The Eagles can possibly get a good tight end in the second round this year. The TE group isn't rated well, and I think that's because the NFL has gotten to expect the Vernon Davis' and (insert Miami U TE name here) every year in the draft.

They could land the TEs from Notre Dame or USC in the second round and really solidify their position.

"Nova, cornerback is a position that rookies can definitely step right in. Plenty of good ones start strong"

I don't disagree IF the player you draft is better than they players you currently have. I don't think that a rookie would come in and be better than Sheldon right now.

My point is that on THIS team, I think that there are only a few positions that a Rookie could play that would an upgrade from their current roster. No doubt a CB could come in and play well on other teams, but not on this one.

Of course, the philosophy is Penn State-esque where only the seniors play until their knees go bad or their contracts are unsustainable or both.

Yeah, but even senile ol' JoePa was flexible in his philosophy recently when he had freshmen like Justin King and Derrick Williams.

It's really sad that it's easier to convince an octogenarian of the need for change than FB.

The TE outta ND's stock has taken a hit somewhat and now he's projected in rd 2, somewhere where Philly could bag him.

I agree Id like to see a TE selected. One with more upside than Schoboat (read: Me) or Celek (tho I like him and am not as pessimistic as Im readin you to be F_D).

Seth, I like Celek just fine and think he's a nice young prospect. I think he showed (in limited opportunities last year) that he's decent after the catch, which was a flat out shocker for me.

I'm just saying I don't know if he's the answer after LJ yet. I'd like to have a contingency plan drafted this year so you're at least increasing your odds of having a solution ready when LJ leaves. Further, the worst thing that could happen is you end up with 2 TEs who can play and that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

I think a CB could come in an play nickel for them this year and the nickel CB plays at least 1/3 of the snaps every game.

If you can get a guy who adds to your nickel package and (hopefully) can help in the return game, you've helped yourself at a minimum of 3 positions.

I tend to think the right CB could contribute to this team more than any other player at any other position they could draft this year.

I imagine you mean "if Lito is traded." I think it's going to be tough for a rookie, unless he's unbelievably talented, to crack this lineup. I stand by Brown as a top-notch corner, although I think he could be a very respectable SS and wouldn't mind seeing him there. He can hit, he can go after the QB, and he doesn't get beat all that often. Plus, he plays every game.

He's not flashy like Lito or Samuel, but he's consistent and that's more than enough for a nickel CB. Or a #2 CB for that matter. I would feel okay with Sheldon Brown covering most receivers in the NFL.

Keeping in mind the article on PhiladelphiaEagles a few weeks ago about the difference in skills between Kick Returner and Punt Returner, I wonder if Kris Wilson, the fullback/running back, has any punt-returning skills?

Half the poorly worded, unedited and grammar challenged 'stories' on his site end up in a BLANK WHITE SCREEN when you click on them to give it a go, readin what he has to say.

Like "The Eagles dont know what they're going to do in the second round, but I will GUARANTEE YOU that what they do in the 1st round will impact what they do in the second round".

Really?

Holy smokes!

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that a deal is done for the former Chiefs draft pick, who was stuck for four years behind Tony Gonzalez. We’d previously heard that it will be a three-year contract.

We’ve also heard that Wilson’s primary position in Philly might end up being fullback, and that his choice of jersey numbers could reflect that.

Well it seems that FB is intent on uppin the Special Teams play and really (MAYBE JUST MAYBE) tryin to find a quality FB>???

You know, if he really wanted to improve the FB play, the place I'd start looking is at "fullbacks" instead of defensive tackles and TE's. I guess that's why I'm in the cheap seats, though.

I don't know if it signals anything, but Marty Morningweg did use the fullback in his offense. Cory Schlesinger in Detriot, Fred Beasley in San Fran (and others).

Beasley's role is interesting because of the RB he was paired with - Charlie Garner. Garner's utility is similar to Westbrook's, in some ways. When MM left San Fran, Beasley never saw the same amount of action in the rushing or passing game.

Who knows? Maybe it signals an attempt to bring in some wrinkles. Tapeh was supposed to be that versitile fullback and was drafted the first year MM was OC/Asst head coach.

I think Tapeh would have been great for his role, but I'm guessing the dislocated hip is a tough one to come back from and ever have the same speed/power.

heard on the radio late today that wilson's main role on this team will be TE. FB/h-Back
on an emergency basis only.

imo, it buys the eagles a yr where they can count on LJ, but evaluate celek and wilson as potential starters for '09. at least wilson has played TE in the NFL.

like seth said, who would you rather have, schoboat or......ok, anyone.

Okay, so here's the skinny on Kris Wilson.

- From Lancaster, PA.
- Attended Math U.
- 61st overall pick in 2004 by the Chiefs.
- He's 6'2" 251 lbs.
- Ran a 4.62 at the combine.
- 35" vertical leap.
- Compares to Fred Davis from USC (short/athletic).

He's a bit of a 26 year old tweener, as far as I can tell. He played FB for the Chiefs (mostly) because they had a need there, but he's essentially a short TE.

In the last 2 years as a 2nd TE and FB, he had 39 catches for 312 yards and 4 TDs.

The Eagles signed him to a 3 year deal as a TE and they, apparently, plan on actively using him (not just a depth guy). My guess based on what I've been reading is this is one of those guys they wished they could have drafted, they are still kind of in love with him, and they think his only reason for lack of production is being stuck behind Tony G (more opportunities = more production).

The way they are pimping him rules TE out of the draft picture, IMO.

Nothin new there- thats all the same stuff they said yesterday and made all the news outlets.

I dont know if they still dont take a chance on a TE, but maybe later than initially thought.

who was more disappointing..Mcmullin or Fred Ex.

I know fred ex was a first rounder and Billy was a 3rd. But at least they got SOMETHING out of freddy. 4th and 26th, 2004 div and NFC Champ. games. They got absolutely NOTHING out of mcmullin.

I would have to go with Mcmullin.

People will still talk about Fred-Ex 20 years from now, in conjunction with the 4-26 play, the ridiculous nicknames, the haircut... even if they mostly talk about him in jest or negatively, he WILL be remembered.

By contrast, I had forgotten McMullen's first name until I read it on your post...

With McMullen, you could remember him effectively being swapped for Hank Baskett.

Fraud Ex has 4th and 26, but is also responsible for stealing Urkel away from Penny. Or something like that.

Both don't exactly have stellar careers, and realistically, it's a wonder they've gotten as far as they did.
