There is NO WAY IN HELL that Housh is better than Roy Williams. Williams is bigger, faster, has great hands. I think you have "F-d Syndrome" are are basing everything strictly on numbers, specifically last year's. This feels like deja vu (the F-d/Barnett saga regarding T.O.) all over again.

Didn't Williams light up the Eagles secondary last year...

He has to be better than Baskett, Brown, or Lewis.

From what little I saw of him last year he has good speed and seperation ability.

All I moot point though since when do the Gold Standard Eagles ever make any trades during the regular season.

Did you watch the video, section? That was the Eagles secondary lit up like a "powder blue and gold flame".

He was coasting and Mikell wasn't gaining ground.

Here's the scouting report on Williams (from 2004)

COPYRIGHT 2004 Sporting News Publishing Co.

STRENGTHS: Is a complete receiver with excellent size (6-2, 212), speed, hands and run-after-the-catch skills. Can make the spectacular catch. Has excellent leaping ability, fights for the ball in the air and wins most jump balls. Catches the balls over the shoulder and outside of his frame and has the body control to get balls thrown behind him. Is deceptively fast and gets over the top of defensive backs when working against them in man coverage. Can stretch defenses vertically and has great athletic ability. Is developing into a quality route runner and should be productive in the red zone. Reaches top speed quickly and has a second gear in the open field. Has great vision and the ability to make defenders miss, plus the speed to outrun defenders when he hits a seam. As a blocker, shows good strength, gets into solid position and sustains his blocks.

WEAKNESSES: Needs to improve his short and intermediate mutes. Rounds off his cuts at times and doesn't always find the soft spots in zone coverage. Will try to do too much at times and will run before catching the ball. Drops some passes he should catch.

BOTTOM LINE: Williams, who sprained an ankle Sunday in the Lions' win over Atlanta, is making a big impact as a rookie. He still needs polish, but he is a hard worker who is dedicated to improving his skills. He gives the Lions an explosive No. 1 option, which is especially important with Charles Rogers out for the season with another broken collarbone.--War Room scouts

I was at that game last year (SAW IT LIVE) and I remember him tourching the Eagles for around 200 yards.

I also remember the Eagles scoring at will so it was a free for all.

I'd like to see his 40 time against the current slugs of WRs the Eagles have now on the roster.

Not to mention the fact that his current QB Kitna is a complete loser.

It would be a fkn miracle if the Eagles traded for him.

As we were told before by the GOLD STANDARD going into this season, the WR corp is fine.

What a joke.

Section-

While "40 times" are important, it's more about game speed, physical presence, the ability to get open, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, making a play on the ball and finishing. Roy Williams is a top exponent in these areas. Just look at the one handed catches, the tippy-toe catches in the end zone, the catches in traffic. Don't get me wrong, I think Housh is a fine receiver. But he's not on the same level, period. If Roy Williams played with Carson Palmer, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Which is why I want to see what would happen if he or Boldin came here.

Strike that- I know what would happen. Even if people have short memories and shorter understanding of what a "field stretching WR" can do for your team as a whole.

Fred

I just threw th 40 time equation in cause I'm already 99.9% sure he is faster than any of the WRs the Eagles have at this point except for Jackson. Brown looked slow than paint drying this past Sunday.

The last thing I saw on the wire about Williams was that the 49ers were interested in him.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the Eagles to get him (Williams) or to actually make a trade during the regualar season.

That would be an admission of guilt and failure on their part and as we both know the Eagles NEVER make any mistakes in the draft or evaluating players.

The shame of it is that all the other pieces are in place. The lines are solid, franchise QB (swho sometimes needs a little help), versatile RB, opportunistic and aggressive D...

Yo, Fred, it ain't 2004 anymore so I don't put ANY (repeat: any) weight in his scouting report. He's had, what, like three injuries since that was written?

We've got four years of hard data on what RW can do consistently. It's time to drop your biased prior and update with some actual evidence.

Fred...be calm.

I'm not basing everything on numbers. I'm not dissing Roy Williams. If you go back to the off season thread, I said I'd rather have Roy Williams than Fitzgrald.

I'm talking simply about the reality of the situation. He's always hurt, it's the middle of the season, it's the last year of his contract, and the Eagles problems right now aren't WR related.

Those are just facts. Roy is a talented guy, but WR isn't a huge problem for them right now.

They don't have a TE, the line isn't blocking, the coaching is awful, they don't have a FB, and their best player is hurt.

If I had to list the problems on offense, WR would literall be last on my list and I don't think bringing in Roy Williams helps them all that much this year.

The problem with that is with him coming in mid-season and not giving them all that much, they could end up letting him walk at the end of the year, which would be tragic (because I think he could help them a LOT over the coming years).

I think, personally, Tong G gives them a hell of a lot more THIS YEAR than Williams.

Second best pass catcher on his own team. He's definitely an excellent #2, though.

This is a pretty retarded argument mostly b/c the Eagles are being blamed for not ever getting a WR or making a trade in season. In-season trades rarely ever happen, and the Eagles have attempted to get a WR every year either with a draft pick or free agency/trade.

I've been reading some Lion's fans thoughts online...those simple little guys.

They think the Lions have been shopping Roy Williams to the Cowboys for Demarcus Ware and are asking for a pair of 1st round picks from other teams.

I know things are bad in Detroit (in general), but I want to pat them on the head and give them a PB&J sandwich or something, the poor, dumb bastards.

And, FD, I guess there was only modest interest in an otherwise top-tier TE who CAN read defenses. I read an article saying how the Titans were hoping he could help V Young learn to read defenses and that Crumpler was a film room junkie. Of course, you can't fix a fragile psyche.

PISSES ME OFF!!!!! He actually made look Vick look legit on a few occassions. He understands his role in blocking schemes.....just dumb. I remember when he was released, I was hoping the Birds would do something to get him.
