Almost forgot-
FAILURE: Failure to manage the most explosive WR we ever had and in the process, the best chance the Eagles had in my lifetime to win the Super Bowl
I'll never forgive him for that

Again... for a coach who loves to throw the ball, he has failed here too.
That's the irony of it all.
The guy believes the running game is some kind of antiquated way to move the football, swears it off entirely, and manages to BUST every WR and TE pick...only to hit the powerball on a running back.
His solution? Throw it to the running back 14 times per game.
It's almost impossible to believe, but with one of the highest pass ratios in the history of the NFL, he still hasn't produced a 1,000 yard WR (minus Owens in year one) or a 4,000 yard passer.
Mike Martz had Jon Kitna for 6 months and he tossed 4 dimes.
Norv Turner cranked 1,000 yards out of Rod Gardner.
That's an embarrassing, awful tack record. Terrible.

What that tells you is he doesn't have much flexibility in his approach, and IMO, is nothing more than a Walsh system guy (not his own guy). In other words, he a very good assistant.

The whole thing is so strange. Reid probably wasn't ever truly qualified to run an offense or be a head coach, but he won a lot of games primarily with and inherited defense and McNabb's legs.
Fuck it...I just hate the guy.

550 sorry, We're happy with our ratio of delivered emails,
but we can do a better job there. This one is on me, Qmail,
but we all have a piece of the pie. Apache would probably
like to have a few processes back. MySQL probably could
have maintained that connection. I thought PHP did a good
job today, but PHP 5 will be ready next week. (#5.1.1)

Failure - taking the better part of 6 years to figure out an efficient way to get the play in to the QB.
Failure - not learning how to manage the gameclock.
Success - letting their own expensive FAs walk just before they reach the end of the line.
Success - turning a moribund marketing scheme and turning it into one of the best in the NFL.
Failure - alienating a good portion of a loyal fanbase due to condescension and secretiveness.

Whether it was out of cheapness or just plain stubbornness on Reid's part (or both) I think the biggest failure was waiting too long to give McNabb a receiver who was even half-decent.
They should have at least reached the Super Bowl one of the years between 2001-2003 and in all three of those years, you could point to that as the only real flaw in their team.
- McNabb was still young and mobile
- The backfield and Chad Lewis were solid, if not spectacular
- The offensive line was as good as it is today
- The defense was probably in the league's top three over that span. Dawkins, Trotter (that was another mistake letting him go), and Simon were still in their prime and Vincent, Taylor, & Douglas still had a lot left. In 2001, they had the best LB corps of the Reid era in Trotter, Caldwell, and Emmons (probably the most under appreciated defensive player of the Reid era).
I honestly believe if McNabb had something more to work with in that three-year span they would have had another shot at a ring.

You could be right about the receiver, but don't forget the role that injuries played.
McNabb hurt, Westbrook hurt, Buckhalter hurt, even in the New Orleans game last year, Shawn Anrews getting hurt.
It seems that most final runs were marked by an important player getting knocked out of the game.

Which brings up his biggest success. Making the playoffs after everyone has given up the team for dead.
Reid has more miraculous season recoveries than any other coach I can think of.
