From today's Daily News:
Don't be shocked if Brian Billick, who was fired earlier this week as the Ravens' head coach, winds up as an offensive consultant on Andy Reid's staff. Billick and Reid are longtime friends. You might recall that Reid brought another pal, Marty Mornhinweg, on board after he was fired by the Lions 5 years ago.
Super.

This would be a wise move, especially for team morale;
A source has told Comcast SportsNet’s Derrick Gunn that Eagles management has approached Brian Westbrook and his agent, Fletcher Smith, about possibly restructuring the running back's contract.
Westbrook has three years remaining on a five-year extension that he signed in 2005. He is scheduled to earn $4.5 million ($3 million plus $1.5 roster bonus) next season, $3.5 million in 2009 and $4.5 million in 2010

But we don't need sideline help, we need the help on the field; If Billick is in then Morninwig myst be HISTORY! And given Billick's offensive performance this year, why would he be worth having?
No chance!

I seem to recall that last year when billick fired fassel and took over play calling that the ravens had a huge improvement in offensive production. I know this year was bad but maybe he would do well in an assistant roll.

Billick's teams have been average->horrible on offense, statistically.
But a possible scenario is Heckert goes to Atlanta and Billick comes on to help Reid in his daily duties, while Reid reassumes full control of personnel.
I'm somewhat curious as to what Jaws had to say on NBC10. They showed him saying the Eagles weren't good enough as-is.

Hopefully Billick is one of those guys that can run a system with the right players, but sucks at picking players (Boller) to run it.

I'm pretty sure Billick was behind Boller.
Regardless, for whatever reason, he's never had star players on his team, and pretty much had to change the way he ran an offense so compensate for no QB and only a pretty good running game.
Look at his teams in Minnesota

Wasn't it Billick's decision to keep trotting McNair out there, when just about everyone in the world (including McNair himself) knew he was done?

Billick co-wrote that book by Bill Walsh, didn't he? Years ago, Walsh put out a book about how to run the offense and how to build a franchise. It was practically a bible for a lot of teams. Maybe thy want to tap into what he knows/learned from Walsh.
What's that? They could just read the book?
Okay. I'm out of reasons to hire Billick.

I don't give a hoot if they bring in Brian, he couldn't hurt the team IMO only help, at least he RAN the ball...
MY worry is what is the deal with the Eagles going to Westbrook about his contract, since this team has never (at least to my knowledge) walked up to a player and said here's a blank check what do you want to make... Although maybe they should with #36 he is the team, are they actually trying to get him to lower his cap hit?!? I can think of several ways the Birds could do that simply cut Kearse, Howard, G Lewis that should save the tea 10-15 million next year...
Has there been any further word about what they were doing giving him an extension, just juggling numbers. or is this a non-story altogether...

Interesting read, nothing earth shattering but it does further back-up the story from the Daily News:
Also, don't be surprised if Reid brings in longtime friend Brian Billick as an offensive consultant. Billick was fired by the Baltimore Ravens this week.

It's the "off-season thread" so I'll put these here, most have been heard before but a few new ones(at least new to me)
Q: What do you call 47 people sitting around a TV watching the Super Bowl?
A: The Philadelphia Eagles.
Q: What do the Philadelphia Eagles and Billy Graham have in common?
A: The both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell "Jesus Christ".
Q: How do you keep a Philadelphia Eagle out of your yard?
A: Put up goal posts.
Q: Where do you go in Philadelphia in case of a tornado?
A: To the Linc - they never have a touchdown there!
Q: What do you call a Philadelphia Eagle with a Super Bowl ring?
A: A thief.
Q: Why doesn't Camden have a professional football team?
A: Because then Philadelphia would want one.
Q: Why was Andy Reid upset when the Philadelphia Eagles play book was stolen?
A: Because he hadn't finished coloring it.
Q: What's the difference between the Philadelphia Eagles and a dollar bill?
A: You can still get four quarters out of a dollar.
Q. How many Philadelphia Eagles does it take to win a Super Bowl?
A: Nobody knows and we may never find out.
Q: What do the Philadelphia Eagles and possums have in common?
A: Both play dead at home and get killed on the road !

