Put it this way- what would Steve Smith do with McnotOnTarget throwing to him?

Steve Smith with McNabb? My guess (honestly) is career numbers.

Maybe not career...but I'd say 1,300 yards 10 TDs.

My guess is that he's a little bit overrated- but that's my opinion as well. Put the slightly overrated Smurf WR along with the slightly overrated QB, and the result isn't Pro Bowl. Mcnabb has trouble hitting 6'0 receivers, what makes you think he'd hit a 5'9 one? Maybe an OCCASIONAL deep ball, but the Eagles are one dimensional anyway, how long do you think before teams shut that down too?

B/c he throws low

Seriously, Smith has done almost as good as f-d's numbers with some average QB play

He throws low when he's trying to hit the center of the target. So what happens when he tries to throw low on purpose? Groundhogs scatter, that's what.

Didn't know where else to put this, but:

Greg Cosell was breaking down the film of Sunday's game and he said that part of the reason why the offense looked horrible between the first and last drives is because, simply, there was no one open. People are killing McNabb because he's afraid to pull the trigger, but it's either that or go the Feeley route.

The other point he made was that the CB play was just horrible. Plax couldn't run, and yet he was gashing Toasted Brown for tons of yards. Considering the CB play hasn't been good all year (Brown looks to have regressed, and Lito making it unscathed through a season would be his first), you'd think the FO would be looking into getting another CB.

Or we can all just blame it on Kingsford James.

We agree totally on what the F.O.'s likely opinion is regardin their LBs, FD.

OK so it's agreed, the Eagles will go after LB's with a vengance this off-season... When we think they go one way they go another, nobody thought they'd go 3 DB's in a draft considering the talent they had, but they did... So they go after LB's in FA and draft a couple and switch the a 3-4 D next year... Sounds about the way they play out the dis-info...

Seth on the CJ front, he is older BUT IMO that won't be an issue, his on field stuff might be a detraction but IF they are thinking of moving #5 next year they will go out and get him a #1 WR to throw to to inflate his trade value... He isn't a probl;em off the field like others and he wants out of Cincy so how about a trade straight up Lito for Chad, both teams egt help where they need it, then the Birds can draft another DB to step in or sign a FA, and for what it's worth there is no chance Samuel even sniffs around Philly... My early guess would be he goes out to KC and plays for Herm...

Great thread. Love reading the tea leaves.

Going back to the beginning of the thread. I've been actually surprised about all the speculation of giving up McNabb. Of course it is possible but it doesn't seem to match their habit of keeping injured players. To me, if McNabb goes, it is more likely because he would want to go. Because that would match the front office pattern of not wanting to be held over a barrel. No overpaying here. (Which, by the way, seems to be what they have done recently with Reggie Brown) (Exactly why do they have no cap space anyway?) So unless McNabb leaves I think they keep him.

About losing games to move up in the draft. I don't really see where ANY NFL team does that. I don't think the Jets or Miami or the Falcons are doing that are they? Are they putting in their new players to see how good they'll be when they lose their veterans? I think the Eagles keep on trying to put the best out there they can. (Besides players bonus' depend on playing and they get mad when their paychecks are affected).

About who they sign..This recent talk about needing playmakers...Seems to me like it's mostly Spadaro going out on a limb. I think he's actually a little ticked off at the team. But if there is some truth to it, I think perhaps it seems like it could mean a Special teams player. Devin Hester gets a lot of mention this year, and we all know what happened with our return game this year, so it seems like it might make sense to do a special teams upgrade. Also, given that the Eagles are statistically doing well in offensive and defensive rankings, and so many of the Eagles games have been close, maybe the analysis/blame might fall on special teams.

Also, since a lot of blame is falling on the defensive backs, it really seems like playmaker could wind up being a shutdown corner or safety.

I like the idea of a tight end or running back because to me it seems like wide receiver is unfortunately mostly sewn up with Curtis and Reggie Brown. The Eagles just don't typically give up on their mistakes that often. Since Westbrook is already used as a receiver anyway, another running back that can also be used a receiver or special teams returned seems like a very good fit with all the sound bites and analysis and that Westbrook is always cited as the only playmaker.

But enough rambling.

Well, with Bobby Petrino resigning from Atlanta and taking the Arkansas job, Atlanta becomes a new possible destination for Supah 5.

They need a QB as bad as you can possibly need one, there won't be one worth taking where they pick (unless someone rises fast), and Atlanta could use some positive news and a positive influence in their community.

He would seem like a natural fit, but I thought he was a bad fit for Pertino's offense. Depending on who gets the job down there, he may be the perfect for them.

The only thing worse are the ADs who worship them enough to hire them on the spot, not thinking that he could very well do the same thing to them.

What a joke.

Blank just had his franchise QB get 2 years in the clink, tons of bad pub and his coach just bailed ship while in a losing season. If there ever was a "scenario" Banner could reason on trading Supah 5 would be to the Dirty Birds. They have a great TE and fairly decent run game already. A new coach, new African American QB with great public persona could be the shot in the arm that franchise needs.

What picks do the Falcons have this year?

What if Blank comes to Banner with a #1 and Abraham or another defensive player? Does he take it?

Banner would be nuts NOT to. But it won't happen, because a #1 is too high a price to pay for 5. Especially since the #1 looks to be the #7 pick.

A second rounder for 5 straight up would probably do it.

According to SI.com's Peter King, the Eagles have just over $17 million in salary cap money next season, which is toward the bottom of the pack (22nd) in the NFL. I'm sure the Eagles can maneuver some things and free up some money, but the point is that this team isn't in a position to go out and outspend everybody in the league. However, if there is a player the Eagles think they have to have, they'll make a run at him. I just don't know what kind of quality players are going to hit the market. Teams have a lot of money to spend if they want to lock up their own players.

Dave Spadaro

It's starting already, Dave is backpedaling regarding his recent call for playmakers. Don't get too excited about the offseason, but instead, expect more of the same. Mediocrity at best.
The Eagles in 2008 will be expected, like every corporation, to: "Do more with less."

Is King's article taking into account the $ they'll save on Howard and Kearse being cut?

I read something last wk. that took all that into account as well as the cap going up, and it painted a totally opposite picture for what Philly will have to spend next yr in the offseason.

And whomever (hulk?) said a NO. 1 that will absolutely be in the top 10, MAYBE top 5, AND A PLAYER? NO SHOT.

NONE.

But that's my point - aside from the end result, was there ever a year where he seemed excited about FA prospects? This is the same guys who said that FAs are another team's garbage. (And I need that clip of Spuds after Randle-EL was signed to enhance my point)

My question was just has he ever had the fanbase rev the engines for the offseason before the end of the NFL season.

Petrino didn't address the team, but left them a dear john letter. Whatta guy:

Atlanta Falcons players;

Out of my respect for you, I am letting you know, with a heavy heart, I resigned today as the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons. This decision was not easy but was made in the best interest of me and my family. While my desire would have been to finish out what has been a difficult season for us all, circumstances did not allow me to do so. I appreciate your hard work and wish the best.

Sincerely,

Bobby Petrino
