FB, when is the last time a WR was even traded for as much as 1st and third, let along a potential for 2 first round picks? Joey Galloway 10 years ago?

2 potential 1st round picks. A 1st and 3rd guaranteed? Compare that to what the Eagles traded to get T.O. just 3 years ago when he was roughly the same age. What did they give...a conditional 4th (that ended up as a third or second) and Brandon Whiting?

Those incentives could easily be very different. I would imagine they'd be a lot easier to get for him monetarily, but harder based on the pick

Understood it's speculation, just never heard of incentives being the same in a trade as it is with the player's contract.

Fair enuff f-d- just sayin that maybe their current WR situation added along with their desire to make a stand against malcontents (and not open the floodgates) is worth more to them than the offer the Redskins made

Just a theory, I really wouldn't know since I don't have any facts

FD, I think more would've been offered had people realized that TO was going to be a FA. Feel free to correct.

The other stickling point is that CJ (if it's all about money) signed the contract not too long ago. If anyone is to blame about his current mess, it's him. And even beyond all that, what team would give in to his demands if he's just going to make a huge public spectacle if he wants to change it not even 2 years later?

Oh, if thats your take (KB) lemme clear that up...

Im not saying the incentives are/would be the same.

What im saying is that if the ones for CJ & His $$$ are met because they're a 'soft ball thrown underhand" for him,,,,likely the same approach that say, Rosenhaus took when negotiating those 'easy' terms would be employed by Cincy when they work on the actual trade deal w/ The Skins or whomever, and the incentives that they'd want Washington bound to would be similarly easy-not necesarily tied into how many yds he nets for them, as just 1 example.

See what Im sayin?

The Skins or whomever, in order to get the Bengals and CJ to go with this, really would be in a position to placate rather than dictate.

Bass, it was widely known that he was going to be a F.A., even before the gaffe with his then "best bud" and agent and the filing deadline.

He was perceived as too costly for the amount of headache potentially existed & there was some mild concern tossed in re: injury history.

Only Balt and Phila. wanted to dance with SF.

I understood what you're saying, but I do think the incentives to reach a 1st would be a lot harder than the incentives CJ would to get more $$$$.

A first and a third are already a lot to give up, as history has shown, so I think they'd make those incentives pretty tough to get to.

If it were another organization, i'd be far more inclined to agree w/ ya.

But this is Washington.

Either way, we are all football starved cos this is whats takin up our time on a Tuesday afternoon in April.

You do know this is the Redskins we're dealing with, right? While the Eagles consider drafts picks to be The Precious, the Skins treat them like a shopping cart full of empty cans they can trade in to satisfy their fix.

I'm half surprised they restrained themselves from giving the Bengals every pick in their arsenal.

I love it when the 1st one's a done deal.

gives you a sorta 'warm up' time period with which to settle in....

Yeah...I can't see why not. They should probably avoid it until the terms of #1 are known, though.

So they now have to choose between Gholsten, Long, and Dorsey. Dorsey is the guy, right?

Dorsey would appear to be "The" choice.

Could they go long?

I guess with a team like that, I'd only rule out McFadden and a QB.

Yeah, I have a buddy who is about as “in” as you could get with the Rams until recently and he said they were sold on McFadden. It’s funny how things change. We were never sure if it was a negotiating thing with Jackson, though.

Rams have a lot of holes. Without knowing, I’d think they’d lean toward DE. Their ends are old and tend to murder people when driving.

I read or heard a couple days ago they are going back and forth between all 3, with Long/Dorsey neck and neck at the top.

I think (again, just from what I've read and heard) the lynch pin seems to be Adam Carriker. He played DT last year but could play either DT of DE in theory. If they want to keep him at DT, I think they'll go with a DE and if they want to move him to DE, they'll go with Dorsey.

If they settle on DE, that would be an awfully hard choice. Do you take the guy who is theoretically safer in long or do you take the guy with a higher potential in Gholsten? On a lot of teams I think Long would be a no-brainer, but on the carpet Gholsten might be a better fit.

I'm just kicking shit around, though.

Gholston is kinda a 'what if' type of guy who wows the crud outta scouts/Kiper types with his potential given his measureables.

But fact remains he's still a 'tweener' who could just be an outstanding athlete when its all said and done.
Im not saying he is another Mamula- read that somewhere and gave it a sideways glance- but I can see why perhaps a few have drawn initial comparisons.
