Well i guess i answered my own question with just a little reading....

They released him.
Also Jeremy Clark who had some buzz last yr in camp.

And 7 other guys all named Mel.

Or may as well have been.

LB Gary Butler, CB Tanard Davis, WR Terrell Golden, QB Casey Hansen, DE Xzavie Jackson, DT, DE A.J. Schable, and LB Markell Staffieri.

The Eagles announced Friday that they have agreed to terms with rookie sixth-round picks Mike Gibson and Andy Studebaker on four-year deals.

From the official site.
Figured id cite in, as there was no talk of bubbles there coulda been a shadow of a doubt.

Does that drop them down to 3 QBs already? Isn't that out of the norm for this time of year?

Not that the 4th ever has a shot at anything more than the practice squad, but I thought they always hang on to 4 guys until at least midway through the pre-season.

I guess it's a little more perplexing with McNabb's (non?) injury. Maybe they're trying to send a message of having confidence in his health...I'm probably reading way too much into that one.

Yes, it is.
Usually they'll take a 4th to camp early (or they have plenty of times) to kinda help distribute reps, not wear guys out while still gettin work in for the other skill positions.

But i think its perhaps a result of 2 things-
I think you hit one- they've never shied away from the subliminal message of "nothing to see here".

But I think you'll notice they have a lot of DL goin to camp and Im thinking that they may chose to keep 10 when final cuts are made. If so, perhaps they wish to take more of them to Lehigh, so that they get really good competition and get the best 10.

Best guess here.

My theory is simply that they have had 88 intead of 80 players and could more easily afford to have 4 QBs than they can now.

Surprise, surprise.

"McNabb grows weary of health talk."

"I do think it gets blown way out of proportion. With the injury, if you don't say anything, then people think it's bigger than what it is and if you do say something, some people still think you're hiding something.

Ummmm...no.

If you do say something, no one thinks you're hiding something because you just revealed the problem. Seriously, bro. A little logic never hurts.

"It's a no-win situation and I've been part of them for a long time." I've heard people say, 'Donovan is fat,' I'm out of shape and I'm too big. I just don't get caught up in it."

Dude.

You look just shy of enormous right now.

I mean, have you seen a picture of yourself lately?

I'd like to think it's all muscle, but there's no denying the fact that you are significantly wider than in years' past. Perhaps this will make you harder to sack when you refuse to run. I hope so.

P.S. If you're so insecure that you cannot deal with criticism, I'd advise you stop reading message boards and listening to talk radio. I highly doubt that you're hearing people say, "Donovan is fat" while you're in line at Wawa. You have to be seeking out this kind of criticism, so don't complain when you find it.

BOLDIN WILL BE AN EAGLE!!! TATER ALERT! !!! !! !

_______________________________________________

BOLDIN SAY HE’S UNSURE ABOUT TRAINING CAMP
Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2008, 5:14 p.m.
Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin, who previously denied rumors that he wants a trade, now says that he might not report for training camp.

“I honestly can’t say at this point,” Boldin told Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official web site via text message.

The problem is that the Cardinals paid receiver Larry Fitzgerald a four-year, $40 million contract earlier this year. That’s a lot more than what Boldin is earning, and the gap between the two players’ abilities is far narrower than the gap between their paychecks.

Boldin skipped the team’s voluntary workouts, but attended the mandatory minicamp. He showed up for the mandatory offseason practices, thus avoiding daily fines in excess of $8,000 and, possibly, an obligation to repay a big chunk of his signing bonus.

For training camp, the fine increases to more than $15,000 per day, and the signing bonus remains at risk. So look for Boldin to show up. He can talk tough for now, but when it’s time to report for duty or risk losing a lot of money, he’ll be there.

The broader question is whether the Cardinals will keep him. The Ken Whisenhunt offense isn’t premised on a high-powered passing game, so paying a huge amount of money to two wideouts doesn’t make much sense, especially with so many other needs on the roster. There’s still a chance, then, that the Cardinals will ship Boldin to another team. Primary candidates, as we see it, are the Cowboys and the Eagles.

Think he does to motivate himself. Marino used to use comments all the time to push himself, and McNabb is versed enough in communications (he HAS to be) to put himself out there like that. He's got to motivate himself, because PetSmart stopped sending him hate mail for buying all those dog toys.

And even if he wasn't trying to be wider than a bus, when you haven't played a full season in almost 4 years, people have a right to question/criticize/point out that he's about as durable as wet toilet paper.

Just do what you do whenever you throw a bad pass - smile, make a joke about it and move on. Oh wait...

As down on McNabb as many of us seem to be, I'm not so baked as to think that Kolb is anywhere near ready to replace him.

Apparently, many people disagree.

