Who here thinks Lito is really on this teams roster for game 1?
You would think that a team with a normal GM, would trade Lito, and try to fill a need, but this is Andy Reid we are talking about.

So, what happened?
1. Do the Eagles just look at Lito, and say, your on this team, do what is asked and that's that?

2. They didn't nearly what they thought he was worth? Funny think about that, is when they brought Samual in, Lito's stock dropped. Not that he's a worse player, but the the rest of the NFL know the Eagles are in a tight spot with him.

3.???

I honestly think that because of his injury history and contract issues (partly due to his overevaluation of his worth-- a running theme in today's NFL), there is no team that is interested enough to give the Eagles anything credible in return. The Birds' best shot at trading him will come if a team loses an All-Pro for the year in preseason or early on in the regular season.

Otherwise, Lito has just about no leverage. He can either play and make money or not play and make no money, while his prime years and value go down the toilet. The Birds know that if they trade him, they most likely won't get anything but draft picks in return, so if he holds-out an doesn't play it won't affect the team any differently this season than if he would be traded for picks. The smartest thing he could do this year is play, stay healthy, have a kickass season, and then hope his value has increased enough that he can be traded to another team crazy enough to rip up his contract.

If he plays, I think everyone would agree that the defense would be much better with three very good corners than two very good corners. I really don't think he's capable of creating a T.O.-like mutiny. He doesn't strike me as the closet-case-with-chemical-imbalance type.

My prediction: He plays well for the Eagles, but he also gets hurt and misses at least 4 games, and the team can't find anyone to take him in trade next year, either.

If Lito tries to show his value as a shut down corner, I agree with Talon that he will probably miss 4 games. But on the flip side, I can see him trying to shake the "oft injured" label, play in all 16 games, but not really go all out and look like Deion Sanders trying to tackle. That concerns me more than anything else with him.

You would hope that his professional pride would take over and he would go out and play ball, unlike LJ Smith. But I guess that is my 1950's ideals taking over. But then again, Brian Dawkins wouldn't be caught dead playing half speed, so I hate to see when other birds are doing it.

But the likelihood is that Lito will be on this team and he won't give it his all. Which is a mistake. You're only in this game once and he should be playing that way.

i'm not sure why you would assume that. that doesn't benefit him at all, nor does it fit his MO.

Favre, seriously?

If I were Aaron Rodgers I would have him knee-capped.

I was shocked when I heard that. Then again, I was even more shocked at how good he was last year. Ya never know. I remember when Montana finished out his career in KC. Most of his appearances were nothing special but even then, he had one or two late game miracles up his sleeve.

Anyone know how many concussions Farve has?

To the guy who said that Matt Jones would be key to the offense, he got picked up while trying to cut cocaine using a credit card.

Jags were going to cut him anyway, because he was regularly being beaten out by Troy Williamson.

Of course, he COULD be an improvement over Duckfoot...

Mike and the Mad Dog are saying Favre has asked for his release.

Looks like they'll have to change his team jersey on the Madden 09 cover. What a guy.

'at least one Packers player has said that Favre hasn't completely gotten the game out of his system.' - cause he's too dumb to locate the eject button on his xbox360?

Farve. Go away. I turned into the local sports radio and the guy was making a case for Farve to come to Tampa Bay. christ, is it Old Timers Day or just the QBs on the Bucs roster (Greasy, Garcia)

Like he cares what you think.

This is BRETT FAVRE we're talking about.

In fact, if BRETT FAVRE wants to come back and play in "BRETT FAVRE'S National Football League", it's certainly within BRETT FAVRE'S prerogative to do so.

When Montana was traded to KC, he whooped up on Young that year when KC played SF. Everyone thought it was a mistake. However, Young went on to help his team win the Superbowl, where Montana didn't have that success in KC.

Favre's looking out for Favre. It's time Green Bay looked after Green Bay. I hope they tell him that he can come back, but he won't be the starter. His contract is for how long? Green Bay doesn't need to trade him, and they don't need to release him.

Lyte- they did.

Heard today on ESPN that they said they'd welcome him back as the back up QB, but aren't willing to release him and they've rec'd no trade offers for Favre.

Yikes.

Good to hear Seth. I don't know which will be worse for him, sitting on the bench or sitting at home. GB's got a lot invested in him being a Packer, and they have a business decision right now what to do.

Also, they don't know how Rogers will handle a 16+ game season, teams would kill to have Favre backing up their future.

No chance in hell Favre will do it. They'll have to play him, trade him, or release him.

The fans are organizing weekly vigils at The Tundra and started up http://bringbackbrettfavre.com/. This is an absolute nightmare for the Pack.

I can see both sides of it. I mean, it has to be tough to give it up and sometimes the great the player, the more they tend to soil that legacy with the end of their career.

The Packers just wanted an answer one way or the other so they could plan as a franchise. He screwed them on that.

By the same token, what would you do if you were in his shoes? If you made a decision and came to regreat it a couple months later, are you supposed to deprive yourself of the opportunity and $10 million so you don't put your employer in a bad spot?

I don't think many people would believe Aaron Rodgers will be better than Brett Favre this year (or any year), so I'm sure 99% of his teamates want Brett back. The bottom line is the Packers have to burn Aaron Rodgers to appease Favre and do what's best for their team in the short term OR look bad, irritate fans, and field an inferior team just so they can keep a promise to Aaron Rodgers.

I feel for Rodgers, but it's a business and the name of the game is winning. Does anyone think the Packers have a better chance of winning with Rodgers?

Can't tell for certain, but do they have a certain chance of going all the way with Favre?

Favre's ego aside, the Pack has to move on to see what they have in their investment (and he didn't look too bad playing against the Cowboys last year). As long as Favre is in the picture, they'll never be able to move on, either with Rodgers or with whomever else. Sometimes you have to pull the trigger to see what you have - you can't continue to put the future off.

If Rodgers is a bust, then they would at least have known after a year, and after a year, Favre will be even more deteriorated and more out of the picture, so you'll have to get someone else in there anyway.

If I was on that team, I would want the guy coming off a 28 TD, 4,000 yard, 66% completion, 12 win season rather than the completely unknown kid with zero career starts who was injured during his only extensive game action.

I personally think Favre is still better than 75% of the starting QBs out there. I don't think he will win another Super Bowl because he can't quite stay away from the key INTs in big games. However, Aaron Rodgers could be a 7 win season (or worse) and I'd rather take my chances with Favre. If things go south or he doesn;t perform, replace him with Rodgers.

If Rodgers fails and favre is gone, a whole season is lost.

If things go south or he doesn;t perform, replace him with Rodgers.

But they've been doing that for at least the past 2 years. And you can't keep going to Rodgers (who you've already pegged as the future) and keep telling him "one more year". Because Favre will keep saying "one more year", since he's done it for two years already.

At some point you either gotta take your chances with the unknown, or recognize that the known is not going to get you where you want to go. If you think Favre can replicate those #s for one more year, then by all means bring him in and milk the cow till its udders get mastitis.
