Not sure if it matters, but Lewis was undrafted, wasn't he? They picked him up off the scrap heap after the draft.
If anything, that helps their argument of being able to plug just about anyone into the system and be productive. Why waste a high pick on a WR when you can get guys like Lewis and get production out of them?
And really, if they know they're so bad at evaluating WR talent, they should do something about it, instead of trying to convert #3s into #1s off the FA market. Easiest way to get a #1 is to draft him.

yup FD, thats what this comes down to. Holding out hope for a miracle trade.
Lets look at the prospects of what may happen on Saturday and the effects on '08, the "ALL IN SEASON":
-at 19, they draft a OT. They sit on the bench until 2009 (baring injury)
-At 19, they draft a WR who sits on the bench, seeing limited time as the 4th WR (unless he is a returner, of which would dramatically improve the teams ST). But lets be serious. They are going OT or DB. This DT thing is BS.
-At 19, they draft a corner who may challenge sheldon, but most likely will face an improved Hanson for the nickel (unless returner).
-Add the fact that after Saturday, they lose the top playmaker on your defense and I am not feeling to great about the all in season.
I am not saying that the players drafted wont be stars in the future, but they WILL NOT be major difference makers this year and will not equal Lito's production.
The only way to make up for lito is to get a veteran with similar abilities (WR, WR, WR)
Again, I want them to draft whats best for the team, and I do buy into the big mans philosophy. But unless they get a Veteran WR who demands double coverage, or strike gold with a rookie WR, this draft will not dramatically improve the '08 team in anyway.
Add to the fact that the eagles are 3rd in the division, and it may be time to smash the starting to maybe, panic button.

Interesting...from Jay Glazer
The long-rumored Lito Sheppard trade appears to be getting closer.
FOXSports.com has learned that Sheppard was in Tampa on Wednesday to visit with the Buccaneers, who have emerged as the frontrunner for the two-time Pro Bowler, and is likely to be traded by Saturday.
It appears it will take a second-round pick plus and additional pick or player to get the deal done.
Two or three other teams are interested in the cornerback, who has played with the Eagles since entering the league in 2002.
Sheppard is the only player in NFL history with two interception returns of more than 100 yards, turning the trick in 2004 and 2006, both against the Cowboys. He has 15 career interceptions and three touchdowns.

I am simply not into it...
52nd pick in the draft for our best defensive playmaker? And using that pick to trade up and get an OT that wont play in a year.
Great for Kevin Kolb. Shitty for Mcnabb.

McNabb came out the other day on ESPN and basically said you draft to bring in people to help you now, and not down the line.
Like the fact that 5's speaking his mind.

FD- thanks for that update.
I think i hate it.
While it gives Philly 2 picks in rd 2, the pick is after Philly's- while I was hopin for a pick in rd 2, but 1 in the top portion.
Package both these in the 2nd for a late 1st at this point?
Hey, its not a done deal, but this isnt exactly what Id hoped for--- then again----its all house money here.
A thought: They seem to be real down on Maurice Stovall down there, and I would be very interested in acquiring him- DESPITE his crum bum stats down there....if they tossed him in, there;'s a big body whom i wanted to draft a few yrs ago. Anyone?

I'm not sure I buy the whole, "no emphasis" judgment on the wide receiver position. Just because a team hasn't drafted that position high for some time doesn't necessarily mean that they ignore it. I think it's far more likely that they often think they've found the guy that they're looking for, only to be proven wrong. The ideal receiver is fast enough to burn soft coverage, big enough to beat press coverage, agile enough to adjust to tough throws, and skilled enough to catch almost everything thrown at him. Aside from T.O., it looks as if every receiver tandem that they have trotted out over the years is some sort of mix of those characteristics that doesn't quite add up.
I really believe that they thought Reggie Brown could become a beat the press coverage kind of guy based upon his college work and first season, but it hasn't seemed to turn out that way. Obviously, Curtis is not that man, but he sure can destroy soft coverage (for reference, see Lions, Saints games).