Philly.com asked, "Is Kevin Kolb ready to take over the Eagles’ offense?"

and presently, the votes are tallied at:

Yes. If Donovan McNabb is hurt, Kolb is game. - 869 (39.1%)

No. Let’s hope McNabb gets healthy soon. - 1354 (60.9%)

Wow. The weed in Philly must be significantly better than it was when I last lived in the area 14 years ago. Aside from dislike of McNabb, which is a dumb reason to think Kolb is ready, I can't see any justification for nearly 40% of the voters having such confidence in Kolb. Folks, he hasn't done a damn thing yet. He may eventually be the second coming of Elway, but let the guy complete a pass before you ready the anointing oil.

The phrasing of the question is a bit suspect, though. I mean, the question they really asked was "If McNabb is hurt, is Kolb ready", which taps into the homer in the people answering the question.

So, in reality, it's more like 40% of people thinking the Eagles will be good no matter what happens and 60% think they are screwed if McNabb is hurt.

I'm sure some of that 40% are also in the camp that wishes the Eagles would just move on, but a lot of them are probably just saying they think the Eagles can win without McNabb if they have to right now.

Well, do you have any reason to believe Kolb is ready to take over the offense if McNabb gets hurt?

I don't.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't totally kick ass and blow everyone away, but we haven't seen him do a damn thing in a regular season game, aside from hand-off and take a sack.

I guess 39% of the fanbase are homers/eternal optimists.

They'll point out all the yards he got in the preseason last year.

I still have images of him not doing very well against the Loins in mop-up duty.

Which one is more likely?

Javon Walker was found unconscious in Las Vegas.

Apparently he was robbed. What made people think he had money, you ask?

Per PFT: Per media reports, Walker was seen on Saturday night spraying the crowd at Tryst night club with some of the 15 bottles of Dom Perignon champagne he had ordered.

He seemingly took "makin' it rain" literally.

"What is it about wideouts that makes them such dickheads?

WR's are from the same mold as the NBA player. Over paid deva's who get hit the least, and complain the most. I think it's that lack of real contact, that keeps them from being more grounded. Typically the players who have the most contact, Lineman, LB's and Fullbacks are the most reserved. Wr's lack that need of having to really play EVERY play ashard as you can. Not all, mind you, but most IMO.

Look at sports in general, the sports with the most contact, or positions with the most contact , tend to be the more humble guys. Hockey is a great example. Every player has to be ready to face the consequence of there actions, except the goalies. That's why they are the bitches of Hockey.

Baseball, most time the catchers are the humble tough guys.

Basketball and Soccer, look under flopping pussies.

Golf, well, Tiger's mentally tough.

Linemen and LBs are the most reserved?

Every time a player makes a tackle or a sack (wow!) he will have his special little preening dance while the other players gather round and suck his cock.

Fullbacks don't touch the ball or get in the stat-sheet enough to be NON-humble. Same with OL.

So basically, the more often you get in the statsheet, the more of a dick you will be. Nothing to do with contact at all.

WR's are from the same mold as the NBA player. Over paid deva's who get hit the least, and complain the most.

Don't agree with this totally.

Do you know why NBA players whine a lot? Because they can get away with it. There is a sense of whining and entitlement within the NBA, brought on by the refs mind you, that allows this stuff to happen. Because the NBA rulebook is so vague about what constitutes a foul, and because refs can be so inconsistent at times, if a player whines about a call, chances are he'll get that call back later on in the game. It doesn't have everything to do with the "mold" of the player, but it has a lot to do with the environment that the player plays in.

Would they still whine if rules were presented in black and white? Perhaps. But the number of players opening pining for calls wouldn't be as many if the refs didn't give into them at one point or another.

And I don't agree that the more you're hit, the more humble you are (or its inverse). There are lots of players in the NFL (both past and present) that you would not depict as being "humble", even if their bodies are human destruction derby participants. Fullbacks are practically phased out with some teams; it's not the same as it was 10 years ago.

If you were to say "the players that are most humble are the ones who actually love the sport they play, don't treat it as a business, and appreciate the fact that they represent a small % of overall athletes that attempt and actually succeed in making the big time" (and I look at some hockey players and not the lot of them), then I'd agree with you.

There are just too many instances on both sides of the coin to label it as being true of one particular version.

Interesting theory, but some of these diva WRs are also guys who go over the middle and get drilled. T.O. may be a bitch, but I don't think he shies away from contact. Physiciality is a big part of his game.

Sak - you're way off my man.

WAY OFF.
I think his theory holds more than a little water.

LBs - more often than not, are NOT whiney or Diva-like.

Ray Lewis, one of the best, has his own lil' dance but he is not a whiner or primadona.
Same for Urlacher, Trotter had the axeman chop thing- but really- whiney?

No.
