In other news...

Lito Shepphard said:

"I think my role is still undetermined right now,'' Sheppard said. "I feel fine, I feel great, I feel healthy, I feel ready to play this season, but as to my role, that has yet to be determined . . . Me not starting, that's the biggest propaganda.''

Propaganda? Does he mean by Reid? Is he really the starter and JJ just lied? Not that it matters to me, nor should it to him.

Taco Bill's Crew:

A strange thing happened to running back Rudi Johnson when he visited with the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Someone stole his stuff.

Seriously.

Specifically, and as we’re told by a reliable source (i.e., not the person who told Mort that Joey Harrington had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Monday, or the person who told John Clayton that Todd Bouman had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Tuesday), Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office while he met with team officials and, ultimately, worked out a deal with the team.

So when Johnson came back to get his bags, they were nowhere to be found. Johnson and Millen were stumped.

Enter the eye in the sky.

The team checked the videotapes generated by the team’s in-house surveillance system, and they quickly identified the culprit.

So who might it have been? None other than Tatum Bell, who lost his gig with the Lions after Rudi arrived.

Per the source, Bell took the bags to the house of a female acquaintance. When confronted on the matter, Bell offered up some cockamamie story that he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew. The girl, however, said that she hadn’t seen Bell in several months and he showed up out of the blue and asked her to keep the bags for a while.

Johnson has retrieved the bags, and it’s our understanding that charges won’t be pressed.

Tatum apparently didn’t know that he was being monitored.

Fortunately, the displaced running back wasn’t Najeh Davenport.

Reading around PFT and the Inky that trade offers were made for Lito, but the Birds refused. PFT is saying Rosenhaus says he'll be traded within the next few weeks.

I'd like to know what they consider Lito's value, and if that value relates to his "starting" situation.

I HAVE LEARNED...

In Rosenhaus' Youtube.com plea for his client, Lito Sheppard to start in the upcoming game against the St. Louis Rams, he said that if Sheppard isn't starting at his normal left cornerback spot because of the signing of Asante Samuel, then he should be starting at the right corner in place of Sheldon Brown.

Brown happens to be Sheppard's best friend.

Brown said today that Rosenhaus' comments bothered him. When Sheppard was asked about it he said he didn't have a problem with what his agent, Rosenhaus said.

Their lockers are nearly right next to each other.

I got a look at them out on the practice field today and the body language didn't look good. I wouldn't read too much into what they have said because I don't know that either are fully aware of what the other has said.

Soon we're goin to need a LITO thread methinks/fears...

From the Inky:

Brown had several thoughts on the matter, starting with his view of Sheppard's idea that changing agents, from Peter Schaffer to Rosenhaus, would somehow get the Eagles to trade him, which was the ultimate point of last week's video.

"If you know (Rosenhaus') track record, it's more of a disappointment to me that he enticed the guy into signing with him," Brown said. "Thinking that he could get the deal done. Agents don't get the deals done. The player gets the deal done. That's what's disappointing.

"I wouldn't say it bothered me, because I'm bigger than that, I'm a professional ... Drew hasn't been with Sheldon Brown for 7 years; I think he's been with Lito for 2 months. He hasn't followed by career. He hasn't broke down any film; he probably couldn't tell you what number (Brown wears). It's really irrelevant ... (from watching the video) you would think the guy has been scouting tape and know(ing) the statistics and following us our whole career.

"A lot of times, people should just worry about their (own) jobs."

Brown said he had not spoken to Sheppard, who dresses in the next stall, about what Rosenhaus said. It's a problem for Rosenhaus and Sheppard if Sheppard doesn't start this season, because whenever a trade occurs, Sheppard wants a state-of-the-art contract for an elite corner, which he is unlikely to get as the third guy.

...

Sheppard adamantly defended his agent.

"That's between him and Drew," Sheppard said at first. "I didn't say it. (Bleep). What did (Rosenhaus say)?"

Given a quick synopsis, Sheppard said: "Ask Drew about that."

When it was pointed out that Rosenhaus represents Sheppard, and thus said these things in Sheppard's name, Sheppard said: "He wasn't talking to ya'll, he wasn't talking to Sheldon, he was talking to the organization."

Someone pointed out that a YouTube video is not a private conversation with Joe Banner.