Seth, great idea with Stovall. The rumor seems to be the 2nd round pick and a player (or another pick). I wanted them to draft Stovall a couple years ago and he could be a nice throw-in now. Better than nothing, I guess.
On the pick...not sure what you guys were expecting. near the top of the second would have been absolute max value. Middle of the second and a player or pick would have been second best. Bottom of the second or third would have been more depressing fro me.
Still, who leaked the info? The Bucs shouldn't want it leaked. It could hurt their draft plans or raise the price.
Lito shouldn't want it leaked if they are willing to give him a deal...he grew up in Florida, gets his money, and gets to play opposite Ronde Barber on a good defense predicated on minimizing CB responsibility and making plays.
Smells like the Birds leaked it to see if they can get anyone higher in the second round to bite by Saturday...just a guess, though.

52nd pick in the draft for our best defensive playmaker?
Well, he's the second best playmaker now (with Samuel coming in) and keeping him isn't an option. What did you honestly expect in return?
Something a little higher would be nice, but I figured the Rams pick would be the absolute max and this kind of pick was always a strong possibility.
If he didn't get hurt all the time and he didn't want a new deal, his value would be much higher. Of course, remove those two elements and the Eagles wouldn't consider dealing him.
Funny how that works, isn't it?

It leaked in Fla. as theyre giddy it seems.
But a diferent take- they seem to think its a 2nd this yr and a conditional 2009 pick.
DEFINATELY not down with that.
I wanted Stovall SO BADLY that yr in the draft, was even willing to actively root on a Golden Domer.
Gimmie M.Stovall and the 2nd and done deal.

What's the best case, though?
I want more, but I'll take #52 (and whatever else they throw in) if that's what's available.
It also gives them the chance to trade their first round pick. By the almighty chart, their 2 second round picks would get them back up to the 20, 21, 22 area. Maybe a team, in the heat of the day, takes that first rounder for Roy/Boldin/Whoever, and the Eagles can trade right back up into the first a couple picks later for their precious lineman, Phillips, or whoever. They have enough ammo to get back into the bottom of the second with their 3rd and 4th, as well.

Yeah, i think ya drilled it- not the scenario, but the 1st sentence--- "Whats the best case scenario tho?"
And cos it broke 2 days early, I think this is it.
If its not a conditional pick NEXT YR and its truly a 2nd and a 4th as Ive seen now, Id do it.
Id prefer my own scenario of their 2nd and Stovall, but unless Spuds still has Interns lookin at the site (PLEASE I HOPE HE DOES!) and they relay it to FB, I'll take 52 and another 08 pick which you just know is goin to be packaged in another deal.
If Philly gets a WR- I think its Boldin...they had subatantive talks with Zona (IMO- ALL THAT SMOKE- i think the Cards kept Philly around in case a deal couldnt be reached) and good will built between personel depts. goes a long way in the NFL.

its the 52 and a conditional pick, an '09 that can get up to a 2 if LIto plays in certain amount of games. The eagles leaked it(obviously). I heard this from someone fairly close to the situation.
Also said that all 3 vet WR will require jared Allen type trades. Nothing less.
Take it for what its worth.

Heckert finally says something smart/funny:
"I think the old-time strong safety is getting to be obsolete," Heckert said. "If you can't cover, they're going to find that guy no matter what you do. Even if you're playing zone coverage, they're going to find that guy. If a guy can cover, you like him better than a guy that's going to come up and knock the crap out of you. With our division and all the tight ends, you'd better be able to handle those guys."

I agree with F-D.
The Eagles FO leaked this--sort of like naming the starting price of a bid.
I don't think that they could hope for better than a mid 2nd rounder.
How's this for a scenario: They take their 1st round pick this year, their first round pick next year--trade those to Arizona for Boldin, package both second round picks (if they trade Lito) and move up to get Kenny Phillips?
I know it sounds like an EMB thought, but that would make for an interesting draft day--one of the best I would remember.

KB, where did you hear Clayton?
I know he had a great rookie year, and then promptly went in the can.
No, I like my thought from last nite far better- gimmie Stovall.
Galloway the ageless wonder is still their #1 for what its worth, for whomever wondered aloud if Clayton was their #1.

I think Clayton has been bandied about on the EMB, WIP, and mentioned in one of the local rags today (citing the speculation from the sources above, not any insider info).
