I'm all for trading McNabb after this season, but that's not going to change much.
Kolb/Feeley aren't going to change the design of the offense or make Brown/Curtis/Schoboat look like Moss/Stallworth/Watson.

Time for a regime change. That mirage of a playoff run last year allowed this team to continue on its downward spiral since the Superbowl. Look at the moves and attitude of the teams (Pats/Eagles) since that Superbowl a few years ago.

From the way the FO has been gushing about Kolb, you'd think he was ready to start tomorrow.
One has to wonder if we'll see Kolb in Dallas. I think they'll keep it close (for pride's sake), but let's all brace ourselves for another "McNabb's losing" injury.

No offense to Kolb and I hope I am incorrect. But I have a eerie feeling that they overvalue Kolb. At this point its trial by fire- send him in and let him take his lumps like Aikman did. Get him use to Celek or draft a TE and see whats he got.

These guys? Overestimate the ability of a precious they drafted with no real proof or reasoning?
Preposterous.

Beat me to it f-d. Only way it could be better is if he sat out most of his senior season with an injury. That way you add in a Phils/Gillick slant to it.

If you're looking for hope to the Kolb situation, there are some positives to look at:
1) He started the most games of QB's drafted that year, which is a good indicator of NFL success
2) Football Outsiders like him, they're pretty good about their picks

I don't think it's a guarantee Kolb would suck, but it also wouldn't floor me if the Eagles blew the pick given their penchant for bad scouting and terrible second round picks over the years.

Anybody catch FB's PC? I thought I heard him getting ripped for saying they're still in striking distance. Striking distance for what?

On the Kolb being a QB or bust, he will be a very good QB... AE was talking to me about it and a site he belongs to (stats.com or something, I'll get the name from him and post it later)
The long and short of it, the site is a solid one (by his account) they wanted to find out if there was a way to tell by stats if there is a way to determine if a QB will be a bust or not looking back at previously drafted QB's... What they came up with was logical and a pretty solid theory. IF the QB started more than two full years as QB in college and had 70% completion's he would most likely go on to be a solid to good QB... BUT the QB's that came out and had FLASHY seasons (see Ryan Leaf, Akli Smith, Jamarcus Russell) they tend to not only be busts BUT also set the respective franchise backs years...
They concede that there are always exceptions see the Bitch in N.E. but off the top of my head I can name a few that came out and met those standards, McNabb, Peyton Manning, Eli's comp% wasn't as high as his brother, Jason Campbell still young but IMO he will continue to improve)
Like I said it's just a model that could lead to a better idea of what type QB to draft, but like anything else it is not a perfect system and like the name of the site stats.com, STATS they can be used to prove anything, I'm sure Reid could find some bizzarre stat to prove that this team is still in striking distance...

Me neither, but this isn't a LB here that they picked out of nowhere. It's a good prospect that many were high on, not just the Eagles trying to outsmart the league.
I just said there's reason for hope, not that I think they should reserve his spot in Canton

I understand. I like Kolb from what I've seen of him.
The 2nd round just seems to have bad mojo.
The best 2nd rounder they've taken is probably Sheldon Brown.

Again, I think QB is different, and the fact that others were high on Kolb makes it a different situation. Despite what they say, I have a hard time believing the Pats were crying after McCoy was taken.

It isn't just LBs they whiffed on in the 2nd round (though they did blow 3 of those).
Pinkston...ugh. Bobbie Williams? Reggie Brown isn't a bust but he certainly is disappointing given he was the 33rd overall pick in that draft. Winston Justice was a 2nd round pick, started one game, and gave up a league record for sacks. Michael Lewis started out well and was eventually benched for Considine. Of course there were the high profile busts of McCoy, Gardner, and Caver.
Their draft record in the 2nd round is awful across the board.
That has nothing to do with Kolb, but you have to admit that round has been a wasteland for them

Yeah, but a lot of their drafts overall have blown.
Again, those are guys that there weren't many opinions on. That's why this is a different pick.
Obviously having many think he's good doesn't make it a slam dunk, but it's nice that others feel that Kolb will be a good player, rather than the other "outsmart everyone" picks, like i said before.

Some people definitely liked Kolb, but I didn't see a single mock draft out there that made him one of the top 35 players selected.
Again, I'm not questioning the pick. I'm just not trusting these assholes.

KB< where did "many" think he was good at that spot?
The most common reaction was shock, and he wasn't the best prospect on the board at that time.

It was shock that the Eagles took him, but during the draft he was projected as one of the top QB's.
If you read FO at all, they liked him, too. Scout.com had him as the 4th best QB in the draft, other sites had him at #2, etc.
Barry Gardner, Bobbie Williams, etc. were never considered the 4th best at their position when drafted.

And I'm not sure what we're arguing about, since I didn't say I trust them or anything like that. I said that there are two reasons to have a little hope about this pick. That's all. With a lot of the other picks, I never saw similar reason for having any faith whatsoever.
