped by having two #1s lining up.
With the way McNabb had not been throwing to Brown, you'd think they had some petty disagreement or something. But there were some positives -
- The defense adjusted to Jones in the 2nd half. Granted, they were playing against the weakest arm this side of the Mississippi (and those last 2 Jets' calls were absolutely brutal), but still.
- Westbrook's physicality, lowering the shoulder on Vilma and stiffing another guy.
- McNabb played a statistically good game, though his stats are misleading.
- Another Kearse sighting! Had a sack and a Mamula.
- Brown played quite well, especially on the 4th down play.
Now we can prepare for the barrage of "McNabb to Chicago?" rumors for this week.

Oh, and as much as we rip Reid, there were some BRUTAL calls this week:
- Wade's aforementioned mental block on 4th and goal.
- The Jets' mental block on 4th and 1 (and 3rd and 1, too - Jones has been running well against the Birds and they go to Pennington for one yard. Sums up the season nicely for them. J-E-T-S Just End The Season)
- Holmgren's BAD decision not to kick a field goal (compounded by Hasselback's horrible play on the drive prior) when the 'Hawks needed 11. You need a combination either way, so why not go for the (seemingly) sure thing than the score that has less chance of happening?

Pull McNabb?
He's played way worse than that. Weird to say that after a pretty solid performance yesterday. He missed Avant in the end zone, but it's not his fault that FB calls screen passes when they're on the 8 yard line.
I blame the red zone playcalling more than 5. Thought he had time and threw the ball pretty well, was 9 of 16 on third down, and moved the chains all day.
They played a shitty team, but still no reason to pull him for what he did yesterday.

I have never been so frustrated watching an Eagles win. Up 2 scores in the 4th quarter inside their own 10 and they STILL won't fucking run the ball.
1st series: 4 yard run, sack, INT.
Then, after miraculously only giving up a FG...
2nd series: Run, incomplete, complete but short, punt.
2 - 3 and outs, less than 3 minutes killed.
If the Jets weren't absolutely horrendous, this would have been yet another game lost on asinine play calling. The Eagles are 2nd in the league in average yards per carry. 2ND IN THE LEAGUE!! AVERAGING 5 YARDS PER CARRY!! How fucking stupid/stubborn do you have to be to not run the ball more???
Discounting the last drive where he FINALLY ran, for the game they were over 62% pass plays. Again.
I honestly do not enjoy watching this team play on offense, which is a shame because the D is having a great year.

Is there a game where FB hasn't opened it up with a PA pass? Seriously you don't fool any one with that call when you do it EVERY game and not establish the run first.
Just stupifying playcalling.

why are the announcers pushing Brown's 2-3 catches as huge?!?
I noticed that as well.
Hey, when you're an AAA talent like Matt Vasgersian, you don't have time for a lot of research. Especially with your full plate announcing for the International World Championships of /Rock Paper Scissors. Seriously, didn't this guy used to host American Gladiators a few decades ago?
Hard top blame Fox for assigning this game to it's E-Team crew, really.

Yeah, I had no idea who that guy was, and was surprised he got teamed up with Moose (who I like) and Goose (who needs a muzzle).

FD, you might have a point about Phillips being 'along for the ride' since Jason Garrett was JJ's first coaching hire. I can see why you'd see it that way since he tends to let his assistants do all the work on game day (unlike Belichek, who appeared to coach his ass off today).
Wade was brought in to tweak & further develop the 3-4 defense but he certainly comes off 'country-hick' like in his demeanor and speech, making him appear a bit 'slow'.
He might very well be just another front man for JJ, but I think he's a bit more involved (as much as possible in a JJ regime) than you might think. Whether it's him or his assistants doesn't matter to me, they're doing a great job with this bunch.
Either way, it's safe to say that a lot of us down here are hoping Jason Garrett continues to develop for a few years and then inherits the position.
He reminds me of Charlie Manual a little bit...I totally see that in him.
I just get sick of seeing him on the sideline shots. He's never doing anything, his headset is usually not completely on, and he just seems to be a "fan" on the sideline. His confused/disappointed face and his happy/baby retard smile when things go well are like nails on a chalkboard to me for some reason.
Garret does appear to be an up and comer, though. You can't really argue with 5-1, but he seems like more of a head coach than Phillips just by looking at the two.
One looks like he's running a team and one looks like his "make-a-wish" was a sideline pass for the Cowboys games this year.

What's the ratio when you include that last drive? Taking it out and complaining about the pass:run ratio is invalid. It's like saying that the Eagles would have tied if it weren't for that long pass to Curtis. True on its face but muddies the argument.

I did the math using the "Game Center" at NFL.com. It was a 55% pass:run ratio, which is a little more palatable.

Uber, I discounted the last drive because by then the Jets were out of time outs - game was over. Fact of the matter is, the way the offense is performing they should be running more than passing. But Fat Boy would rather lose his way than win another way.

One more thing - before that last drive the Eagles called consecutive running plays exactly twice. Mind numbing.

The thing with the ratio is it isn't an exact science.
I don;t have a problem with throwing the ball 60% of the time or even 70% of the time in a game. As a system, that "goal" (and they are a 70% pass team or higher when you remove McNabb scrambles and count sacks as pass attempts) is retarded. It makes no sense.
If you have a matchup you want to exploit and throwing the ball 50 times in a game is the way to exploit that matchup, then go for it. Just don't set out to throw the ball 50 times every single game when you have one of the best running games in football.
Also, FB, stop pretending there is such a thing as "passing to setup the run". It's a retarded notion.

Westbrook - 5.8 Yards per carry
Buck - 5.4 yards per carry.
If you take out McNabb's runs this season which are almost all called passing plays they are averaging over 5 1/2 yards per rushing attempt.
Fuck this "system", run the ball.

These are the things that frustrate me the most. That, and the need to have at least 2 mormons on the team at all times.
Only time you need two mormons with you is when you go fishing. If you only take one, he'll drink all your beer.

One more positive - Reid just said that Reno Mahe's big return brought them in a position to score.

I just wonder how the Jets managed to NOT get 10 sacks in that game. Winston Justice didn't make that big a difference according to Mike Ditka (on Mike and Mike in the Morning) and according to the 'team' press.
