So what can we conclude from this?
A) Both the Eagles and the Bucs tried to take advantage of him. (Why does this remind me of Mr. Garrison, pre-Mrs. Garrison days?)
B) Garcia thinks he has more value than he really does?
C) Something else?
I'm in the B camp. I liked Garcia when he was in Philly, but this "Boo-hoo, I'm so not appreciated" act is getting old. How long has he been doing this?

Garcia just doesn't have a realistic opinion of his situation. He went with the highest bidder (in the entire NFL) for his services. Now, a year later, he wants to renegotiate.
Tell him this...if he gives all his money back to the Lions and Browns, the Bucs can give him more money. After all, he was being "over-appreciated" in that 2-3 year window.

How much leverage does he think he has? He's old. He led the team to a 9-7 record. Lackluster, but when you see that they scored far fewer points than any other division winner and the defense carried the team, his role is even more reduced.
They have a stable of QBs. Time to find out what's on the bench. Proble is, Gruden's been terrible at developing QBs.

They also played in a weak division.
Garcia's got no leverage. He may think he's worth more than he is, but he's little different than Kurt Warner at this stage of his career.
Either give him what he wants or tell him what to do with it, but shut him up either way.

From USA Today:
Jun. 6, 2008 - 12:16 p.m. ET
Eagles acquired FB Luke Lawton from the Colts in exchange for a conditional 2009 draft pick.
The Colts might get a seventh-round pick if Lawton makes the 53-man roster, which at this point looks unlikely. Lawton, a special teamer with some short-yardage capability, is in a battle with Dan Klecko and Jason Davis.
Really looking to upgrade the FB position?

This is the type of player that they will accumulate with zest in exchange for trading out of the first round every year.

To make room for Lawton, the Eagles waived injured wide receiver Bill Sampy.
OH...NO... NOT SAMPY!
Sampy you are gone but you will never be FORGOTTEN

I actually am interested in this aquisition.
To me, it (at least from afar) maybe a) says they feel a need for a true FB to compete for the position and b) The Converted DT experiment (Klecko) and LB (Davis) maybe is leaving Marty etc. limited with some things they wish to do.
The FB CAN be a valuable position this yr- especially if they're goin to use the traditional rbs in more split out formations (one or both) as has been reported from mini-camp.
This guy runs a 4.5 and is about 235. Thats a good size/speed combo for a FB (one who has supposedly excellent hands).
Gives me somethin else to look fwd to watching play out come camp.

This is more sleight of hand from the master baiter Reid.

"The FB CAN be a valuable position"
I hope you're right. But I still put the over/under for FB carries at 9½ for the season.

If they settle on one they like, id MAYBE take the over on that, but where i mean 'important' would be in the short passes to the flat, etc.
a "Hands" FB would be valuable in Reids WCO.
I say "Reids" cos we all know he runs a bastardized version- but even in his, a FB with hands would have value (ID THINK).

If it's strictly carries, I'll probably take the under. If it's touches I'd take the over. They threw at Cecil Martin, forfuckssake, so they'll throw at a guy who's a legitimate target even more.
This running game was beastly with Ritchie in there. I think I'd love to see a strong fullback (and a commitment to the running game) almost as much as I'd like to see a strong WR. If Seth's analysis of this guy is correct, I think he's a good aquisition for a late 2nd day pick.
Fullbacks don't call press conferences in their driveways and come out doing situps, though.

As far as this Lawton character goes, I guess we'll get to see over the next couple months. I think Davis has a lot of potential and will win the job if he's healthy, but they've clearly made this a very competitive job and they are taking it seriously (for once).

I'm taking this as a sign that they want to run a little more. They went out and got Booker, which lets them (hopefully) run the same basic offense that they run with Westbrook.
We'll see. I'm hopeful despite the overwhelming evidence that I'm wrong.

I thought Spuds said that Sampy was gonna make a real push for that starting lineup...
My guess is that after these minicamps, they have come to realize that no one they have is even close to an NFL caliber FB.
I bet this guy can play ST too.
Over under for FB carries this year should be more like 3.5 and I'd still take the under.

I think the Birds should take a look at Cedric Benson. He's been a bust thus far, but he hasn't had enough time to fall too far from the ability that made him a high pick.
Flame me, but I would like to see it happen.

Benson would not be any kind of an option. He WAS a very high draft pick, and the Bears would want compensation for that. You can't give anything for a guy who would be a situation back in Philly.
