BTW, I'm starting to think that someone within the Eagles FO is a disciple of Mike Tanier and the Football Outsiders crew.
1. The outsiders loved Kolb because of all the starts he had in college and his high completion percentage in a non-gimmicky college offense. I think he was their favorite quarterback of the draft.
2. They also loved Kevin Curtis, calling him their favorite receiver several times, hand-down, while he was with the Rams.
3. They said several times, that the Eagles priority this offseason should be defense, not offense. According to their statistics, the offense outperformed the defense by leaps and bounds.

Plus, their penchant for selecting 'their' players, like 'fastballs' who are not valued quite so highly by other teams, rings eerily similar to the late '90s Billy Beane drafts

I can page back in a second, to see other's thoughts acquiring Booker from the Fins- but thats a really nice move (IMO) and I havent heard much about it on other sites.
He is a perfect fit I think for Philly's offense.

Seeing the press coverage on the Giants taking Caleb Campbell from Army: If character is so important to the Eagles, why aren't more of their picks from the forces?

I was very VERY happy yesterday when they traded out.
Good value for the trade, but I certainly wasn't happy.
You don't win championships without premier players and it's tougher to get premier players when you don't ever take guys in the first round.
They are probably the only team in the league that hasn't used a first round pick since 2006. In that time, their first overall selections have been DT, DT, QB, DT.
It's like groundhog day.

Scotty- he had MCL and ACL surgery- with off the field red-flags and "issues" per Oulad's guide.
WILL NOT PLAY in 2008.
CANNOT WALK. CANT WALK!
NTFF!!!!!
I couldn't stop laughing when they made this pick. He won't play a down in 2008 and was arrested for breaking into a house with his brother a few months ago. Supposedly tat was a big misunderstanding, but I guess we'll find out.
Again, good "value" with the pick, but they will get less than nothing from this guy this year and his injury sounds like the kind that might make it difficult for him to ever regain his burst.

I'm not thrilled with the draft at all.
DeSmurf Jackson weighs 165 pounds and is not even 5'10". I know that he can return kicks, but there are other guys who can do that too. This guy is not Devin Hester--If he can stretch the field for this team, I will be OK with it, but the dude weighs less than a HS football player--I don't care how much "heart" he has. Heart does not beat press coverage.
The DT Laws is a decent player but I was surprised as hell that they took another DT--F-D is right. They are addicted to taking D-lineman.
The DE they picked up in the 3rd is 230. How many "situational" pass rushers can one team have? I thought that was what Chris Clemons was brought here for.
No 1st round picks for 2 years in a row--who are they the Patriots?

Clemons AND Juqua. And Cole. And Abiamiri. And Bryan Smith. And Darren Howard. And McDougle.
Now, realistically they will dump McDougle and Howard, but that's still a whole lot of resources invested into the D-line over the past couple years. I really feel like they've over-invested in the position.
The best part is it all rides on Abiamiri anyway. Clemons, Juqua, and Smith all have a zero percent chance of being effective as every down players or run players, so they'll have to take another DE in the near future if Abiamiri doesn't pan out.

You want to laugh?
Read GCOBBS take on the Knee Cap Pick.
Why Draft Jack Ikegwuono At All?
Written by Garry Cobb
I can't understand why the Eagles would draft a corner like Jack Ikegwuono who can't play until 2009.
This guy blew his knee out in January. He tore his ACL, MCL and tore up his knee cap. Many of the scouts didn't think he would go until the 4th or 5th rounds if he hadn't gotten hurt.
Not only that but he's got an ongoing criminal case because he stole an XBOX from another student's room.
You're going to tell me that this kid showed so much promise that he was worth drafting.

On Jackson, I'm a bit confused here. Is he 5'9" or 6'? I've seen 4 different sites that are giving three different heights for him. I wonder if they're measuring him with shoes on.

His actual height is 5'9" and some change. At the Combine he was 169 lbs., but he said he's up to about 175 now.

Why? The Eagles are loaded with Brady Round picks, so I'm looking for a couple future Hall of Famers here.

The way it stands right now, I can't in good conscience predict anything better than another 8-8 season. They need a WR or another playmaker in the backfield- this is really looking bad

As for the draft - I think it stinks.
The only way I'm pleased is if, like others here, they trade some of those picks and/or Lito to get Williams or Boldin.
And anyone that thinks Carolina finishes so poorly as to get Philly a top 10 pick is crazy. Carolina will go 8-8 just to stick it to the Eagles.