"You're right, he did put it out there, didn't he?" Sheppard agreed.

"I have no control over how he forms his argument about my situation," Sheppard said. "Stats are stats. It is what it is. If it takes him to say stuff like that, then obviously, he feels like it's a point to be made. As far as me, I'm never going to talk bad about somebody else, especially on my team, to try to uplift myself. I'm not that kind of guy.

"So ya'll tell me why I'm not starting. I mean, that's the question. (Signing Samuel) has nothing to do with me."

(Insert photo of puzzled reporters scratching their heads. Huh? Of course it had something to do with you, Lito.)

"I let him do his job and I do mine. I ain't got no problem with nothing he does. If that's what ya'll are asking, I don't have a problem with it."

Ask if he worried this could become a distraction similar to the Terrell Owens follies of 2005 (also co-starring Rosenhaus), Sheppard said: "If it does, it does. If it don't, it don't. I'm just playing football and doing my best and letting everything else take care of itself."

Asked if he felt the T.O. drama affected the team, Sheppard said: "Of course ... but it started with you guys ... the distractions start with you."

(More head-scratching. Wasn't it Sheppard who two days earlier suggested we should all ask coaches why he wasn't starting?)

"Right, but that's not down-talking anybody on this team," Sheppard said.

"I back Drew, whatever he does and however he does it. Otherwise I wouldn't have hired him."

Even if it upsets a close friend?

"Hey, well, I'm upset. (Bleep).

Bleep, indeed.

There must be another video out there, because the one I saw from the 29th didn't say anything bad about Brown.

And it's going to get worse once confirmation of the Eagles' latest trade refusal comes through. Especially since he probably thinks that keeping him out of the starting lineup lowers his value for a new contract.

Does anyone trade higher than a 3rd for him at this point?

Such drama...

Lito is dangerously close to becoming dead in my eyes. I'm so tired of these vaginas with their money tantrums and Rosenwhore can't die a painful enough death in my opinion.

Lito just has to hurry up and get his annual injury already so he can quickly STFU.

The nice thing about all this is Sheldon will be motivate to play his best football and so will Lito.

The only bad that can come of it is if a rift forms between them.

That's a great point... this will motivate them and hopefully Samuel's play will be as it was for the Patriots and the Birds will have a dominating secondary for this season.

Besides the locker room leaders will prevent this from getting out of hand... oh, that's right Lito and Sheldon are locker room leaders.

NTF! Thankfully, I think the only person who would back Lito in any kind of locker room division is Sheldon...who is currently pissed at him.

It's funny, but there might not be a starter on the team with less locker room favor than Lito (well...probably Hunt).

It's just the way it is, but Dawk is still the leader of the secondary, Samuel is the best corner, and Sheldon has always been the locker room voie of the CBs. Lito hasn't ever been a team leader or even position leader. He always seemed like a bit of a quiet/shy guy until this recent contract issue.

Where do you think this locker room drama all starts? Do you think that it's the players' egos, the front office's brutal look at the bottom line, or the agents?

That's a good question, but I have no idea what the answer is. It's probably different in each case, but it seems like it's been mostly the player starting the crap in the case of the Eagles.

In Westbrook's case, it was the player. He's had at least 3 agents and fired agents at least twice because he was unhappy with what they were telling him.

In the case of Lito, it was the player firing his agent and hiring a guy who would help cause him cause problems.

In the case of T.O., it was also the player.

I mostly blame the agents... they are the ones primarily driving up the salaries. If their player gets paid, they get paid. They pit one contract/position against another.

In the case of the Eagles, yeah their Front Office is tight and that can be perceived as a bad thing... especially from a fans perspective, but so is overpaying for a player ala Snyder or Davis. Both approaches impact how players are paid.

Then there are definitely players who feel they are worth more than they're being paid. some are right... most are wrong. But most still need an agent to get what they want.

I think a lot of it has to with the inherent violence of the sport and the relatively short shelf-life of the average player. Since a career-ending injury could happen on any play, and there are no guaranteed contracts, a player without many other life skills could potentially see a fortune disappear at a moment's notice. Have to make as much as they can in a short time. I can sympathize with the mentality, though acting like a baby to get your way is very off-putting.
