"Funny no Baltimore fans heard of it" -KB

Not really. As i stated, this thing happened in stages, all on the same day, and none of it came from a message board that I am aware- (unless the radio show host was looking at the message board link you posted- but that would only account for 1/3 of the way the thing unfolded.)

I first was involved in a quick conversation re: Harbaugh goin to Balt, and how they (F.O.) figured they could expect some McNabb talk/possible offer to come from them askin for supah 5.

Im later in the car & have on a Balt. based radio station (FM) that deals heavily in sports talk. They're talkin about the hiring of Harbaugh, and the No.1 need, and this woman host kinda hesitates but only briefly, and then states that they "unofficially" have heard very strong rumblings of an offer to land McNabb in Philly. That would be the ridiculous offer that they'd be asinine to make the Eagles (the 8th pick overall, and Ed Reed for Supah 5).

I sent the text, to some of you, even prefaced it w/ the line NEAG has made famous - "are you sitting down?", and then relayed what that deal was.

ONLY AFTER that (and many MIXED replies btw- half would have taken advantage of that offer, the other half opting to keep McNabb 1 more year which I find interesting in and of itself) did I hear that at some point, Hugh Douglass 'reported' the same exact rumor.

It would be easy enuff to substantiate whether he said anything I assume, if he has his own show on WIP (god help them) then Im sure that could be verified.

So there ya have it KB- dont know how uninformed or uninterested your Balt. Fan friends are, but two diferent markets basically had people of little consequence albeit, say that they've heard the same rumor, maybe even on the same day.

The defense rests.

And for the record, that offer is ludicrous and if it were real, i mean if it came out on ESPN today that the offer was on the table, if the Eagles passed on that, they should forever toil at .500 as punishment.

I did read over the Ravens message boards for their thoughts and those guys are hilarious.

Ed Reed is going to be 30 years old before the season starts. McNabb is only 18 months older at a position where you can play much, much longer. They were talking about McNabb being over the hill and Reed in his prime, which was great.

Second, Is Reed really the player he used to be? if he is, how much longer will he be?

I don;t think a QB has been traed for a safety in the history of the NFL and I doubt it will start now. If the Ravens trade Reed, that should be a sign of what they think he has left. He's a ballhawk, but his tackle numbers are to the point of alarming at this point. 39 tackles last year, 60 the year before, and 37 in 2005 (10 games). This is a safety who averaged 80 tackles per season his first 3 years and 45 tackles his last 3. Very strange.

Either way, this deal smells like BS...just can't see it happening.

I believe you, I just think it's weird that not only the Baltimore co-workers, but nobody on the messageboards heard of it. The closest was that offer some guy made up, and he admitted to making it up. You can see how the whole thing seems fishy, especially when G Cobb has no mention of it on his site

Plus, it does sound like some messageboard BS picked up by outlets as an actual rumor. That would explain the host saying it, then reaching other outlets, that's all.

actually, I havent been able to load his page in about a wk- i get an error msg saying that Internet Explorer cannot open the following URL or something.

All I can think is that he added some sorta video player to the home page? DE Online did and that site acts all messed up a lot of the time for me here.

2nd- would his site / is his site known for rumors?

I hit it (used to) almost DAILY for the articles, opinions and grammar errors. Dont recall him gettin into rumors ever.

It's not so much Reed as it is the pick...and what's the best offer we've been talking about for McNabb? A 2nd? Maybe a 2 and 3?

And when you talk about shelf life, yes, 5 is in a position where he can play longer, but those injuries are making that part a non-factor.

If the rumor's true, I think this would be the best you could hope to get for McNabb, and it's so much more than anything anyone could have realistically thought up.

I go on fine last night.

If this was an actual rumor, and the only source in Philly was a co-worker at his radio station, you don't think G Cobb would mention that? This would be huge news.

There's no one @ 8 who will be good enough to trade your QB for. This draft is LOADED with RB talent, the 1 area where the Eagles will not use a high pick on.

