Banner really wants to tighten the screws on McDougle, making him restructure just so he can come to camp and then get cut.

From the DN:

A source close to the situation has said the Eagles also are talking to Rosenhaus about restructuring the contract of one of his other clients, star-crossed 2003 first-round draft pick Jerome McDougle. Apparently, the team wants McDougle - a longshot to make the team this year - to take a pay cut, just to continue his bid to make the roster. McDougle is scheduled to make $950,000 in the final year of his rookie pact.

Shockey is OUTTA the NFC East.

Goes to N.O. for a 2nd and a 5th.

Nice.

Nice trade for both teams. The offense in NO gets a very good TE player (if he can stay on the field), and the Giants get more picks, plus they unload a player that wasn't seeing time on the field anyway for a good price.

Saints should be able to win the NFC South handily.

Glad to see him go. Very glad.

Good deal for both sides in the long haul, but there's no way anyone can make an argument that the Giants of 2008 are stronger than the Giants of 2007 minus Shockey and Strahan.

How do you turn Terrell Owens into a sympathetic figure?

You get hit by a car outside of the ESPYs, he stays by your side, offering moral support while you bleed, and then you act like a jackass by writing a column about it with some snarky references to his past foibles.

Outside shot the Gmen get a 1st for Jeremy Shockey - ugh.

Several astute readers have pointed out that the Saints’ attempt to trade a second-round pick in 2009 to the Giants for tight end Jeremy Shockey could be hampered by the trade through which the Saints acquired linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the Jets.

Under the trade between the Jets and the Saints, New Orleans will be required to cough up a second-round pick if Vilma participates in 85 percent of the defensive snaps this season, and if the Saints sign Vilma to a contract extension.

So how could the Saints send a potential second-rounder to the Jets and an actual second-rounder to the Giants.

Per Tom Rock of Newsday, the Giants would get the Saints’ first-round pick if the Jets get the second-rounder. If the Giants get the first-round pick, the Saints’ fifth-rounder falls out of the Shockey deal.

I didn't get that...I thought he was saying T.O. did a good thing, he was a nice guy, and didn't even try to milk it for PR.

Still, I DO agree that T.O. is a closeted homosexual.

And the Saints are retarded. Hopefully Vilma doesn't play 85% or they wait until after the season to sign an extension.

This is from PFT, and it looks like they are mixing a couple of different reports (this isn't accurate). Yes, he wants $30 million (I believe that's his negotiating point), but I've already seen several reports saying he wants $30 million in guarantees AND an extension. I'd imagine the total value of the deal he wants is MORE than $30 million and he's expecting to make less than $10M per year.

WESTBROOK WANTS $10 MILLION PER YEAR

Posted by Mike Florio on July 22, 2008, 10:45 p.m. EDT

Question. Which NFL team has a 29-year-old running back who thinks he’s worth $10 million per year? (Sorry. Watching The Office reruns tonight.)

Answer. The Eagles.

Per a league source, Brian Westbrook is looking for a new deal that pays him $30 million over the first three years.

We’re told that Westbrook picked his new agent, Todd France, based on the fact that France was the only one who would guarantee that he could get Westbrook a certain level of compensation.

Per a league source, multiple other agents withdrew from the running once it became clear that Westbrook was treating the process like a hand of high-stakes Texas Hold ‘Em.

It’s unknown whether France committed to getting $30 million over three. All we know is that France’s bid was the highest.

He doesn't have as much leverage as he thinks he does. A 30 year old whiny-bitch back is worth less than a 29 year old whiny-bitch back.

This is pretty funny stuff from Gcobb...

Pay Westbrook His Money
Written by Garry Cobb
Tuesday, 22 July 2008
The Eagles should pay Brian Westbrook close to what he wants.
They have little chance of having a big year without him at his best.

I think former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson said it right when he talked about treating his superstars differently than the rest of the guys on the team. Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin are the reasons he's working part time for Fox Sports and making $5 to $10 million dollars a year.

Personally, I think football teams are like doing a $100 million dollar movie production. If Will Smith or Tom Hanks shows up late for a shooting you wait. If one of the extras shows up late he's fired.

If they had invested $5 or $10 million dollars in Terrell Owens a few years back, we would be a Super Bowl favorite and the Cowboys would be used to the basement.

There are certain guys worth paying. Westbrook is one of them.

Give him $25 million more in guaranteed monies and get this situation right.

G.Cobb on July 22nd - I slept on this overnight and feel Westbrook should be willing to accept $10 to $15 million additional dollars. You can't give a guy who only has three to four few years left $30 million dollars. Westbrook deserves more money but he has to be reasonable.

While the Philadelphia Eagles are taking it easy with Donovan McNabb in training camp as he works his way back from a shoulder injury, that hasn't stopped them from going after some potential insurance. The Packers made a call to the Eagles Wednesday about potentially trading for retired quarterback Brett Favre, ESPN reports.

The Eagles' interest in Favre would be surprising because their quarterback situation is better than most teams in the league, but they do fit the West Coast passing tree where Favre could be successful in Andy Reid's offense. Reid was once Favre's quarterbacks coach in Green Bay under Mike Holmgren.

In a report Tuesday in the Wisconsin State Journal detailing which NFC teams the staff of Packers general manager Ted Thompson tabbed as potential trade partners for Favre, the Eagles were not among the four, which included Tampa Bay, Carolina, Atlanta and Washington.
