I definitely see where you are going. I remember when he "retired" in March and thinking why all the bullshit tears, I know you're coming back next year. You've been talking about this for nearly 3-4 years. He had played at a fairly high level for most of the year.
I also acknoweldge that he was a world class jerkoff for telling the GB FO that the needn't come to the backwaters of Miss, because he'd decided.
I just don't see it as a big deal. He's a flip flopper and would be well suited to politics. If I were GB FO person, I'd be thrilled that I have yet another year to surround Aaron Rodgers with more weapons during the transition. IF ANYTHING, the whole "we are moving on sentiment" is great. Why? Favre just gift wrapped 2 draft picks for them. Why get pissed about that? GB could have raped Minn for some picks. Why not steal division rival picks for an aging QB who has to gel with a whole new group of WRs? Why not rape Minn for a Dlineman or LB?
Despite his womanish backtracking, he did avoid really making this a higher drama situation than he could have and played a much more disruptive person.
I know his "type". I don't think he means poorly and that counts for something. But it also means I can't rely on him.
I reiterate my hopes that he plays for the Jets. They aren't as bad as they seemed last season and it'd make the NE-Jets game more interesting to watch.

F4F, after a painful day of work, my throw away prayer to the Big Guy was that he'd be a Jet. Just saw your post, F4F AFTER I ranted a bit. NCSF prays for the unattainable but worthy. I prayed for the meaningless and trivial.
Oh well. At least it got answered.

Wait til Favre has a few bad games, and the NY media starts in on him.

Pretty good trade for the Pack - based on performance, they get a 4th which could go all the way to a 1st if Favre leads them to the SB.
Oh, and if the Jets trade Favre to Minny, they owe the Pack THREE 1st round picks. Yo, click it

Favre to the Jets is a strange move, IMO. Great for the Jets and best possible outcome for the Packers (keeping him out of the NFC), but I don't know what Favre sees in the Jets.
They might be competitive with their improving D and Favre upgrading Pennington/Clemons, but they shouldn't be "good". Plus, the media pressure he'll get up there will be intense...this is a guy who played his career in a one horse town, lives on a farm in the filthy south during the off-season, and STILL gets as much or more media attention than any other player in the league. What's in going to be like in The C-ty?
It'll be interesting to see how things go in GB, too. They were at worst a 10-6 team with Favre there, so Aaron Rodgers is going to have a really short leash with the fans. If things don't go really smoothly, he could face a Tim Couch-style home town hatefest. If he plays well, though, those fans will embrace him. Definitely interesting stuff to watch on both ends.
Also, I watched the first episode of Hard Knocks last night and the Cowboys are fucking obnoxious. They also have a certified all-star team on their hands.
The only chinks are some potentially weak links in the offensive line, borderline/average #2 WR, and some coverage issues at the safety spots.
Those flaws are actually big enough that it could really hurt them this year, but when you just see the players trotting onto the field from Romo to T.O. to Barber, Pacman, Newman, Ware, Witten, etc. you know they aren't just a hype team the Cowboys have sometimes trotted out in the past. They are going to be more talented than just about every team they face, so it's going to come down to out-executing them on every snap.

Talon, that "dream scenario" post was the best thing I've read on here in a long time - kudos.
Johnny Unitas as a Charger
OJ Simpson as a 49er
Reggie White as a Panther
Brett Favre as a Jet.
Why can't these guys see when it's over?

Not much for Sportscenter, but I'm looking forward to the Favre haters and the NY haters joining forces over the next few weeks.
I don't think this makes the Jets favorites for anything, it just makes a previously dull team a whole lot more interesting. Plus as Talon said yesterday it'll be a nice break from All-Yankees, All-the-Time NY sports coverage.

Uh-oh...Aaron Rodgers taking a quote out of McNabb's book: “All I can do is control the attitude I bring into every day, stay positive and think about leading this football team to the best of my ability.”.
This article makes me more amenable to coming around to Sections way of thinking. linc

This really is a dream scenario for the Favre/media haters. The only better situation would have been if he was traded to the Red Sox.

On the plus side, Favre doesn't have to play in Philly except in pre-season. Hey, maybe he'll finally notch a career victory here then!

anyone think there is any interest at all in
aj feeley around the league? as a backup, obviously not as a starter.
unlike most here, i AM a big fan of acquiring more of the precious. and while i know AJ is not garnering any # 2 picks that turn into reggie brown again, he may bring a # 6, that is used on draft day to move up. trent cole and omar gaither were both 5th rdrs, i'd take a chance on a rookie like that right now instead of keeping aj as a # 3.
hell, any journeyman or rookie can be a # 3 QB. if it gets past mcnabb and kolb, whatever season we had goin is up in flames anyway.

"Also, I watched the first episode of Hard Knocks last night and the Cowboys are fucking obnoxious. They also have a certified all-star team on their hands."
Maybe so, but all of this Super Bowl talk is premature especially for a team that A)hasn't won a play-off in 12 years B) has a QB who not only has never won a play-off game but wilts in the latter part of the season, C)Marion Barber is a great back but he's never been THE guy in college or the pros - he's always been in a tandem situation and Felix Jones has to prove himself and most importantly D)Wade Phillips is still their head coach.
Wade Phillips blowing a load over Pacman's ability to catch and hold 6 footballs - he ran around telling everyone like a school girl - was hysterical...uh, Wade, don't you think you might have more pressing needs on your hands like figuring out who your #2 WR is gonna be or who's gonna replace your 35-year old MLB WHEN he gets hurt or the inevitable Pacman was seen in a strip club controversy goes down? And the ticking time bomb that is TO hasn't even gone off yet.
The Cowboys are not a team that's been knocking on the door for a couple of years and were one or two pieces away. They've been standing on the sidewalk throwing pebbles at a 2nd story window. To assume they're gonna get in the house now, in August, is presumptious on everyone's part.
If Lombardi trophies were handed out based on what's on paper, the Eagles probably would have 4 SB's right now dating back to the late 80's.

Rice as a Bronco was more pathetic than weird.
I don't think the Eagles are interested in moving Feeley. I think they'd like to have him as Koy Detmer 2.0. Older QB, knows the system, costs little. Groom a #3 next year to replace him in 2010.

Don't remember Rice as a Bronco...I thought he went to the Seahawks or something...I dunno, 'm too lazy to look it up right now.
It was mentioned before, but Reggie as a Panther was beyond weird. At that point, it was kinda pathetic.
As for Favre in NYC, it makes more sense than the supposed "open competition" for the starting role in GB that was floating around a few days ago. From the organization's standpoint, they did what they needed to do. Rogers has done his best Steve Young impersonation, and it's simply time to let him have at it. I'm sure that the public pressure in GB was every bit (if not more) heavy to have him play as it was for Montana in SF, but at some point, the bell tolls for everyone. As for his future in NY, he hasn't landed at the best possible location for what he'd like to do in his final act. If there were a possibility for him to play late in the postseason, his best shot would have been in Tampa. For the Jets, I think that the best he'll likely do is perhaps landing a wildcard berth, but I think that's a serious question as well. I think that he did as well as he did for as long as he did because of where he was and the comfort level he had in his surroundings. With that gone, he's in a position that he hasn't been in for 15 years, one in which he has to prove himself. At this stage in his career, I just don't think he'll be able to do that. In the end, he'll join the rest of the legendary players that went before him who left their teams, either by choice or by force, and gain the dubious distinction of the "he finished his career where??" comment in years to come.

Rice signed but wasn't going to crack even the top 3 WRs on the roster, so he retired.
