Well any hope of the Panther's pick next yr being in the top half of the draft is about shot.
They've added to their Defense by signing Darwin Walker today.
Andy was dupped!

The receiving dilemma is over. Andy Reid is in heated discussions with JBJ and Jaws over....Larry Brackins.
Said Andy, "If he can dominate Dallas in the AFL, surely he will dominate Dallas in the NFL, right?"
And to think "we" doubted they would bring in a big time WR! How foolish of "us"!!!
Yes, 8-8 is looking real good, again.

According to Andy now that the draft is over the Eagles gun is "fully loaded" and they are ready to make a Super Bowl run.

Looks like 2009 is the year of the rusty .22 pistol again!
What will get jammed more: Andy's gun or the entire WR core?

I guess it's a sound strategy. If you take EVERY FREAKIN PLAYER in next year's draft, they're bound to hit on a couple

SALARY CAP REFRESHER REGARDING TRADES
Posted by Mike Florio on April 30, 2008, 8:17 a.m.
We’ve gotten plenty of inquiries over the past day regarding the cap consequences to the Bengals of a possible trade of receiver Chad Johnson to the Eagles.
The inquiries primarily have come from our friends in Philly, and our own Taco Bill tells us that it’s a major source of confusion there.
As a preliminary matter, none of this matters. The Bengals won’t be trading Johnson, barring a dramatic change of heart from team president Mike Brown.
But if a trade were to happen, the cap hit would hinge on whether a deal is done before or after June 1. Before June 1, the Bengals would take the full acceleration for all unallocated signing bonus money. In Johnson’s case, it’s around $8 million. The number as a practical matter would be offset by the $3 million in base salary that Johnson is owed this year, knocking the net cap hit down to $5 million.
After June 1, the Bengals would carry in 2008 only the signing bonus allocation that they’d otherwise show if Johnson were on the team. The rest of the signing bonus money would hit the cap in 2009.
Here’s an example. If a player receives a five-year contract with a $5 million signing bonus, the signing bonus applies to the cap at a rate of $1 million per season. So if the player is traded before June 1 in the second year, the cap charge for that season would be$4 million. After that season, the player would be off the books.
If the player is traded after June 1, the cap hit would drop to $1 million for the current year. The next year, the team would take a $3 million cap hit.
It has been argued by some that the Bengals couldn’t absorb the $5 million net cap hit by trading Johnson before June 1. As we pointed out on Saturday, however, the $5 million could easily be offset by doing a so-called “simple restructuring” to quarterback Carson Palmer’s contract, knocking his $7.75 million base salary down to the minimum and converting the rest of it to a signing bonus.
Again, however, Johnson won’t be traded unless the Bengals want to trade him. And with the Redskins now out of the picture, someone else will have to come up with two first-round picks and possible more to even get the Bengals to consider reconsidering.

I don't get the "simple restructuring" part. How can someone's cap hit be redirected to another player's contract?

I think they are just saying a minor tweak to Palmer's deal would greatly reduce his cap hit this year, thus clearing out enough room for any cap hit they incur for trading Ocho.

POTENTIAL 1st rounder. Sheesh.
Either way, no one is going to give up more than 2 1sts (or a 1st and potential 1st) for a problematic receiver that's only concerned about getting paid.

I really don't want Chad Johnson to be an Eagle. His diva like act is just too much, and out weighs his talent. Let him go to Wash, and play for another 8-8 team.

At this point, I wouldn't give up anything for Roy Williams or Chad Johnson.
From all of their actions, this team does not seem interested in making a serious run this year. I also have to believe that the F.O. believes McNabb will be here after next season--when...wait for it....they will make their "real" super bowl run with DMac and a half dozen 2nd round "fastballs".
RW will be a FA next season--they can get him without giving up anything other than precious salary-cap space (which they have saved on, not habing taken 1st round picks the last 2 years).
If they trade Lito for pick(s), they will have the ability to trade out of the 1st round twice and take 6 picks in the 2nd round, saving them even more $.
I saw Sal Palantonio on some show and he said that the Eagles are trading out of the first round as a way of revolutionizing the salary-cap. He believes that they are able to save $ on their 1st round picks and will spend that $ on top-line FAs when they become available.
I think the idea has some merit, but Banner is always looking for ways to save a dollar.

There is so much BS in the following, it is necessary to render it in blue:
Per PFT:
MCNABB CLARIFIES “PLAYMAKERS” COMMENT
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 3, 2008, 7:51 p.m.
In the NFL, the word “playmakers” always seems to cause controversy, whether it’s the title of an ESPN show that infuriates the league office or the name of a bar owned by an NFL player being investigated in a shooting.
When Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said the team needed to add more playmakers, it caused a mini-controversy because it was widely regarded as a plea for a better wide receiving corps than the one he has now. But at the team’s minicamp practice today, McNabb insisted that’s not what he meant.
“I said playmakers. I didn’t say receivers,” McNabb said. “I said guys that could come in and make plays for us.”
But did the Eagles, in McNabb’s view, get those playmakers? Asked if he was disappointed the Eagles haven’t added the elite wide receiver they’ve been lacking since Terrell Owens was shipped out of town, McNabb stressed that he’s not the arbiter of such things.
“It’s not about me being me disappointed or excited,” McNabb said. “The guys that we have here made plays for us last year. People forget that Kevin Curtis had over 1,000 yards receiving. That’s the second time that’s happened since I’ve been here, the first was obviously T.O.”
Whether or not McNabb thinks the team has all the playmakers it needs, coach Andy Reid thinks all the pieces are in place.
“I think with the players I have in the room, that we are ready to compete for a championship,” Reid said. “It’s that simple.”
Andy Reid and "It's that simple"= George Bush and "Mission Accomplished"
Talk about bad comedy. Freaking Reid should be on the hot seat with crap statements like that. I'm starting a petition.

Sheldon Brown:
"I'll be honest with you," he said. "I love it when we have two great ones (cornerbacks). Because I get to stay inside and play nickel. I get to rush the quarterback. I get to do a lot of different things in the slot. I hate it out there (on the outside). It's boring. I like it inside.
The last couple of years, we've had people down and I've had to stay outside more. But before that, I was usually inside (against three-wide receiver sets). I've done that my whole career."

That's just weird. Sheldon is always pretty honest no matter the subject (even if he's wrong), but I don't understand him sometimes.
He's a CB...who hates to play the outside...and doesn't want to move to safety.
Huh?
