That is both ODD and FINE BY ME.

If it's a matter of him steppin up to take some heat off his boy and really put the team 1st- hail to Brown.

Just from his quotes etc, as FD mentioned- he's usually forthwright even when he's wrong or exhibiting a seemingly unfounded militant attitude at times- you have to take him at his word.

Somebody here at wk. told me that Brown spoke to Eskn and said he would play Safety if the team wanted him to and asked him too, as he's played there in college?????

Anyone who listens able to confirm? I thought it was common knowledge that he wasnt goin to play safety, and thats b/c he didnt want to-period.

I didn't hear that, but I think the word out there is Hugh Douglas has said Sheldon told him he will not play safety.

I don't know if it's accurate, but that's the one source I remember. The problem is a lot of people in the media parrot things they've heard as though they know it for a fact, first hand. G-cobb is world famous for this.

I have no idea what Sheldon think about a future at safety, but based on the fact that he likes playing inside, in the slot, and doesn't like being on an island, it sounds like playing safety would be something he'd enjoy.

G Cobb---

Its like he reads PFT.com and then says in an 'article' he 'wrote'- "I've learned that ..."

NTFF!

Seen it a few times.

That's what makes it so difficult to determine fact vs. fiction. You go to a website and they lead you to believe they have inside sources. They report a story that's a complete fabrication OR they repeat someone else's story as though it's their own.

G-cobb does that CONSTANTLY with the "it has come to my attention..." and it's just him "reporting" the existence of someone else's rumor. It's even worse than the first story, but it implies more than one "news" source (not connected in any way) are reporting the same story from different sources. it lends credence to a rumor that may have started on a message board.

Blast magazine is awful, too. As far as I can tell, it's a made up online magazine that reports on Indie rock, Porno, and Philadelphia sports news. They went from not having a sports department, to inventing stories, to reporting on stories they've read. Reporting the "breaking news" on 4/23 that the Eagles are targeting Williams, Otah, and Devin Thomas with their first pick. Those players were on the radar more than a month before they "reported" it and the Eagles passed on Thomas TWICE.

It's just bullshit.

Brown's a more physical cover guy, and in the slot, he has to follow motions, and bump the guy a bit more. Sometimes, the guys on the outside play a bit more zone, and are less phyiscal. In the slot, he gets more action against guys that may come across the middle, he can play run or blitz inside from a nickel package.

That's one of the reasons I'd like to see him move to Safety. The 46 scheme has one safety playing near the line more than the traditional 4-3 or 3-4 lineups, and much more than a cover 2. He's going to get slower as he gets older, so moving now would solidify his role with the team, allow the two speed corners to stay outside while he gets to bang into people in the middle of the field.

If he really doesn't want to be called a Safety, can the coaches just call it so they have a LCB, RCB and I(inside)CB or C(center)CB? Then he'd still be a Cornerback, but he'd basically do the same thing that a safety doesn in the system. Kind of like what H-Backs do in Washington instead of being Tight Ends.

70% of the defensive plays have 3 corners on the field. If Brown moves to safety, we'll be missing that 3rd corner in the slot on 70% of the plays.

All these years watching Eagles on TV and I never even noticed that 70% of the plays had 3 corners.

So why do we need all these linebackers?

Heh, if the Eagles play 3 cornerbacks and one safety, is the 3rd cornerback a cornerback or a safety?

nickle, dime, tampa-2, tampa-zero, 3-4, 4-3, joker position,... One thing I am sure, the announcers won't call it out, and the camera won't pick out the rotated players. But at least Reid was there today to let me know that it all depends on which team they play.

All I am saying is that I am not sure it really matters what his "official" position is.

Too early for a "Camp Thread", so Im puttin this in here....

Read the other day how Spuds was shocked not to see Max Jean Gillis not compete w/ the 1st string line, and then confiirmation by Spuds that he showed up at 370 lbs.

Dude, what does this say about dude's work ethic?

Spuds chimed in about 3 posts down the thread confirming it. Good LORD. Where are guys work ethics> ? He had / STILL has a chance to take the starting gig>?????!!!!!

He was listed as 358lbs last season, so it's only 12 pounds more. That's like a guy that's 200 lbs coming in about 7 lbs heavier than playing weight. I wouldn't be too worried about it if the guy -can- play at around 360, but I'd like to see him thinner.

They want him around 340, they've told him that, and they are dangling a starting job in front of his face.

With all that motivation, he shows up a couple months later having GAINED 12 lbs.?

It's pathetic.

the point is not to split c hairs about bieng a couple lbs over wieght, rather not having the initiative to realize a staring gig is on the line, take bull by horn, and work his ass off to come in to WO as a monster. Clearly, he doesn't get it. If he comes in as a monster, and wins the LG spot, he would have a huge contract within his grasp. I stead he is trying to just get by on natural talent.

After Andrews rookie year, he came into camp solid as a rock, dedicating himself to losing wieght. Cetainly it has paid massive dividends to team and self.

It really is disapointing. The kid has a ton of promise and I had him as the SLG. Let's hope he got the point.

I read an article a few weeks back about how Jamaal Jackson is training his ass off this off season so he can keep his starting job. He's lost over 20 lbs so far. Why Jean Gilles can't put down the tastycakes for a mult-million dollar contract is beyond me.

The things that's sad is above average guards (like Derrick Dockery, for instance) get $50 million in FA. He's schedule to be a FA in 2010.

If he has 2 good years starting for the Eagles under his belt, he'll probably get something in that neighborhood. His whole future is riding on these next 2 seasons and he's gaining weight?

btw, i know we have gone over this at ength, but every time I go to Gcob.com, I get a huge chuckle. EVERY POST he has is taken off of PFT and written within 30 minutes of Florio's site. He simply adds the grammatical errors to put the "GNASTY" spin on it.

What a goof.

Speaking of PFT, they make no bones about embarrassing the Burger King.

It's tough to see some people defend him as "knowledgeable", when for a while he didn't realize Cincinnati played in the AFC.

Regarding Max, it's May. Sure, training camp begins 'soon' and whatnot, but after watching an episode of the biggest loser, I'm sure 12 pounds is nothing for him to lose in camp.

If he wants to. Make money that is.

Just tell him that in 10 years, he can own his own tasty cake factory plant and he'll have all the motivation he needs.

At his size, he could easily lose 30 lbs by the beginning of training camp. Just work out with weights, walk a couple of miles, and don't eat anything sweet while passing up sodas for water.

I don't think it's impossible for him to lose the weight, but the Eagles are obviously pissed at him.

It's just really immature/unprofessional to do the opposite of what's good for you and what the team has asked of you.

This is just funny. I get the point, but Eckel is essentially suggesting the Eagles throw a 1st, Lito, a mid-round pick, Ryan Moats, Jason Avant/Reggie Brown, and anything else it takes to get Roy Williams.

The two interesting parts of the silly ideas are:

1. Roy Williams admitting he didn't think he'd be a Lion at this point.

2. The player Eckel mentions that was told he might be part of a Lito trade package.

Let's also not forget that his agent will be looking for quite a bit of coin, something the Birds might be afraid of paying.

It's a ton to give up for a one-year (possibly 2 with the franchise tag) rental. You'd have to be convinced that RW would help make this offense go, not just for McNabb, but for Kolb.

And with the way FB regards his scheme/receivers, I don't see that happening. Besides, they got LJ Smith back! That's good for another 28 TDs.
