I read a great article on how overrated Deangelo Hall is. I will find it

he def. has his nay-sayers, but the guy can play. Every time I have seen him play, he has been a SHUT DOWN corner with big play ability.

Hall comes up small in big games.

He's been buried behind quality starters, but what about Bryant Johnson, WR Cards? This was his last year under contract, can't see an article about an extension, and he's something of a local kid for PA (PSU grad, at least). In limited duty, he's done well. He's got the size and might be had for a song, which would warm the anthracite coal that is Banner's heart.

I know one play doesn't mean jack, so I'm trying to find the actual numbers on him. I wish I could remember who wrote it.

One thing I remember specifically is that last year, he was always assigned to the number 1 or 2 WR (obviously), and the Falcons were 30th and 32nd in the #1 or #2 WR getting yards/etc. against them.

Hall is overrated and a malcontent. Absolutely no shot of him coming here and frankly I dont want him. DRAFT a safety and corner and work those guys into the system. I would like to see someone who also can KR/PR so you kill too birds with one stone. This team would wait a year or two before starting a rookie on defense but they would have no qualms about playing them on special teams. Use one of those picks and get a established wide receiver.

Anyone else REALLY surprised at not letting Kolb play? To me, it was statement of Reid backing McNabb for a return next year. I know I'm probably reading more into it than I should, but....

I would be shocked if McNabb is not here next year. I still think he is way over rated and really want him gone , but....

SO who else would take the play of JR Reid at Saftey over Considine?

Can they PLEASE stop running the play action pass, as the first play every f'ing game?

Players that need to go:
Kearse
Howard
Rocca
Will James
Either 1 or 2 of the bottom WR's( which means they upgraded)
LJ SMith
McNabb-I just can't stand watching him play in green anymore
Considine
A.Jordan
Tony Hunt-to slow
Mahe
Pago
Kimo

I think the Cardinals would part with Boldin before Fitzgerald too.

Here's the story on Fitzgerald, whether it's all true or not.

He was reportedly being shopped before the last draft and they were close to reaching a deal with the Vikings.

Due to escalators he hit in his contract, he's due $15 million next year. He's got them over a barrel because they cannot afford him at that price and they don't want to make him the highest paid receiver in football knowing they have Boldin on the other side, too (who is also unhappy with his deal).

They are trying to re-sign Karlos Dansby (who wants mega-bucks) and they are trying to re-sign Calvin Pace, who exploded this year.

Adrian Wilson also just announced that he will he seeking a new deal. he has 2 years left on his, but in light of the contracts being signed by the elite safeties around the league, he's demanding an extension/raise.

Basically, the Cardinals are in a tough spot financially. if they deal Fitzgerald, all their problems are solved. If they keep him and cannot comes to terms on an extension before March, they'll be in trouble.

Even if they sign him to an extension, Boldin is going to ask for the same money.

Again, I have no idea what plans they have for Fitzgerald, but these are all the facts that have led to the speculation that Fitzgerald will be dealt (not given away mind you, but dealt).

Add another $1.5 for Fitzgerald: he counts for $16.5 nest year.

They plan on signing Pace and restrucuring Fitzgerald before March 1, then franchise Dansby.

They also might let James go

I live in Tucson (which unfortunately puts me in the "Cardinals market"), so I catch most of the stuff being said in the limited media coverage that the Cards are actually given.

Boldin has been given the "injury bug afflicted" tag in the media, and Fitzgerald is their darling. If you listen to some of the idiot sports announcers around here, it was Boldin's fault (injuries) that the Cards didn't make the playoffs. Not that it means much here in AZ as most of the population this time of year is snowbirds, but as I stated, the Cardinals are trying to keep their "fanbase" happy enough to keep going to the shiny new stadium. Fitzgerald is probably the second most popular player for the cards (if not first) among the "fans" in this area (behind Lienart). I would be utterly SHOCKED if they let Fitzgerald go, and I fully expect Boldin to be playing somewhere else soon.

A interesting new development has occured with the Ravens firing Billick. Does the new HC keep their crappy QB's or does he look to get a proven vet? Do they go for one in the draft?

I think Billick would have looked for a veteran like McNabb, but a new coach would probably be looking to start fresh.

You would think Troy Smith would be given a shot, right?

Also, if Billick isn't given another head coaching shot right away, I wouldn't be shocked if he was given an "Assistant Head Coach" job offer in Philly.

He and Reid are good friends and if it wouldn't offend Billick's pride, I'm sure Reid would be interested.

BTW, I doubt it will happen but I think it would hilarious if Parcells gave Jason Garret an offer he couldn't refuse to come coach the Dolphins.

I think he'll reward one of his old cronies instead, but that would be a great man-blast in the face of Jerry Jones.

That's interesting insight and something most of us don't get the opportunity to read/hear.

I'd be interested in either guy and I thought all the groundswell for Fitzgerald getting moved was odd given his age/production, but I figured he either hated Arizona or didn't mesh with the new coaching staff.

I was thinking that the new HC might want to bring in Mcnabb also for Troy Smith to learn from. Then get rid of Mcnair and Boller. You've got Heap, a decent running game and decent defense. The only thing they have been missing is a consistent QB.

The only problem with Garret going to the Fins is that Miami would surely have to give up some kind of compensation to be released by the Cowboys, right?

I don't think so. My understanding was no compensation would be due unless it was a lateral move, but a promotion would force Parcells to either swallow hard or offer Garrett the head coaching job in Dallas.

Merrill speaks his mind on the PE.com site

Alright, most of what Merrill Reese says is pretty much what I predicted to be the "state of the team" address so to speak. But this one statement alone makes me want to smash my monitor with a rock:

"I don't think the Eagles are far off. If Dallas is the standard in the NFC, certainly, the Eagles are right there. When they beat the Cowboys a few weeks ago, they not only beat Dallas, they dominated the trenches. They pushed Dallas back off the line of scrimmage on offense and on defense."

nice read, on the whole Franchse tag, this is from 2-21-06 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2006-02-21-franchise-tag_x.htm)
by position TE:

Tony Gonzalez, K.C. $4,831,370;
Kellen Winslow, Cle. $3,599,375;
Kyle Brady, Jack. $3,146,250;
Jeremy Shockey, N.Y. Giants $2,685,000; Alge Crumpler, Atl. $2,372,533;
Jim Kleinsasser, Minn. $2,350,000;
Eric Johnson, S.F. $2,200,000;
Jerame Tuman, Pitt. $2,142,500;
Bubba Franks, G.B. $2,050,000;
Todd Heap, Balt. $1,800,000

Franchise: $3,327,000

Transition: $2,718,000

That being said I really doubt it's gone up that much so to Fran LJ for 3-5 million is probably in the ball park, but personally not sure he's worth it...

anoth point someone brought up was Bryant Johnson from the cards, I would love to see the Eagles go after him IF the cards don't trade Fatz and resign him... The guys averaged 40 rec a year behind Boldin and Fitz, the majority of his catches have come when one of those two have been injured... he'd come kind of cheap but with a chip on his shoulder... But of couorse my first choice IF they went after a #1 WR would still be Chad Johnson...

looking at that TE salary list I would think Cooley would have a re-negotiated contract due his way. I would put him in the top 3. Especially after they win mulitiple superbowls (according to skins fans down here).

BTW...mark maske from the Post wrote today that gibbs should be NFL coach of the year. I guess 16-0 isn't quite good enough.

The Coach of the Year shouldn't have to know the league's rules.

Gibbs is above the rules.
