RW gets a contract extension - 5 years, $45 mil, $20 mil signing.

I wonder how T.O. feels now that he's going to be sharing more touches AND he's the 4th highest paid offensive weapon.

According to Cuz, the Eagles were close to landing Kellen Winslow in a trade yesterday, as well.

"Close but no cigar"

That should be the team's motto.

They were only curious to see if his balls were "the size of grapefruits". Certainly not for the red zone.

From Domowitch's article:

"With the emergence of rookie DeSean Jackson and the imminent return of Kevin Curtis, the Birds showed little interest in Williams this time around."

Until Curtis re-injures his nethers because FB had him come back too early from injury.

Just like happened with the run-into-the-ground Bobby Clarke Flyers, I'm done with this team.

Guess I'm a front runner. :-)

However, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. After years of watching FB blow it year after year with maddening play calling, unwillingness to add impact players, etc. etc., there's no point in following the team until he's gone.

They tried to add impact players yesterday. They spent on the best available FA this year, and tried to get the best available WR. They got the best available WR the year before. They went after Burress when he was a free agent. They went after TO when he was available.

My problems with FB are play-calling more than anything else

KB, after all that they are 3-3...last place.

I don't agree with people who say the Eagles don't understand the importance of pass catchers because, as you said, they went after Moss. They went after Owens. They inquired about RW in the off-season. They inquired about Fitzgerald. They've spent a couple higher picks.

However, at some point, you have to get it done.

And I think they have two losses due to playcalling. That Dallas game was out of control, but I think play-calling and injuries have hurt them more than anything else.

They went after Burress when he was a free agent.

I do not believe this happened with any degree of sincerity because he is too tall and skilled to play WR for the Eagles.

Did anyone know that Winslow was even on the block? That was news to me.

I know for a fact this happened. They also loved Roy Williams in the offseason and went after him, but Millen was holding out for 10 first rounders and some first-born children.

They tried to add impact players yesterday.

They didn't do. Try not. Do.... or do not. There is no try.

This franchise has done once (2005) and made it to the Super Bowl, but refuses to do again.

They spent on the best available FA this year, and tried to get the best available WR.

The best available FA was a CB, which they already had plenty of. Just like drafting linemen every single year. Once again, do, do not try.

They got the best available WR the year before.

When Kevin Curtis is the best available, it's probably better to stand pat.

They went after Burress when he was a free agent.

Still no points for trying.

They went after TO when he was available.

Ah, a DO, which resulted in a Super Bowl appearance. See what happens when you do, and don't just try.

My problems with FB are play-calling more than anything else

My issues with FB are far too numerous to list here in one posting.

Next time they can have a WR like that for Brandon Whiting, I'm sure they'll do it

I'm not saying that at all, but people act like they stubbornly refuse to upgrade, when they try all the time. It just pan out all the time. If they're play-calling wasn't retarded, they'd be tied for first

Well, since the playcalling won't change, do you think it would hurt to have more talent executing those plays?

They are leading the league in dropped passes and among the worst teams in the league for red zone efficiency. I can't see how more talent could hurt them in the passing game.

Also, regarding Burress, I don't think they went after him. He is a head case and was signed for a pittance by NY, so if they "went after him", they weren't willing to give him "Kevin Curtis money" to bring him in.

That's like saying the wife tells me to upgrade the TV to a 42" plasma, and the store is asking $999 for it, but I'm only willing to pay $450. Not gonna happen. If I come home and say I tried and tell her the story, she'd laugh in my face.

And if Tony Gonzales was on the field, their play calling wouldn't have mattered because he makes those blocks that stopped Buck at the goal line.

If Roy Williams is on the outside, maybe they are more likely to throw in his direction.

Funny thing is in 2004, their play calling wasn't a problem. Playcalling gets magnified in its importance when inferior pieces are executing that play.

I don't lie about this stuff, but I know they went after Burress. That really did happen. I don't think they felt he was worth the $9 million signing bonus, since he was coming off two years in a row of under 900 yards and had attitude problems. They didn't think the price tag would get that high.

They offered Moss the most of anyone, and he wanted to stay in NE. Not much more they could do. They tried to get Roy Williams, but Millen was being ridiculous. After that, the most available was Fitz, and he wasn't going anywhere

And that's not to say I don't think playcalling is a problem. I think talent can make up for playcalling and since they can't bring Mike MArtz in for the rest of the season, they might as well have added a player who could help them spin their shit into gold.

If they "went after" Burress and didn;t think he was worth the bonus they happily handed over to Kevin Curtis 2 years later, they didn't really go after him, IMO. Wanting a great player for nothing is somethign any team in the NFL can accomplish. Actually signing that player is what matters.

With Williams, if they wanted him so bad a couple months ago, why didn't they want him yesterday?
