That was in response to uber's nicknames comment.

(Not yet. McNabb looked much better in the last few games. Granted the pressure was off but he was also coming off a major injury so we all should have expected him to be sub par at the beginning of the year. It seemed like everyone did during the offseason but once the season started everyone forgot about the "coming off an injury expectations.")

Thats true. Mcnabb deserves another year to show if his shakey season was due to the injury. But if he doesnt improve next year, then i say get out!!!

The thing that lost me with Mcnabb was when he claimed to of stopped running to avoid being stereotyped as a "black running qb" that really bothered me...

During the Saints game i remember the announcers pointing out the difference between Mcnabb in that game. As to how he was when the season was still meaningful. I guess it gets to him and he does too much looking around. But when the pressure is off, he doesnt think and just throws...

(Kolb is an unknown. I am not willing to give up a top 10 (still) QB for an unknown, at least not yet.)

That is also a good point. He seems like a good qb from what i saw from his college report, but that dont mean shit when you get in the big leagues.

Its like even if they do get rid of Mcnabb, they better get a veteran in there in case Kolb flops.

Next year will be interesting, if we're either going to have an improved McNabb who's burning with a desire to prove a lot of people wrong, or a sulking 5 who wants out of Philly (and the BS of the FO) in the worst way.

Even if his play has improved, his #s as of late still scream "hollow" (and I'm just translating yards into points and not looking specifically at how many 300+ yard games he has, because their problem has been and will continue to be the red zone).

I still believe a change in scenery would be beneficial for all parties.

Thats whats wierd about Mcnabb. When hes winning hes all smiles and loves the fans...Then when he sucks and we boo him he's on the sideline pouting and his family starts saying shit.

Yup. I blame that in part because they get in the red zone and forget they have running backs and a monster offensive who can close the deal...

You arent gonna throw up a jump ball to Reggie Brown or Kevin Curtis and expect results...

How about that? Reid and Mcnabb dont get along anymore. Players are calling out Mcnabb etc.

Plus i think that if Mcnabb couldnt win it for us in his prime aganst weaker competition, i dont know how he can do it at age 30, coming off bad injuries against teams that are alot better...

McNabb can win the Super Bowl with the right cast, but that can be said for a number of QBs. He has this year to prove it.

When he's gone, though, I think it would be a terrible mistake to bring in a vet QB to backup. Live or die with Kolb. Knowing he blows and coming to grips with rebuilding is more important than squeaking out an 8-8 season. Think back to that OSU QB the Eagles had some time back. Can't recall his name. Terrible QB. Ended up on Oakland's roster before getting a job as a bagger.

Bringing in the vet backup could easily seduce a coach into thinking he can tweak here and there and make a playoff contender instead of losing 13 games and drafting a franchise QB early in the first round.

In most cities, thinking Tampa Bay and Atlanta, this would be the death of a franchise. Philly fans packed the stadium during Bobby Hoying's tenure (remembered his name). Without getting into the cock-rub that happened earlier, they are passionate. But it's what makes a fan passionate that would buy the Eagles time.

Winning makes fans content; revulsion makes them passionate.

Think of the franchises in pro sports with passionate fans. Would you call Pats fans passionate or BoSox fans passionate? Why? Because the BoSox revile the Yankees. Heck, the Yankees fans hate their owner. Other baseball fans hate the Yankees.

The Eagles fans seem to love to hate the front office. The games you really felt the passion, not the happiness but the passion. You were screaming your head off as the Seahawks blanketed the Eagles opening game 1998. You were screaming bloody murder and packing ice balls to knock Jimmy Johnson out (Dallas, obviously).

Packing a band-aid in case Kolb flops only pro-longs the process. Live or die with him. If you die, the fanbase will be back and you can draft high. If you go through the journeyman process many clubs slip into, you only keep the fans mildly interested, but not as passionate. In short, that is what can kill a fanbase.

I agree with that statement. I find it really puzzling (or perhaps somewhat of an indictment on where FB thought Kolb was "skill-wise" last season?) that the Eagles finished the season with McNabb at the helm. If the season is lost, at least see what you have in your "QB of the future" by giving him some true in game experience to build on.

I don't think that they had really finished 'evaluating' McNabb yet. A sad note to say about an eight year veteran, but what good can be said? If you were prepared to take McNabb into next season, then there is no point in inserting Kolb without a full season under his belt. If you intended to dump McNabb, you had to audtition him long enough to make people think it really was his injury limiting his ability to perform throughout the season. Either way, it meant no Kolb this season, even for a game.
What really interests me is how well the transition in contention will actually work. Except for RB and FS, this team will have essentially rebuilt itself from the Super Bowl team of 2004 in less than four years. To do so and remain in contention each year (except the first) is somewhat impressive. This may sound nuts, but, if you beleive they are diabolical enough, it seemas that the FO may be trying to 'ride out' the Bill Bellichek/Tom Brady era.

You are right about the veteran qb. I was just thinking that if Mcnabb leaves they should do what they did with Doug Pederson...

But that doesnt make sense because i doubt the Eagles would trade Mcnabb if they didnt think Kolb could play.

I think they were trying to avoid a media circus. If the Eagles started Kolb in the last few games, the Mcnabb family and ESPN and every other member of Mcnabb Enterprises would of had a fit...

The thing that i liked though was that Kolb was promoted to 2nd String qb. That tells me the kid is breathing down Mcnabbs neck. That, and AJ Feeley is done...

I don't buy the "audition McNabb for other teams" mentality one bit. If a team doesn't know about what they will get from McNabb with around an 8 year resume, then they are too stupid to be even considering taking Donovan in the first place.

That means that there was one of two things going through the Eagles FO (IMO anyway):

1. McNabb is here to stay for at least the next season. This is where I am leaning, and I really can't see where that is a bad thing. Again, I'm a professed "McNabb homer", but he has been the best QB the Eagles have had in my lifetime, even with the injuries.

2. Kolb isn't all that he was cracked up to be yet. I sincerely hope this is a blatant lie, but based on his representation in his limited playing time...well...I'm just not sold on him as of yet.
