Sorry to back track a bit:

Baskett? (who I swear is the forgotten man on that roster) HE SHOULD RUN A MANDATORY FADE PATTERN IN CORNER OF ENDZONE ON EVERY PLAY THEY RUN INSIDE THE 10 YRD LINE!!!!

My sentiments exactly. What good is having a big receiver (or RB for that matter) if you don't utilize that aspect of their game.

That's actually been discussed at length this off-season.

From listening to Spuds, Reid, Eskin, The Cuz, etc. it seems to be a widely accepted fact that McNabb cannot and hasn't learned how to throw a fade in the end zone. It's completely bizarre because I think he's a hard worker and he could have mastered this over the years, but he just doesn't feel comfortable with the throw and it has been removed from the playbook completely.

The Lions have released both Kevin Jones and Kalimba Edwards.

Big name cuts, but I'm not sure what they bring to the table. Edwards has been mostly a disappointment, but he has a long frame and has had a couple good seasons rushing the passer and he's still only 28.

Kevin Jones just hasn't been able to overcome injuries after breaking into the league, but he;s an interesting guy to take a flier on. He's got decent size, great speed (if injuries haven't robbed him), and catches the ball well.

When Reid was on Asskiss, he said that they just don't throw fades, and even when TO was here, he didn't feel comfortable catching them (citing that he doesn't do it in Dallas).

It's interesting anyway, because Baskett gives the Birds that size they haven't really had, and you'd think they'd be able to take advantage of that.

Cutting Jones was a surprise--I have heard several times this offseason, that the Lions wanted to focus more attention on the run game--Tatum? Meh. No way the birds even look at Kevin Jones--not their type of guy.

G-Cobb live is like crack. BTW, whoever made the comment "Willow-Grove Widow-maker" had me cracking up. Good times.

Left tackle Jonathan Ogden, a potential Hall of Famer who was drafted in the same opening round of the same draft as sure-fire Hall-of-Fame linebacker Ray Lewis, has told the Baltimore Ravens to assume that the lineman’s 12-year career is over.

Ogden has been bothered by a toe injury since 2006. He aggravated it in Week One of the 2007 season, and he is still bothered by it.

“It just hasn’t healed 100 percent, and I don’t know if it will,” Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, by way of the the Baltimore Sun. “I can still play, but . . . I don’t want to play if I can’t play at the level I’m capable of playing at.”

But Ogden hasn’t closed the door on returning. “I have not officially retired,” Ogden said. ”So if I come back, it’s great, they said, but they’re proceeding as if I’m not.”

The timing of the Jones cut is interesting. All the "big money" is gone and people are looking at the draft. They must've felt they couldn't move him by trade on draft day. His salary's over $2 million for 2008. Maybe they figured no one would pay that much just to renegotiate the next year. Then again, he never really impressed beyond his rookie year.

There's no "cap hit" difference, since he's in the last year of his contract.

Used in lighter duty, he might do well. Is he a north-south, behind the pads runner? Anyone watch enough Lions games to make an assessment?

KB-nice.

Since this draft is very deep in the RB dept, Detroit must feel like they can draft a guy in the mid-rounds, pay him 1/3 of what Jones was due to make and probably get similar production.

I actually woulnd't be shocked if the Eagles take a RB in the mid-rounds. Buck is due for an injury, Hunt didn't impress anyone last year and if Westbrook get banged up, this team would be wrecked.

I was watching the NFL network last night, and the more I listen to Mike Mayock, the more I believe that McFadden is not going to be the best NFL back in this year's draft. He brings up some good points: 1) The dude's legs are SCRAWNY. He has great speed, but his leg's go "dead" on contact--never a good sign. 2) He fumbles---alot. Not to say that an NFL team couldn't work on that, but it is an issue. 3) The off-the-field issues are a concern. He has been in several fights while at Arkansas (I know Seth, remind you of someone?)--never serious law problems, but the dude has 3 kids that we know of right now--that baby-mamma drama is not a good sign for a kid that is only 20 years old.

All that said, I like McFadden. His speed is undeniable--but is he worth a top 5 pick? I don't think so.

I can't see McFadden amounting to the hype. He's an amazing college weapon, but I don't see how he will fit into an NFL offense. He's fast, he can return kicks, he's got good size, he has great hands...

He's probably a slightly bigger, slightly less agile/quick version of Reggie Bush. What we've seen in Bush is a guy who is dangerous, but maybe won't ever have the same impact he had in college and I wonder if McFadden is a similar animal.

I think even with the surgery he just had, Stewart will be the best back in this class.

Our resident Leos fan says the scuttlebut in Mo-Town is that Detroit wants Stewart in round 1.

Love him too. GGB and I were discussing him as a potential "LT2".

I think while he has nice hands they may not be on par with Tomlinsons- but he does remind you of LT in every aspect of his game, no question.

I saw Matt Jones mentioned somewhere too- how the Birds loved him the year he entered the draft and how they missed on him 1x, would love to get a crack at him this go-round???????????

Yes, I think they'll address RB , where I dont know. If a special player is there when they draft in the 2nd, who knows?
If they move Lito s/u for a 2nd rounder, like say the Saints at 10th in the 2nd, I can see them baggin a RB with 1 of those two picks.

Michael Smith of ESPN.com is reporting that free agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

The salary and other terms of the deal have not been reported. The 49ers reportedly don’t view Johnson as a No. 1 receiver but instead expect him to fight for playing time with the other receivers on the roster, including Isaac Bruce, Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill.

Johnson was the Cardinals’ first-round draft pick in 2003, and has spent his entire career with the Cardinals, mostly as the third receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald and Anquon Boldin. Last season, he had 46 receptions for 528 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson has played 77 games in his five-year career and started 39.
