For Zak and Talon:

"I lived in both Boston and New York, each for about four years, and it's mind-boggling that a New York sports fan could be considered less obnoxious than one from any other city, although Boston is fairly despicable. Things could be different now. I was there when the Pats lost to Green Bay in the SB and nobody even cared."

I have to disagree using the benchmark of bandwagonism. In baseball, there are a ton of Yankee fans and a ton of Boston fans, both of which go insane in their levels of annoyance and outerwear. In football both city's fans aren't at the same levels as baseball but still exist in small groups. When a New York team wins something noteworthy, the number of "fans" wearing gear and talking about "their" team goes up about 20%. In Boston it's around 300%. I was in Florida during week 17 of the season and the place EXPLODED with Patriots jerseys on Monday. I saw maybe two jerseys on Sunday.

"Also, New York doesn't give a shit about the Giants. It's all Yankees all the time up here. The Giants could win this Superbowl in one of the greatest upsets ever, and the story will get trumped because Steinbrenner farted. "

Casual Giants fans seemed to wake up before the NFC Championship game. Now it's a ratings war around here just to work a reference to the team into all of their sentences. But you're right - if the Giants lose the whole season recap will be eclipsed by one shred of spring training news.

If I know "The Level", the combo we get to watch in 2 wks is just going to give YET ANOTHER reason for many to become utterly blotto, possibly passing out early on a couch in an effete pose.

Bingo.

Frankly, I'm really rooting for pulled pork, smoked ribs, and buffalo chicken dip, attempting to eat enough of all of the above with enough Irish whiskey to induce some sort of food coma that will cause me to miss most of the game, hopefully conking out long before Tom Petty takes the stage.

Talon - NTFF about Steinblabber, but I disagree about them not giving a shit. Day 2 of Thongdar's 14 days in Giant Hell featured such comments as "If the Giants win, which team would be more magical, the '69 Mets, the '86 Mets, or the '07 Giants?" and "Here's what the Giant mantra should be for the next two weeks - Why NOT us?" Just fucking shoot me.

For me, Giants vs. Oakland. Dallas fans are going to be assholes no matter what (SB champs or 1-15, they were still dicks), but to me, Giant fans are 100% more obnoxious when they win. I've hated Oakland from the late 60's on, which intensified after SB XV.

Worst outcome: Dallas vs. New England. In that game, I would root for NE to prevent Dallas from being the first team to win 6 SB titles. Plus, unless JJ's new football palace is environmentally friendly, I wish him nothing but failure and misery as long as he owns the Cowboys.

Regarding Patriots fans, Talon is 100% correct. Living in Boston, I can attest that they are insufferable bandwagon fools who delude themselves in thinking their team is dominant when they have actually been just slightly better than the rest of the competition over the years. The first Super Bowl vs. the Rams? They shouldn't have even been there because of the BS tuck rule. Clearly a fumble. Game over, Raiders win. But, for the sake of argument, say the Raiders pulled a Joe Pisarcik and gave the Pats a miracle victory. They still needed a punt return for a TD and a blocked FG return for a TD to beat the Steelers in the AFCCG, and they needed the worst coaching (Reid included) in the history of the SB by Mike Martz (COMPLETELY underutilized NFL MVP Marshall Faulk) to pull it out. The second SB vs. the Panthers? Whatever. They won a shootout by 3 points. The third? No comment necessary, although I will say I was yelling at the TV in disbelief that they beat the blitz with the screen pass EVERY TIME in the second half - like they knew what was coming. But the way these fans act up here, it's like every Pats SB win was a 46-10 or 55-10 blowout like the dominating victories by the Bears & 49ers.

Plus, they all buy into the 'win with class' propaganda put forth by the local and national media. That's the part that drives me nuts. Vrabel flapping his arms after scoring in SB39 or leg-whipping Rivers in Sunday's AFCCG gets no mention from the media or the fans here, and neither did their stomping on the Chargers logo in the divisional round last year. So not only are Pats fans bandwagon, they also operate with the same mentality of Notre Dame football worshippers and Duke Basketball followers who think their teams are not only physically superior to their opponents, but morally and ethically superior as well. Add it all up, and it is a nightmare for any rational football fan who follows another team. Go Giants.

I actually think I would root for the Kmher Rouge over either of these teams.

Pats - smarmy prick Coach, QB, players & bandwagon jumping fanbase.

NYG - do I really need to list why I hate this franchise (although it is #3 in the NFCEast)?

At least you didn't compare them to Idi Amin. Pol Pot regime vs Patriots? Pol Pot 10 out of 10 times.

"What was the consensus?"

Giants, then '69 Mets, then '86, mostly because of how poorly the Giants played and how great they're playing now. '69 Mets were the original Miracle Mets (so they told me). They agreed that the '86 Mets were heavily favored and just benefitted from Buckner's stupidity.

I spent the entire conversation trying to slit both of my wrists with a pocket comb.

The reason why I'm coming to the Level now is so I don't have to go on any of those sites and get absolutely smothered in "we're the good guys!" hype. I mean, the Giants as America's Team?

It's going to get much, MUCH worse.

My 76 year old mother hates the Giants. Knows nothing about football.

That's the point. The new hated enemy is the Patriots. The Patriots beat the Eagles in the Superbowl. Took away the chance. My 23 year old daughter, Graduate of school in Willimantic,CT with no prior schooling on hating New England, hates Boston and the New England Patriots, because of the fans. Confirms what others have said.

Meanwhile, the former Eagles coach, Spagnuolo has single-handledly (is that a word?) turned the Giants franchise around. This is the time to rally round the common enemy. If Giants win, it's sweet, and validates that the NFC East was the best division in Football, and shows that Jim Johnson and the Eagles demonstrated the way to beat those assho....

Go Eli Manning... Go Giants....
