F_D- what site are you gettin these from? The link would prove useful.
Im wondering also if these are handheld times or digital. Sometimes there's a little more than a slight diference.

Is it just me, or do most of the forty times at this draft seem abnormally fast (even the official times)?

Wow, this must be the first 'live' thread I've been on in more than a year. Is McKelvin now considered the top CB prospect?

I think these are electronic times, but they aren't "official". These are the ones the NFL Network displays immediately after they run.
I'm getting these from Combine Results.
I found this site a couple days ago and it's been GREAT for the combine. NFL.com is a terrible web site. The one linked above is extremely easy to use and very sortable, so I've been using it to reference 40 times when I'm doing my recaps (since they don't give "official" results on the air, normally).
The times for the DBs right now are unofficial, but they'll be updated again tomorrow when they are official.

As much crap as Mayock has taken over his McFadden ranking, and how generally annoying he is - I will give him this;
He's talked up Leodis McKelvin for MONTHS as the best CB out there and he was the only one I'd heard say it. Of course there's no way to tell if he is or not (the best) but I'll say that I first heard him mentioned as the best in the draft by Mayock.
The fact that there's apparently a rich rivalry with Kiper also enhances his appeal somewhat (Mayock's)...

I like Mayock (right or wrong). I think he gives it an honest assessment even if it isn't popular.
Mayock did drop McKelvin a couple weeks ago and named Brandon Flowers his #1 CB (with McKelvin #2), but he's been talking both up for some time.

The speech impediment, and his arrogance a couple years ago before he made his gig at NFL Network (When he'd be a guest on local shows here) kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
However, as a more accessible and way less pompass alternative to Mel "insider" Kiper Jr., I also respect and enjoy his insight.

You watching the combine coverage online at work F_D? Im about to become super chapped.
I know you said you don't get the NFL Network at home, but it seems like your watching live coverage during work??? TELL ME THIS IS THE CASE!?
I cant even get Eagles Live reliably...

No...I'm watching combine coverage at night.
I didn't have the NFL Network because I didn't think it was fair to pair $5 every month for NFL Total Access and 23 consecutive repeats of NFL Total Access every day, but I added the channel before the combine.

40 times are faster this year due to the new surface at the RCA dome. "They" said it was going to give a faster time than years past.

They been using FieldTurf for a few years there. I don't think this is a new surface.

Yes, but they still have value in some cases.
They are popular (I think) because they are an easy way to measure speed for fans who don't/can't watch Troy, but I think everyone knows football speed and pad speed are different stories.
The combine is essentially a measure of athleticism...not football prowess.

RE: McFadden and his childz- from PFT:
With rumors swirling that Arkansas running back Darren McFadden has fathered as many as four children with four different women, his agent, Ian Greengross, confirms that there are three children who might be McFadden's.
McFadden submitted to a paternity test for a child born last year, and it was determined that he wasn't the father. But a problem with the chain of custody will require McFadden to take the test again. (Apparently, Kramer spilled spaghetti sauce on the last one.)
Two other kids, one due to be born in July and the other one in August, were allegedly fathered by McFadden. Greengross told the Miami Herald that McFadden will submit to testing after the kids are born.
Greengross says that McFadden has no other children.

Forget "football" speed vs 40s. You line up, optimize your springing position to explode out of the stance, keep your body compact for the first 20 and then finish like a sprinter......um yeah....that's a real world indicator! Basically, if you run a fast 40 you are probably fast, but if you run it "slow" then I don't think you can rely on that. They were showing one of the WR who started on the right side of the line marking his lane and finished on the left. The commentators were saying how that hurt him.
Its like the vertical leap. Shit, how many times are you going to go from bunching up your legs perfectly underneath you and leaping straight up into the air.
Basically, these are the stupid "measureables". Like the retarded standardized exams, the combine is lame. It is hardly predictive of future performance.

RE: Flacco...
I just think his hype is going off the rails.
This was from Pee King today:
At the RCA Dome, Flacco threw the ball with the arm strength of Jeff George or Dan Fouts.
What the hell...really? They are just falling all over themselves for this guy and I think they are going waaaaaaaaay overboard.
NFN but there were at least 10-15 pro scouts in the stands this year at all Delaware home and away games. And they weren't there to see Omar Cuff. So people have been falling all over him for awhile.
I'll admit I'm a bit of a homer when it comes to Blue Hen football (brother played there in 76) and I go to a couple of games every year. I also watch any games that are on comcast. I think Flacco is the real deal and I'm not just blowing smoke up anybodys ass.
I think the scouts like his size 6"6", 235lbs and he does have a very good arm. I remember a play last year he was on the run being pressured and threw the ball down field 50 yards right on into traffic. Don't see to many guys who can make that play even it is in DIA footabll.
Will he be a super star in the NFL probably not but I feel he can be a very good Pro QB in the right system.
Of course Ryan Leaf was going to be the next Roger Staubach so who the fk knows.
I'm pulling for the guy.
