I think it once again begs the question why wouldn't they restructure it earlier, FD? I realize that the Birds have rarely offered contracts so backloaded (even though many of us speculated that it was the reason McNabb would be shown his walking papers at the end of this year).

The Birds generally are rarely in that position.

Because the ink was barely dry on the first contract, I guess.

If he would have played the contract out, he'd have made just $7 million less than what he'll make now (if he plays this extension out) over the same period of time. He would have MORE than made up for that in endorsements alone.

A million per over 6 years isn't worth going through what he went through, IMO.

FD, you are right about the difference in pay. Of course, 6-7 million is alot of money. Nevertheless, does HE know he'd have gotten the same money with the Birds even if he completed the term of his contract? Do we even know if he'd have been extended (if his first contract were honored)?

I think the mishandling of the TO drama was probably the worst thing to happen to the franchise (aka organIzation) in quite some time. This team would have been considerably more competitive over these last few years.

AND, TO's drama would have focused all the 'negative' media coverage on TO only rather than his entire stinking team.

There's no doubt that $6 or $7 million is a lot of money, so if he gets it all I can't fault him for securing his financial future to the best of his ability.

There's also no doubting that regardless of who you blame, the T.O. saga was a huge factor in their downward slide.

From PFT.COM-

CJ says he's reporting to the Bengals (citing the money he'd lose) but also has this quote that should fuel the TATERS on the EMB for another month:

“If I can get out of Cincinnati, the sky’s the limit,” Johnson writes. “What could I do in a place like Philadelphia or Dallas? It would be ridiculous. It’s gonna be like a whole new me, like Ocho Cinco 2.0. Yeah, I like that. Ocho Cinco 2.0.”

I don't know if you saw the article I posted on the previous page (I don't think it included those quotes), but that dude is flat-out nuts. Nuts.

Yeah.

I should be calculating the million and counting he's lost on his house outside of Philly, too.

The market wasn't on a downward spiral when he sold. He got out at the right time.

Too fucking funny...he paid $3.9 million for it and listed it at $4.4 million back in November 2005. It's currently still on the market for $2.9 million.

So he's lost more than a million already on that place with no end in sight.

I found the address and took a shot...turns out they've put it on Zillow, which is fantastic (link below).

Here's an excerpt from the seller description:

"his is a magnificent very large piece of art you can call your home. When you walk through the large mahogany doors seasoned by American sports history, you are greeted with breathtaking views of the navigable Rancocas Creek."
Yo, click it

That yard would have Smokey the Bear in tears.

May as well just drop a match there and watch it go up like the MOVE House (that was funny all the way round).

Boy, you look at the property value cahrt and you can tell exactly when he bought it.

Maybe that's why he fired his agent and went with Rosenwhore.

Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia spoke out about his contract in his strongest terms yet today, suggesting that he could retire if he and the team can’t negotiate a deal that he thinks is fair.

“If it doesn’t work itself out, if a contract is not presented as far as a renewal to finish my career, then I will seriously think about what my alternate options may be,” Garcia said today on Sirius Satellite Radio, as reported on NFL Network by Adam Schefter. “And it may come to not playing football anymore.

Garcia, who has one year left on his contract at a base salary of $2 million, said he has been “taken advantage of” by the team.

“I feel like when you mistreat people there comes a time when it doesn’t matter how much you are paid, it’s going to lead to some drastic decisions,” Garcia said.

Although Garcia is the clear No. 1 on the Buccaneers’ crowded quarterback depth chart, he suggested today that he might not be on the depth chart at all by the time the season starts.

“It would be really difficult to go through this season and not have something done before the season,” Garcia said. “I would like to see the appreciation put out there.”
