Also, what teams can afford the $10 million or so he'd want guaranteed this year?

I think you've got Pope on the brain this morning. What are you talking about?

You give him whatever money you need to up front and you prorate the bonus. You pay him $18 million in bonus money and prorate it over 5 years or whatever.

Where are the current salary cap figures for all teams? I bet there are a dozen teams who could afford Chad Johnson this year.

I know how it works, but he's getting something like $8 million guaranteed this year. I'm working on the assumption he'd want a little more.

I don't know where a current list of teams' cap figures is, that's why I'm axing where all these teams are

Didn's Samuels restructure his deal to do that? Can the Bengals ask a guy to restructure his deal to get worse? That's my point

Again, it's not impossible, but it's not this annoying thing. It's something they'll have to work hard to sell their players on.

Again, for Andrews it would be a long term deal. He's the franchise guy now and if you sign him to a long term deal (which he wants anyway), you free up a ton of cash.

In terms of other players restructuring (which I hadn't even considered), it's not a chore to do it. Restructuring for a player means more guaranteed money and they always do it when asked without a hint of hesitation.

If they go to Palmer and say "look...we need to reduce your cap charge so we can unload this cancer", they are offering to guarantee parts of his contract that weren't previously guaranteed. That means more money guaranteed for Palmer (which is good), a lump sum check he can immediately invest (which is great for him financially based on the principles or time and money...especially on that scale), and the Bungles save money on the cap this year by prorated that converted salary over the next few years.

Players LOVE restructuring to save cap room.

He's getting $3 million this year. If he signs a new deal with a team, he'll get anywhere between $10 million and $20 million this season with a cap charge for the new team somewhere around $4 or $5 million, I'm guessing.

If they love it so much why don't they marry it?

Seriously, it doesn't happen very frequently that a player will restructure to unload a top 10 player at his position, cancer or not (btw, Palmer is one of the guys that likes ocho)

He's getting over $6 million this year. Where are your numbers from, Fannie Mae?

I don't think Palmer would be thrilled (specifically) about losing Chad, but no one wants a cancer on the team (and Johnson completely threw Palmer under the bus yesterday) and everyone loves more money.

I don't care who you are...someone offering to give you a couple million dollars to help them unload Ocho is good news.

Again, we'll see, but I can't think of once instance of a player restructuring to get worse

I'm not saying it's impossible. I think you and I just disagree on the likelihood of it, and how "annoying" the cap is to deal with.

I'd say 95% of the roster doesn't care about "better" or "worse" (which is relative anyway). They care about getting paid. The only guys who care about better and worse (more than their paycheck) are guys who have made all the money they'll ever need.

Again, we're talking about them walking up to a player and saying "I'd like to give you a check for a couple million dollars today" and you expect them to say "I won't accept your money if you're planning on getting rid of our locker room cancer!"

It's silly.

And just think that's not very likely, and something they would have done already. We' just at a standstill here and repeating ourselves (although that's why I'm at the top of the leaderboard)

2nd place is just the first loser, f-d.
