Andy Reid is a complete motard.

I watched the replay on NFL network of the Eagles/Pats SB. It would be reasonable of you to ask why I tortured myself thusly. I have no good answer. Truthfully, there is almost no reason the Eagles couldn't have won it.

First Andy:

8:42 remaining. Pats up 24-14.

1st play he calls is an off tackle run by Westy for two yards. Jizus Kriest! Then a slant play for some yards and lots of lost time. Finally, 5 hits TO for a 35 yard gain on a fake to the inside with one-on-one coverage. McNabb is interecepted on the next play. He makes us all feel better by tapping his chest with the universal "Its on me" gesture.

Defense is solid.

Eagles get the ball back with just around 5 min remaining. The following sequence of plays is incomprehenisble. Two slant plays to the right and left. Finally a short toss to the WR (TO, I think - for his last reception of the game) for the first down. The complete lack of urgency commented upon by Aikman wondering incredulously why the Eagles weren't on point taking nearly 20+ seconds to set up every play. Great effin' time management. Then the Greg Lewis TD.

Last punt by the Pats after the Eagles stop them AGAIN, one of the Eagles return men (on the left, ball was kicked to the right) just falls down. Even then they didn't have people that could remain upright for long. The Eagles have nobody deep in the efforts to stop the Pats from downing it in the 20. They down it on the 4.

Then the pass to Westy for no gain and then a Parry in the flat. (Mind you, the Eagles had 55 seconds left to start). Game over after a Harrison interception.

It was fun watching the frustration on Bellicheck's face. It was infuriating watching Andy Reid's indifference.

The whole time, you could see that TO really was fired up about winning. The defense had genuinely played quite well with Kearse helping to stop the Pats from gaining the first down. Even Hollis Thomas and Michael Lewis got in on the act. Watching how Burgess bum rushed through the lineman to Mamula Brady on 3rd and 5 reminds me of how stupid they were to let him go. McNabb really did look like he his steady diet of vodka, cigarettes and Chunky soup really helped with his stamina. Once again - Jizus Kriest.

I effin hate the Pats. But even more than I hate them, the Skins, the Giants or Dallas, I hate Andy Reid. After reading that last sentence, I think it encapsulates for any outsider the perdition better known as Eagle's fandom.

After reading that last sentence the timestamp on this post, I think it encapsulates for any outsider the perdition better known as Eagle's fandom.

Jules, I think we all agree they could "Ahem...do a better job there".

Problem solved.

What makes it even more frustrating was that the game was theirs for the taking. If McNabb has an average day, they probably win.

But thanks for reminding me the sense of dread that makes me feel that even if they get back to the SB, they'll find some way to F it up.

I realized I had blocked it out of my mind, but I was incredulous at FB FINALLY utilizing the run when he doesn't have a lead and late in the 4th quarter when his time is limited. Furthermore, the Birds rarely use the slant passes to slow down the blitz, but now FB was using them even without a blitz.

I had forgotten how mindboggling his playcalling can be the bigger the game actually is.....

FD, that was funny.

I remember saying that the Eagles should have kicked it deep after pulling to within three.

When everyone stared at me like I had three heads as to inquire why I said "Let's say the Birds DO stop them here. They get the ball back on the 20 at best and are pinned inside the 5 at worst."

Obviously, I understand why they went for the onside but I honestly believe to this day that they had a better shot to win if they kicked it deep.

Strangely enough, this was the foreshadowing of the punt on 4th down late in the game against the Saints two years later...
