If teams really want him, they'll give him what he wants.
Again, not if they have a GM, and just need a coach.

I'd have to think Baltimore is the dream job opening this year, but who the hell wants to live in Baltimore.

There are about 10 coaching changes every year on average. Some have a GM and some don't.
Atlanta isn't going to be the last team in history to give full control, is what I'm saying. if that's all they have going for them it doesn't seem like a great fit.
It's clown town down there...one of the worst run organizations in sports.

There are not many teams that will give a guy like Carroll complete control. It just hardly ever happens.
Usually, the easiest answer to a question is the best. I think in this case, Atlanta is the only team that would give him full control. He was interested in San Diego's vacancy last year, but they resigned their GM.

Well, he got at least one offer for full control in each of the last 3 years.

Where else? I know he was offered head coaching positions, but turned them down b/c of lack of "full control" (per a huge USC fan)

He (like any other college coach) also has the advantage of the players listening to him. I doubt he'd be able to tell DeAngelo Hall to sit in the corner and do his homework the next time he spouts off.
Which is why i don't understand why more owners don't see that college coaches in the NFL just don't work.
Pete Carroll has like 15 years of NFL coaching experience. I don't think you can lump him in with the Petrino's of the world.

He got an offer for full control in Miami last year and didn't take it. I can't remember the specific offer he received 2 years ago, though.

I agree, but he didn't have a great deal of success as a head coach.
6-10 in one year with the Jets and in his stint with the Pats he took over a team fresh off a Super Bowl appearance and they got worse every year for 3 seasons before he was finally let go.

True, but a lot of guys don't have a ton of success their 1st time as an NFL head coach. See Belichick, Bill.

The Phins were coming off a 6-10 year and the Falcons just finished 4-12.

Depends on what you consider an offer, I guess. I don't think they wrote one out, but they tried to sway him to come to Miami and offered full control (based on reports).

I think it's just as stupid to completely denounce all college coaches because a good number of the head coaches in the NFL were once college coaches.
really, talon? i can't think of a whole lot of coaches pulled from the colleges ranks into the nfl that have had a whole lot of success. but quite a few abject, overmatched, failures come to mind.
the fact that some successful nfl coaches may have had some college coaching experience somewhere in their past is irrelevant to this discussion.

I should clarify that I don't care either way.
It just seems like an odd marriage. He'd be leaving a football mecca and a dynasty to take a stab at a 4-12 disaster (on and off the field) across the country that has a tough time filling seats.

Appears the point is now "moo":
CARROLL NOT EXPECTED TO TAKE FALCONS' BAIT
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that USC coach Pete Carroll is unlikely to be interested in coaching the Atlanta Falcons.
"Pete looked at it last year and lost interest," a person close to Carroll (our guess: Pat Kirwan) told Schefter. "Nothing is different. There's nothing going on there. He's not even entertaining the idea of going. Atlanta doesn’t fit at all."
Said the source as to the possibility of Carroll jumping to Atlanta or D.C.: "It's the wrong place, the wrong time, the wrong guy."

I think I figured it out: Carroll is the fat girl that became hot after she got out of high school. Still needs the attention, but looks a lot better now than she used to.

I wouldn't say so, F4F.
He took the advice of his coaches to administer a vote of confidence in Vick (prior to his dirty laundry airing), he did that. He did what he could to get the coaches who were thought to be good onto his team. He plays by the rules and isn't a dirty asshole that lowballs players or people who are loyal to him.
He may have failed, but not through his own fault but the faults of his unethical, disloyal head coach and the then unearthed criminality of his QB.
To me it seems that he is a stand up guy who got shit on cuz he thinks that when he talks to a "man" who gives his "word" that they will keep it.

I agree with you. When Vick was the poster boy of the NFL, the stadium was selling out, they added a hot prospect coach in Mora, built that brand new Flowery Branch training facility, etc. they seemed like an organization that was really getting their shit together.
Now they seem to be in worse shape than when he bought them and even Home Depot's are getting dirtier.
COINCIDENCE?????

i guest "worst" is a loaded term. the guy that owns the saints could more aptly labeled "worst" in how he deals with this team and his city (from what i've read).
blank does seem to be a stand-up guy and he seems to want to win.
but the vick fiasco is at least partly his responsibility. he traded for the guy, made him the face of the franchise, then acts like a star-struck fan around him. everyone knew vick had problems, everyone knew he hung out with a bad crowd, everyone knew he was one of the least hard working players in the league. but blank placated and let him do whatever the fuck he wanted. that falls on blank.
then you have the mora jr. firing, so despite all the recent evidence against hiring a big name college coach, mora does it anyway. does it even though petrino was infamous for his flightiness. and any due diligence would have revealed that petrino is a control freak who would have a very hard time dealing with pro players. so that, predictably, blows up in his face.
after all that (and the embarrassing debacle with parcels), he goes after another college coach, one who on the surface, isn't a fit at all to come to atlanta. so what does he do? reportedly offer him full control over player personnel to sweeten the deal. and he still gets rejected.
he may be the classiest guy in the world, but he has been about as bad an owner as you can be over the last few years.

Two things -
College football being so big in the south, why wouldn't someone think that could translate into the NFL?
College coaches don't really know what they're getting into until they come here, then find out that some (if not most) are overmatched. Easier to promote a guy who's at least been in the NFL ranks and has seen head coaching in action.
Just a stab in the dark.
