I don't get you 736. You talk about "the window" is getting smaller and smaller- yet you draw the line for a proven pass rusher at a third rounder?-FB
I honestly think you have me mixed up with some other poster re: the Window shrinking.
I do not believe in this at all.
I realize many here do, im just not among them.
I think that say what you will, this ownership/FO group can be EXTREMELY frustrating- but 1 thing they HAVE done is turn over a roster rather quietly, and as long as you have that- which i Think they do- that is good young players to insert, and a franchise QB (which to date, McNabb STILL IS for all his shortcomings)- the window is still a sliding glass door and wide open.
In fact, I dont buy the whole "WINDOW" thing either.
What would you say the window was on the Giants last yr?
Youth on D, but Eli was by all accounts down to his last out in NYC. If they faltered and he continued to show no progress as a leader and a QB, theyd be headin to camp in 08 with questions re: the QB of the future and he'd have been on borrowed time--- window closed/closing.
I also believe that whether you think Kolb can be a Franchise QB or not- they do and are preparing and planning as if he is one and in the wings.
Theyre puttin things in place now for that day when they transition (again, in their minds- and for all we know they could be right) from one franchise QB to the next.
I dont think a window's closing. Or exists.
And as for JT- the guy's heart (IMO) is not in Football anymore. He wants to be the next "Rock".
He's got tinsel town in his sights. As such, I think he's goin to leave some team high and dry on a whim and bail either after 2008 or 2009.
Dont forget he'll want $$$ to play too.
So, while Im all for them adding him, it would be just another big signing for a D that already Figures to be very fun to watch this yr- id wanna do it without giving up a lot in return and be left holdin the bag when he sets off to do Disney movies etc.

In his whole career- has Taylor been a malcontent? Whined? Pouted?
Remember that this situation was brought on by Parcells attitude, not Taylor's.
What evidence do you have other than the DWTS thing, that Taylor is suddenly going to decide to retire on a whim? Especially if he came to a team with a chance to contend for a playoff berth?

I never said he was a malcontent- but he's 33 yrs old man- and has openly said his pursuits lie in Hollywood, as has his agent.
How long you think he's goin to play man?

One year.
But he's twice the pass rusher that Kearse was- and you can never have too much defense, right?
Why not stop accumulating picks that they're just going to trade away anyway and strengthen your team THIS YEAR for a change?

I'm with Seth on this one, you don't give up a 2nd rounder for a guy who doesn't really have the heart to play. His focus is elsewhere really, otherwise the Dolphins would want to keep him.
Tuna's moving people and making Miami his team now. JT isn't his guy, so he's making a move. As we saw with the whole lito thing though, when you're trying to unload someone, the market for them falls.
JT moves to a team making a move to the postseason for a 2nd rounder, no more no less, and you can book that.

I'm not saying- GO GET HIM or anything. But I can easily see him going straight to Dallas and him all in the Eagles backfield- and we don't want that now, do we?

Tell the truth, I'd take my chances and fuck the Tuna. He's too expensive for them to keep and too much is being asked from teams in return. I'd say, let Dallas/Redskins waste their top round precious. It isn't as if the Birds will win the SB this year anyway.

Personally, I think that the deal, as with any, hinges on compensation. The question at hand essentially is: are you willing to let Parker or your third rounder go (for the rest of his career), plus a draft pick, plus salary, for one-two years of Jason Taylor.
Kinda depends on what that draft pick and that salary is, don't you think? Miami can't keep him, so establish a relationship with the team and the agent. Then, play the waiting game. Miami's demands are posturing to avoid getting screwed. Taylor's demands are posturing to avoid getting dealt to someplace like Detroit.
Philly would be good for Taylor, enabling him to increase his national exposure dramatically. Meanwhile, imagine a DE rotation of Cole, Taylor, Abiamiri, Clemons, and the new guy. Kinda crazy, huh?