mlewis, you weren't saying that by cutting Kearse, Howard and Lewis would only save the team 3-4 million right?!? Granted my numbers were a guess off the top of my head with no research at all, but now after a little looking here's the three of their cap figures for 08:
Howard 2,500,000.00
Kearse 6,460,000.00
Lewis 600,000.00
The saddest thing is that Lewis is going to be the 2nd highest paid WR on the team next year behind Curtis
I got this from the NFLPA site:

Tat,
I don't doubt that those are the Cap numbers, but the prorated portion of these players signing bonuses will count against the cap in '08. So the numbers look good when you take into account their '08 salaries that will be cut, but the total number has to be reduced by their PR SB. With kearse, they make about 2 mill, with howard, i think they just about break even (that could be reversed). It is certaintly no where 10-15 mill. I could be wrong though....
btw, outside of the punt muff (The coaches are more to blame than G-lew) I thought Ducky played fine this season (as he has his entire eagles career, when not asked to be a #1 or #2), and caught the ball just about every time the eagles threw it to him (usually for big gains and on 3rd down). Why everyone hates him on this board is beyond me. The guy is not a number one (nor is he asked to be) but is a very serviceable #4 who was extremely productive this year....Assuming they get a #1 or ! 1/2, i am alright letting him go, but the guy has clearly outplayed baskett and avant this year...

mlewis, you know you got me thinking a little with what you said about him out playing Basket and Avant, which brings me to what I think is the BIGGEST problem with this team/offense...
Reid's stubborness(no not that he's stubbon) to continue with his "package play-calling" IMO he should either addmitt his WR's are subpar and he has to rotate them around OR just stick with Lewis or Avant or Baskett as the #3 WR... Personally I think playing WR is similar to RB in the respect that the more your actually playing in the game the more productive you will be. If your only in for 6-7 plays a game how can you keep up the intensity, I know the WR's should try and make the most of the chances they get but I can't honestly think of another team that rotates the WR's the way Reid does... Just think if Dungy used 6 WR's do you think Harrison and Wayne would be ableto consistantly have huge numbers without the constant work with Manning during the week??? I don't I think a huge part of their success(besides the obvious talent)is the fact that they work together as the starters. I think that s part of the reason the Coltrs have had some problems this year, Harrison has been hurt so it's Wayne and which ever WR's have been able to do something there hasn't really been a consistant WRcorp that they are used to...
I know that isn't a great example but I would really like to see Reid stick with 3 WR's for a season, so McNabb knows these are my WR's and he would be able to work with them...
I know this is wishful thinking because Reid won't change...

McNabb on his blog: Please send help
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20080109_McNabb_on_his_blog__Please_send_help.html
"I'm surprised that anyone would have a problem with me, or anyone else in the organization, expressing a desire to bring in more quality players. We were 8-8. There is room for improvement. This is a competitive sport. It's about putting together the best players, the best team, and giving yourself the best chance to win.
"We didn't disrespect anyone when we traded for Takeo Spikes or signed Kevin Curtis last year. I don't think the Patriots were being disrespectful to Troy Brown or Reche Caldwell when they brought in Moss, Stallworth and Welker. Over the past few years, when the 49ers added Nate Clements, the Seahawks added Julian Peterson, the Giants added Plaxico Burress, the Colts added Adam Vinatieri, it was in an effort to add playmakers. In each case, the team identified a way to improve and they took action.
"I don't think that's being disrespectful to any of my teammates," McNabb continued on his blog. "It's certainly not my intention. I bet that anyone who wants to see the Eagles win - from Mr. [Jeffrey] Lurie to the entire locker room to every Eagles fan who bleeds green - would agree."
I agree.

"I know, as players, you have to be careful about saying that because those are your teammates that are being replaced," Reid said. "Most players don't get into that who really care about their teammates on the other side."
Nice to know Reid's so concerned about feelings.
