EAGLES PUT HIGH PRICE ON McNABB
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Philadelphia Eagles were contacted before the trade deadline regarding the availability of quarterback Donovan McNabb.
And the requested price was not one, not two, but three first-round draft picks.
Whether the price remains that high after the 2007 season remains to be seen. If it is, McNabb won't be traded.
Our guess is that the Eagles are aiming high in the hopes of getting the most they can. And, as the PFTV guys discuss below, the Eagles can't afford to appear interested in moving McNabb, or they'll have no leverage.
The smartest move for the Eagles, in our view, is to auction him off in the offseason, and to take the best deal they can get.

They won't be asking for 3 1st rounders after the season. And if they are, then they're nuts.

No, of COURSE they wont.
They did it intentionally because at least for this yr- they WANT to keep him and didnt wanna mail in the yr (tho they play better with seemingly ANYONE in there besides 5).

Has a pro-bowl caliber QB ever been traded at the deadline before? Just curious.

Not that I can remember.
Smart move on the Eagles part, but if they they act too aloof (I know...tough to imagine), they'll cross the line from aiming high and will alienate suitors.

PFT says it all. There is no way anybody would give 3 first round picks for him, let alone 1. Not even the Raiders!!

YEAH MAN!
Don't you GET IT MAN?
They had no desire to move McNabb durin the season- hence the outrageous demand.
They'll get a good pick for him, a 1st would do it, if its high enuff (Vikes?)

I see no better then a 3rd or a 4th for him. I think a 3rd is even pushing it.

They won't deal him for a 3rd.
I think a low 1 is possible, but a 2nd and 3rd (or something like that) is more likely).

I just can't see a pick that high for someone that hasn't completed a season in how long? He isn't getting any younger either.

Eagles will not keep him for that salary, so he is gone.

He's due roughly $6 million in salary and roughly $3 million in prorated bonus.
He's due a total of roughly $6 million in total prorated bonus on his agreement, so trading/releasing him will cost about $6 million and keeping him will cost $9 million.
They aren't going to release him or give him away to save $3 million when they aren't close to the cap anyway.

A first might not be doable, but I think a combination of lower picks is probably realistic.
It all depends. The guy is mostly healthy now (nothing serious) and the second year off the ACL should be better.
It will come down to who wants him and what they think of him. If a team is close (to the playoffs or championship) and one of them believes McNabb is the missing piece, they'll give something up for him.
Chiefs? Vikes? Bears? A team like that might be interested.

If he's not the starter, you really think they'll keep him here as a backup? I just can't see that happening, especially if they can get something for him and save money.

Supah 5 goes to the vikes for sure (IMO). Childress likes him, and the vikes had a nice run some years back with another "washed up" philly QB.

I'm saying he'll be the starter next year if they can't move him for anything.

Even the Ravens would have to roll the dice and throw their hat in the ring if/when Donnie Mac is available.

Another team that should be on the McNabb watch is the Falcons.
Blank would love to have the PR move of bringing in a big time QB, who just happens to be AA, and a pretty good human being(even thought his QB abilities are questionable).

You could be right, but his future here is increasingly in doubt, week by week. Next 5 games should clear up the picture a bit.

I don't think they'll just see if they can get something, and then make a decision. I think he's out, period. Something will be worked out that they're content with. They should have more than a couple suitors, as there are many teams with some horrible QB's out there

I don't think they've firmly made the decision that he's out quite yet, but I agree that if they think it's time to move on at QB, then you better move on. You don't keep a guy starting at that job just because you can't get anything for him, if you think there's a better option available.
