2 Westbrook runs = 2 straight first downs. Time for 3 straight blown passing plays?

5 straight running plays? What happened? (although I don't like the Westbrook into the pile type of runs for him)

McNabb has had absolutely NOTHING to work with downfield today. THE WR corps needs to give back their paychecks for this game.

McNabb STILL can't throw the damn ball away! He has to know that his receivers suck and won't get open, just throw it the eff away!

FG attempt time because the Eagles offense got away from what was working, but at least they were moving.

On a side note, I really dislike the uneasy feeling I get every single time Akers lines up for a FG anymore.

And on another positive note, the Eagles offense never really got into the official "redzone" on that drive, so their failure to score a TD happened from farther away.

Wow, the Birds just caught a HUGE break after two plays of sloppy-ass tackling. The Giants should be driving the nail into the coffin but instead Jacobs fumbles.

I am sick of hearing about "this is the play that saved the Eagles season" shtick too. The Eagles suck right now, and the rest of the season should be an audition for everyone's jobs - from players to coaches.

Here goes the biggest play in the Eagles season on a 4th down, the Eagles down by 3, from the Giants 44. I would just punt to send a message to the GM that the Eagles need better players...oh, wait...

Now there should only be the talk of how the Eagles are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs following this, and then let the auditions begin.

Hell, switch everyone around. Let Segrest take a shot at calling the personnel decisions, have Johnson coach up Kolb, and let's see what Culley can do with the OC position. Just do it.

Here we go again. Hope springs eternal with Merrill and Quick I guess, but damn - just let it go.

89 yards for this team in less than a minute with no time outs?

At least Detroit lost, eh Merrill? The road to the NFCCG went through Philadelphia alright. 2-5 at home is attrocious, and there is plenty of blame to go around.

Reid - has no concept of clock management when it matters. Calls the most baffling plays at crucial times, and apparently has no clue about the type of personnel it takes to run his system.

Johnson - Still cannot stop any single facet of the game without blitzing. His preferred small, fast defensive players play small and gassed when the game hits the 4th quarter.

Rookies abound at several key positions. They may be coming around, but for as good as the Eagles were (record wise) for so many years, and for as many shrewd personnel moves as they have made over the years, there is no excuse for them having that many on the field at any point this season.

McNabb - I really think he is a decent QB at times, but then he proves me wrong when he makes rookie QB mistakes. (holding the ball too long, happy feet, too "excited" at the start of games, etc.)

WR - These guys suck, again. This effed up offense Reid keeps preaching needs to have receivers that can run crisp routes and get open quickly. Not going to happen with this group.

...there is a lot more, but it's all been covered ad nauseum on this board before.

Welcome to the offseason indeed.

What can be said that hasn't already been said.

First, I'd like to thank God for this loss. I'm happy they got one step closer to a decent draft pick next year. Also, a big thanks to the Refs, who helped my dreams come true with a number of extremely good calls for the G-men.

All said and done, it comes back to the play calling for me. No one played great and nobody played really poorly (other than Lito/Sheldon when they were attempting to cover a WR with one leg.

The real play calling (sneaks don't count as runs, sacks count as passes, QB scrambles count as passes, etc.) for the game was:

34 Passes 59%
24 Runs 41%

On the surface, you'd think they did a good job because throwing 59% of the time really isn't all that bad (especially for these guys who routinely throw 70% of the time).

Ah, but some of the worst play calling selection I've seen helped make it extremely easy for the Giants to key on one thing and go at it.

For instance, on the first drive, the Eagles called 3 passes, 3 runs, and scored. Granted they had to execute those plays, but how much sense does that make? If you're calling passes and runs about the same am9ount of time, the defense can never really pin their ears back and sell out pass. They also can't cheat closer to the line and sell out run. These are things they teach in pee-wee by the way and the fundamental building blocks of offense.

They followed that drive up with a 30 yard drive that finished just outside of field goal range. In that drive, they threw the ball just 2 times and ran 4.

After that drive, for the next 35 MINUTES OF GAME CLOCK lasting through the remainder of the 1st quarter, the entire second quarter, and the entire third quarter, Marty/Andy dialed up:

Passes: 19
Runs: 4

There was a stretch during that point where they had called it 14-2 with both runs in back to back snaps, as well.

How on earth are you supposed to keep a defense balanced when you make yourself one dimensional?

Keep in mind they were winning for most of that time and never trailed by more than 6 points.

Even better, they obviously realized what they had done (forgetting to run). My guess is because the offensive line and Westbrook said "what the fuck!" to the coach after several stalled, historically pass heavy drives.

Starting with the last snap in the 3rd quarter through the last meaningful drive, they called:

Passes: 5
Runs: 12

It's just painful to watch these guys attempt to run a professional offense when they are obviously so inept at it.

I'm just glad they are continuing to suck because I'm hoping for the losses to pile up, to get a look at what Kolb might be, and hopefully shame Reid into resigning.

Today I learned that Reggie Brown is mentally retarded.* It was fascinating to watch him run backwards, away from the first down marker. At first, I thought it was a fluke, but then he did it again. I especially enjoyed it when he did this with no one in front of him.

* - If any Levellers are mentally retarded, please do not be offended that I have associated you with Reggie Brown.

He actually ran SIDEWAYS it seemed, on both the plays in question you cited.

This team stinks and needs all the help they can get by way of the draft next yr.

f-d, well done. Looking at the sportsline.com play-by-play, also note that not one of those completed passes was for 20+ yards. Lewis threw the ball farther downfield on one play than the 30 McKnob threw.

5 is done. Finished. Kaput. Trade him for a bag of rocks if you must, but he's through. 20-30 for 179 yards are stats you see for Ryan Leaf in his second start.

My only question is, have they dumbed it down because of him, or because of the fact that the WRs suck, or because they're too stupid to know that they're dumbing it down? But the lack of any big play capability is absolutely ridiculous!

The problem is McNabb, the problem is their refusal to recognize the importance of difference making players, and their problem is the system.

This offense would work as is (with the players they have) if they decided to run the ball. If they keep the offense balanced, McNabb would look better, the WRs would look better, and the team would win more games.

However, if you;re going to come out firing each and every week with average WRs and no commitment to the ground game, you're going to lose unless you have superior pass game talent.

Reggie Brown is a #2 or slot. I thought he might have had a higher ceiling and maybe he still does, but it seems like he's regressed.

Curtis is a good player (probably better than Brown), but he's not a number 1. No one considers double covering him and he hasn;t been the deep threat or YAC guy they envisioned (though no one else but them envisioned that in him).

I think he'd be a light-out #2 or a great slot WR, but this group of WRs is still looking for a #1 to take the double coverage, give the other guys opportunities, and create plays by himself.

At QB, McNabb is now an average player. He can't make chicken salad with chicken shit any more because his athleticism is diminished and he's too afraid of the turnover. They need to either adjust the offense to win with what they have or change the elements that make up that offense drastically.

Continuing down this road without wholesale changes would be incredibly foolish.

They need to either adjust the offense to win with what they have or change the elements that make up that offense drastically.

And you know both aren't going to happen. The system is designed for ordinary schmos to perform well (which they haven't), the playcalling ignores the obvious until it's too late to matter, and changing the personnel makes it seem that they're admitting that they made a mistake, which is even less likely to happen than them actually making a change.

Banner came out and said that he's proud that he's paying for for the WRs here than NE is for theirs. That's just criminal.
