I think I'll do one for baseball. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with round #143

I'm going to put an early guess in for "pitcher with arm/elbow/shoulder questions". Seems a little for them to be taking that kind of player, but I'm sure they took a couple similar shots at the top.

If you have looked at the new stuff from Ocho, it is clear Rosenwhore has pushed the "Red Button".

How did Ownes finally get the Eagles to break and send him home? Who did he go after?
#5 handled the storm at first, but eventually told the organization, "ITs him or me". The way out of town for a disgruntled WR is to go after the sacred cow.

Right about this time in 2005, Owens began chirping about Mcnabb, by October, he was publicly campaigning for Brett Favre. In the end, that's what did him in.

I'd love them to get Allen, but I don't think they should. The cost in picks and contract probably aren't worth it for them because DE isn't a huge need.

If I was a team like the Redskins, I might be all over this (depending on the price).

URLACHER SUDDENLY SOUNDS LIKE CHAD
Posted by Mike Florio on April 18, 2008, 9:38 a.m.
There’s a strange wind blowing in Chicago. And it apparently has come straight from Cincinnati.

Per Mike Mulligan of the Chicago Sun-Times, there are rumors making the rounds that Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher has asked to be traded, and has threatened to retire due to chronic neck and back problems. All because he wants his long-term deal, which runs into the next decade, to be extended. With, of course, a big pile of new money coming his way.

One unnamed source told Mulligan that Urlacher’s tactics won’t work. ”Urlacher has no leverage,” the source said. ”He wants to be paid, right? If he takes a medical [retirement], then he’s got to prove he’s hurt. If he does that, he’ll never get paid. They’re not going to trade him. All he can do is be disruptive.

”It’s a joke,” Mulligan’s source added. “Players never walk away from millions. They threaten to, but they never do it.”

The joke is that Urlacher would sign such a long-term deal in 2003, when it was (or should have been) obvious that the salary cap would continue to climb, and that in turn the relative value of Urlacher’s contract would shrink. And the joke is on both sides; the Bears shouldn’t have locked him up for so long, and the player shouldn’t have wanted to be locked up for so long.

I think the Chiefs know that they cannot get two first rounders for jared Allen (otherwise, someone would have offered a contract already), so they'll likely deal below that. I could see a package deal, like Lito, a second this year, and a first next year. Truth be told, I think that K.C. is very interested in a mid-late 1st round pick this year so that they can grab a top tier tackle and Matt Ryan together, so the Iggles first rounder is actually attractive, in this case.
The downside for the Iggles is that, unless they manage to keep Lito Sheppard or that first rounder (where they could probably nab a top-rated CB), their secondary would suffer at the cost of the D-Line.
However, who wouldn't want a DE stable consisting of two bona-fide superstars (Allen and Cole), two situational pass rushers (Clemons and Thomas/Parker), and a 2007 2nd rounder (Abiamiri)?

I felt the same way a while back in this thread AZ, and noted how they need lineman (one of these tackles will be there at 19)--

If Lito and 19 and another high pick (next yr more than likely) landed the Birds Allen, of course it would be a huge upgrade.

But it isn't a need (dire one) anylonger. I get the sense its about quantity more than an overwhelming stud at the position, where Jim's concenred.
Keep the fresh, fastballs comin at the QB.

With the price you'd have to pay for Allen, and TO Allen, and given his skill level (apparent)- how much are you going to be subbing him out>?

All that adds up to me that its not the best fit.
If they're goin to package Lito and a pick(s)- regardless which ones, i still sit here praying its for Roy Williams, tho I realize it's not ever goin to happen.

Seth,
I understand it's not a dire need, but the 2008 Eagles have a couple options in front of them.

March forward with new draft picks that won't see the field for two years, with the same offense as last season, and with some slight upgrades on defense and special teams (Boiman, Klecko should help that unit, which needs it).

Or they can make one side of their team dominant and see if that can carry-over to playoffs and playoff wins.

Going in with the current roster gives the Eagles no better than 10 wins. Upgrade the pass rush considerably and put playmakers in the secondary and you stand a chance to winning those away games in the playoffs.

I dunno. I guess you can call me nostalgic, but adding Allen would give the Eagles the best defensive line they've had since someone named White played here. Add in a stable linebacker corps and a more than decent secondary (while I would prefer to see Hanson at the dime, he's a better nickel than most give him credit for), and you have one hell of a defense. Given that there is no true first round talent for wideouts and safeties (the team's only glaring needs, IMO, which merits a separate discussion), the only downsides to such a move are:
1) Trading one area of inane strength + a pick (the back four-five) in order to create another area of inane strength (the front four). However, I value the front four over the defensive backfield, and I think that the Eagles should, as well.
2) The cost necessary to sign Allen to a contract. However, if we're coming up on the end of the McNabb era (as everyone appears to believe), maybe it's time to start reevaluating financial priorities. After all, even if Kolb is the shit, he can't cost as much as McNabb at this stage of the game.

As far as team needs, I'm not willing to declare the OL as big an emergency as most. While Justice may have flunked his first LT test, at the very least, he'll become a serviceable RT, which is what Runyan is right now. As for the left side, I'm betting either Andrews or Herremans can fill the role admirably. Why the FO takes tackle prospects who have proven they can play the left side for a few games (Herremans, Hicks, et al) and force them to be less than great guards is beyond me. Certainly, were those replacements to happen, the Eagles would have to add depth, but, guess what? There's a second day in the draft this year. Oh, and there's a draft next year, too.

EAGLES EYEBALL ROBERTSON
Posted by Mike Florio on April 18, 2008, 8:36 p.m.
With the New York Jets desperate to trade defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft, before having to pay him a $3 million roster bonus, the Jets have found another potential trade partner.

After failed talks with the Bengals and stalled talks with the Broncos, the Jets could be sending Robertson to the Eagles.

According to Geoff Mosher of the News Journal, Robertson recently visited Philly, and its resident football team.

Working out a trade with the Jets should be a problem — a third-round pick, a fifth-round pick, and a case of beef jerkey should get that part of the deal done. The problem is Robertson’s contract. Less than two months from getting a free and clear release, Robertson has no real incentive to re-do the deal, unless his new team is ready to fork over the cash.

-----------------------

Interesting....adding a guy of that ilk to add to the rotation, assuming they could create a new deal that he'd be ok with, cos otherwise, whats the incentive for the Birds to feel that they've actually made an investment?

But to part with NOT MUCH (IMO) to obtain him?
Why the hell not?

I think PFT missed a big piece of this trade...The Jets have been one of the main teams linked to the lito trade talks.

I would not be a fan of a lito for Robertson trade
(unless of course the Jets threw in more compensation). Lito is 2x the play maker Robertson is and the Eagles dont really need another underachieving DT on this team. Especially at the risk of preventing them from getting any WR of value.

Kinda an update on this, I guess. Robertson supposedly had a physical yesterday, which would imply a deal is done.

Very interesting. I think Robertson is a good player and still has a great deal of potential in a 4-3 D.

The contract situation will be interesting, though. Is he a 2 year rental or are they going to extend him?
