It was also noted that the gf and mother weren't allowed to leave the police station.
Adds more to the thought of it possibly being a mob hit.

Mob hit? I'm thinking something more along the lines of "disrespect".

I dont know about a hit. But he had a lot of guys around him in and from gangs, he had guys jealous of his wealth and fame and lastly he had several run-ins with people that he thought stole stuff from him(a car in 05, ATV's). If it were just a plain robbery, what robber you ever heard of worth his salt hits the same place multiple times within a short time span?
There is definitely more to this story.

Somehow, someway the DTC has to be behind this. Some mean mutha's in that group. Out of respect to Taylor every Deadskin fan should wear his jersey backwards this week.

Which is what I just never understand about these situations. JUST REMOVE YOURSELF ALTOGETHER. Why buy a damn house in Miami, buy one in McClean, Va. Or would they just lose too much street cred?

FD, whatever it was, someone was sending him a message - breaking in the 1st time and placing a knife near his bed, not taking anything, circumventing "security"...
I doubt we'll ever hear the truth as to why it/what happened.

If that's what happened previously, then Taylor was dumb for not taking more precautions. Even if you can't own a gun, I think I'd do more than just put a machete near my bed.

even beyond not owning a home in Miami, if someone were leaving you messages (knife in the bed, several break-ins in a short span, atc.), would still be sleeping in that house with your family? he had the means to move to another place. anyplace, why stay in that house. I do not have the means to buy another home, but you can be sure I would be elsewhere.
It is ashame. It has to be excruciating on his girlfriend. Especially as someone else stated, you can bet words were spoken to her before the invaders fled. His family has my sympathy.

Apparently the cutting of phone lines is normal now during burglaries, since many alarm systems run through there

It seems that this was a hit. Apparently Taylor locked the bedroom door and the intruder kicked it in, shot him and left. A burglar wouldn't do that.

Again- anybody can own an alarm. We're talking a multi-millionaire with access (if desired) to fighting dogs, electrified croc-filled moats and a personal army of Cuban and Haitian immigrants. You gotta think in terms of Vice City- the guy only had a run of the mill alarm and a machete?

F_B, Croc-Filled, electrified moats are much more effective at keeping undesireables confined to certain areas than they are at protecting small patches of personal real estate.
Just sayin'.

GGB pointed this out, but I found it post worthy here:
Wilbon on Sean Taylor:
McLean, Va.: Will your opinion of Taylor change if this does not turn out to be a random incident (e.g. home invasion)?
Michael Wilbon: No...People's opinions are shaped by the way they've grown up, the way they see the world, what they know about the world the person in question grew up in, etc. Sean Taylor isn't the only guy I know who fits his general profile. I've known guys like Taylor all my life, grew up with some. They still have shades of gray and shouldn't be painted in black and white...I know how I feel about Taylor, and this latest news isn't surprising in the least, not to me. Whether this incident is or isn't random, Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it. He ain't the first and won't be the last. We have no idea what happened, or if what we know now will be revised later. It's sad, yes, but hardly surprising.
Columbia, Md.: What makes you think that Taylor was still embracing his old ways? Every thing we have heard from the Redskins and Portis is that this is a new Sean. Apparently the birth of his child really helped to straighten him out. Is this contrary to what you know?
Michael Wilbon: Sorry, but I'n not in the habit of having comapanies with their own public relations agenda tell me about black men and what they feel or don't feel. Pardon me if I'm not that easy.

What's the death toll at The U in the last 20 years or so? Jerome, that linebacker that got shot outside his apartment (that case ever solved?), now Taylor. Am I missing any?

Google
"Police searched for clues Wednesday in the killing of University of Miami lineman Bryan Pata, the shooting marking the team's fourth death in the last decade...
This was at least the fourth time that tragedy involving a player has struck the Hurricanes in recent years.
In April 1996, reserve linebacker and Miami native Marlin Barnes was murdered in a campus apartment. And in 2003, former Miami safety Al Blades was killed in a car accident, about a year after former Miami linebacker Chris Campbell — who had just completed his eligibility with the Hurricanes — also died in a crash.
In July, reserve safety Willie Cooper was shot in the buttocks when confronted in his yard before morning workout. Cooper was not seriously injured. Brandon Meriweather, one of Cooper's teammates and roommates, returned fire at Cooper's assailant, taking three shots that apparently missed, police said."