I hate to say it guys, but I think we are looking at some OT from Utah State or some under-achieving DE (ahem, McDougle part II) who happened to play for a big-time program.

There's absolutely no way the Ravens would trade Reed AND a first, but there would definitely be guys worth taking for the Eagles up there.

Gholsten would be an option. Kenny Phillips, maybe. There are guys up there worth grabbing, but i think there's no way a team would trade a pick that high or McNabb...throwing Reed in makes it even more ridiculous.
They have a lot of needs and are an aging defense without a QB, which means they have a ton of needs they would like to fill with that pick.

Gholston is exactly the kind of over-rated DE from a big program that I was talking about. No way would I trade a starting NFL QB for an unknown entity. No way.

I watch alot of college football and I think that this is one of the weakest drafts I have seen in a while. RB is the one position where there is a ton of talent, but outside that there are alot of nice players, but not much star-power.

For some reason, I don't see them taking a corner with the 1st pick. In the Banner mindset, they evaluate each position by salary and they already have alot of $ invested in their starters. I def think they will take a CB in the draft, but I'm thinking 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounds.

If they drop Kearse, a DE in the 1st is a strong possibility, but I think that the guys who will be there when the Eagles pick will be mediocre.

I really think that OT is the way they will go.

well, it depends on what you think of McNabb.

The fact that no one in the league would even consider giving a top 10 pick for McNabb shows what THEY think of him.

It does look that way, doesn't it?

I don't watch a ton of college football, but watch some every week. Of the players coming out, there aren't a lot of real game changers, in my opinion.

One player who really sticks out as being over-valued is Limas Sweed. He's a good receiver, but why do I keep reading comparisons between he and Roy Williams? They are COMPLETELY different players.

If Roy Williams were to actually be traded, by the way, I would love him. I know he's a bit of a retard and he's struggled with injuries some, but I think he's just a QB and a year or two from putting it all together (in the right environment).

I'd like to see Roy Williams here, nice player.

Agreed on Sweed--big time program, leading receiver, etc. He is a "sportscenter" guy that might have 1 or 2 highlights per week. He will get hyped heading up to the draft, but I saw him play twice this season (not really a huge sample) and he seemed like just another guy out there.

2 guys that sort of flies under the radar are Jonathan Stewart from Oregon and Yvenson Bernard from Oregon State. Stewart has gotten a little more press lately, but he will fall to the 2nd round. Really nice player. Bernard gets almost no pub, but I saw him play several times this year and he is a player. He'll be a 3rd or 4th round pick and would fit the Eagles scheme nicely.

Again, RBs are solid but I can't see them taking one in this draft.

I've seen a lot of these early mocks having Stewart the #2 RB in the draft, going in the middle of the first round.

Since both starting tackles are in their last year of the contract or nearing the end of their careers, it wouldn't shock me if the Eagles play the day out and see if a good OT drops. They might even trade up.

WR? It's possible, but they should be looking at the OL. If they're serious about moving Andrews to tackle, they might hold on OT in the first and take a guard in the second.

If the Eagles look to re-sign one of the young WRs to a multi-year deal this off-season, I'd wager no WR in the first day.

I highly doubt the Eagles move to a 3-4. I think they like the base 4-3 and now see using a modified 3-3-5 as a spice package.

drafting on the offensive line only makes sense if they've failed horribly in their last decade of drafts.

Reid and Co. were handed 2 linemen who would start for most of this run (in Mayberry and Thomas) and signed Runyan right away.

If they truly need to go o-line early in the draft again, they are miserable asshole failures.

Not saying there isn't a big question mark there with Tra/Runyan old and going into the final years of their deals...just saying it's a horrid shitshow if they don't have 2 tackles ready to step in between Andrews, Herremans, and Justice.

For the love of shit...I just don't want to see an offensive lineman selected high. It's so fucking boring and apparently they suck at drafting linemen if they need another one already.