Another article about DeSean Jackson.
Frankly, I do not understand why everyone keeps thinking this guy is going to contribute on offense this season. Even if he displays some superhuman ability to wrap his mind around the massive playbook, and his miniature size doesn't prove to be a detriment, Reid just isn't going to let the kid play a major role in his rookie season. That's just not how it's done in this system, and the system is never wrong. End of story.
Oh, and here's the gem that gives you every reason to believe that this kid is a headcase-in-the-making:
"The problem is that Jackson has this tendency to act like a kid who thinks it’s cool to sit in the back of class and stare at the ceiling tiles with a disaffected attitude. During every individual drill, Jackson was the last in line to do the exercise. When wide receivers coach David Culley stopped to talk to the group, Jackson was the first (and often the only) one to take off his helmet. He looked off in every direction except directly at Culley.
About the only time Jackson seemed to pay full attention was when Reid was observing up close. In the NFL, you have to work harder than just when the big boss is looking." link

Terrell Owens agrees to four-year deal with Dallas Cowboys
Terrell Owens will have a chance to retire a Cowboy, just as he has wished.
The Dallas Cowboys and the veteran receiver agreed to a four-year deal on Monday through 2011, according to two sources.
Owens, who turns 35 in December, was entering the final year of the three-year, $25 million deal he received in 2006 and was scheduled to receive a $3 million roster bonus Tuesday in addition to a base salary of $4 million.
In two seasons with the Cowboys, Owens has 166 catches for 2,535 yards and 28 touchdowns. He holds the team’s season record with 15 touchdown receptions, set last year. In 15 games in 2007, Owens caught 81 passes for 1,355 yards and was named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth time in his career. He also had four straight 100-yard receiving games. His 45 100-yard games are tied for third most among active players (Indianapolis’ Marvin Harrison leads with 59).
Owens came to the Cowboys after much-publicized run-ins with management, coaches and teammates in San Francisco and Philadelphia. After a tumultuous 2006 season, in which he fought a broken hand, torn tendons in a finger and, at times, the coaching staff, Owens became a leader of sorts under new coach Wade Phillips, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and receivers coach Ray Sherman.
In 11 seasons, Owens ranks ninth in NFL history with 882 catches for 13,070 yards and 129 touchdowns. Only former teammate Jerry Rice (197) and Cris Carter (130) have more touchdown catches in NFL history. With another 13-touchdown catch season in 2008, he would join Rice as the only receivers in league history with eight seasons of 13 or more TD grabs.
wow.

Talon, its the same article about Jackson I posted.
That is the lone report of him behaving that way whereas everyone at camp and what lil' you can see on their homepage vids show a diferent story.
Also, normally youre right with regards to Reid and his rookie WRs but even in that story Reids quoted saying that unlike with other rookie WRs, they ARE goin to have him on the field a lot.

He deserves it. TO has certainly played well enough to get paid like the Javon Walkers and Dante Halls of the league. It's just a shame that the money isn't coming from the Eagles' coffers instead of Dallas'.
Bottom line: the dude can play. His dedication is almost unmatched. Sadly, so is the instability of his psyche.

let me be clear---
TO is no ordinary 34 year old. The guy has a body that can play for another 3 years at a very high level. Add Newman, barber, Pacman (who by the way, WILL be reinstated), and Felix Jones, and I would say that the Cowboys have had a more productive offseason than the Eagles. This is a team that dominated the NFC in 2007 and improved/secured major areas of need in the offseason.
The eagles better get a WR.......

Good for him. I didn't think he'd finish out his 3 years when they signed him.
If he finishes this deal with the Boys, he'll have made an additional $7-$8 million over a 7 year period than if he would have stayed with the Birds and he will have officially had reason to laugh at people for getting his money.
If he doesn't finish the deal, I still get to laugh at him.

FD, you know the Eagles weren't going to pay him those last years' astronomical numbers. They'd low ball him in negotiations and it'd just be the delaying of his departure by one year. Sadly, in 7 games, he had more catches than anyone else on the Birds' roster that fateful (and ludicrous) year of his suspension.

You think they wouldn't pay him $8 or $9 million per if he's producing at his current level?
The contract was somewhat backloaded, but not to the degree that they wouldn't pay him if he was producing.
How many times have the Eagles ever released a guy who was producing for contract reasons?
I can't think of one scenario, to be honest.

"I've been thinking a lot lately about what I could do if I just played and didn't talk. Things would be a whole lot easier on me. And think of the numbers I could put up. Then what would people say about me?...It's the reinvention of Ocho Cinco," he says. "I'm dead serious. People need to take me as I am because I just don't give a [expletive] anymore. That's how I'd sum up my attitude for the next season."
f-d, I'd say this definitely edges him past T.O.

I think it once again begs the question why wouldn't they restructure it earlier, FD? I realize that the Birds have rarely offered contracts so backloaded (even though many of us speculated that it was the reason McNabb would be shown his walking papers at the end of this year).
The Birds generally are rarely in that position.
